Blimey, is this topic "Zombie apocalypse conspiracy theory nuclear bomb sharknado paranoia" in disguise?

I go away for a few weeks, and all "one flew over the cuckoos nest" breaks lose!

Confused
OP posts:
Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 14:41

Far too many bored and spiteful tbh. Perhaps it's AIBU that should be ditched, because of the type of poster it attracts.

Or maybe it's better they are corralled in there.

ArmchairTraveller · 10/11/2015 14:44

Are you feeling better, Stratter?
There were some nasty comments flying around, I was hoping that you'd just open the gin and snigger at the immaturity.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 14:51

Am illing, I think that's probably why they annoyed me. Stupid really, you're right, it was all very immature and meanspirited.

Did make me reevaluate a few posters though. Shame really. The rest I'd already marked down mentally as cunts.

swisscheesetony · 10/11/2015 14:57

oh Fuck 'em, come the ZA we can tell 'em to forage for mushrooms. Wink

gamerchick · 10/11/2015 15:03

Well I can answer the why I would like our own topic on a personal level. There are those who think 'healthy debate' is the whole point of the Internet and no thread would have been left alone because the way of stamping all over a thread until it's shut up can't work in a whole dedicated topic.

I've seen it.. It's like it's choreographed to the last letter time and time again. Argue, report, argue some more, report report report until MN towers get sick and delete the thread.

It's eerie and entertaining all at the same time.

Anyway we're there.. I'm very happy we got our topic so now I can stop talking at my husband about it Grin

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 15:06

Yes, I've seen threads shut down and disappear like that. I think you have to be v v insecure deep down to behave like that.

ISpidersmanYouMeanPirate · 10/11/2015 15:27

Just in case Quint is still reading - there's been several threads recently attacking preppers and our need for a board.

We're not just prepping for 'bad weather'. But for fire, strikes, civil unrest, power cuts, water cuts, financial problems (whether personal or national)....and on and on and on.

We're happy. And I for one am getting lots of good tips

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2015 15:28

"I am feeling a bit sore by your grouchiness bertrand, and it has come as a bit of a shock as I normally enjoy your posts (esp. The feminist board ones)."

I wasn't being grouchy. I only wanted to know why, if all people are prepping for us being snowed in for a week, they are asking about shotguns!

ArmchairTraveller · 10/11/2015 15:35

Oh, sometimes we wander into other realms. Sometimes people theorise how they might defend themselves and their family in a dangerous scenario.
Some people already own shotguns for sporting and vermin and the like

gamerchick · 10/11/2015 15:50

Why does anyone talk about anything?

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2015 16:23

"We get flooded in roughly once a year. When that bad snow came in 2010 we were snowed in for a week.

My DS has type 1 diabetes.

If I don't prep it could have substantially awful consequences."

That's not "prepping". That's just taking sensible precautions in case something that has happened before happens again. I live rurally, and if snow is forecast, I make sure I have supplies in to feed us for a week. That's not "prepping" either. It's shopping.

gamerchick · 10/11/2015 16:29

And yet you're in the preppers topic talking about it.

ArmchairTraveller · 10/11/2015 16:31

So are we having an academic debate on what 'prepping' means as a term?
For most of us it means prerparing, being prepared. Before TSHTF.
But feel free to come and tell us that we are wrong in our definition and our understanding.
Oh. TYou already did.

ArmchairTraveller · 10/11/2015 16:33

I think we've met on the Feminist boards in a past incarnation...Grin

BertrandRussell · 10/11/2015 16:43

Sorry- just thought it was interesting. Couldn't understand why anyone would need a special board to remind them to make sure they had a week's worth of insulin for their diabetic child when snow is forecast, or enough milk and gin to keep you going if the car breaks down. I do those things automatically. So I thought this was a survivalist board and wanted to see what it was like. But it does seem to be a very British type of prepping.Grin Teabags and Prosecco rather than entrenching tools, crossbows and water purifying plants like the Americans!

howtorebuild · 10/11/2015 16:53

Personally I see it as being sensible and reducing your impact on society as much as possible.

gamerchick · 10/11/2015 16:54

Give it time Grin

We want our own board so we don't have to debate and explain ourselves on every single thread with nay sayers. Thassall.

swisscheesetony · 10/11/2015 17:02

Bertrand - indeed you'd think it would be normal. However we've been largely ridiculed. The ocado man will sort it and the government wouldn't let it happen anyway.

I'm hoping to be able to share tips with others and learn new skills.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 17:39

Christ this is getting tedious.

If you've nothing positive to contribute, fuck back off to Style & Beauty, or Yoga, or Religion. Or one of the other totally pointless boards.

jeanswithatwist · 10/11/2015 18:20

bert you are really annoying, go away. you don't get it. i don't care that you don't get it. you are only here to talk down to us. noone is interested in what you have to say as you are offering nothing but patronising comments.

SconeForAStroll · 10/11/2015 19:28

It's about being prepared before the forecast. It's about being ready, just in case.

Since DS was diagnosed when he nearly fucking died I have struggled terribly with anxiety. It's not a pleasant way to live, knowing that if I make a mistake it could be fatal. Worrying every morning about whether he will wake up, because a hypo over night could be fatal.

Please. Please stop and think about it when you are blithely telling people they are over-reacting. I can't bear to think about a proper global pandemic, I know what the result would be.

But the smaller stuff, I can wrest some control over. I can have enough water and food. Enough medicine. I can learn some helpful skills.

I can talk to people who don't mock and maybe even understand.

So please. Please. Please. Let us be.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 19:39

((((Scone))))

It's said that you can't 'get it' unless you're in a similar situation; well they could at least either try or simply piss off. Two weeks ago I was blithely unaware, now I know damn well that without my asthma meds I will die.

For those of you scoffering at this board, or saying it's unnecessary, unneeded, and stupid. Please, stop and think that although you don't think you need it, others obviously do. Just be grateful that you are healthy enough to not have to think ahead, that you live somewhere that is insulated from outside problems, that you already have all you need.

Be grateful. And leave the rest of us be.

cozietoesie · 10/11/2015 19:52

Stratter5

Just ignore anyone who is making unkind comments. That's all you need to do - ignore them.

Stratter5 · 10/11/2015 20:09

I know, I try. It's my nature to try to make people understand something they don't. I shall do my best to ignore.

Indole · 10/11/2015 21:21

(((Scone and Stratters)))

I too will die without my meds. Severe asthma, urticaria and seborrheic dermatitis here. So not only will I be dead, I'll also be bald and itchy and all my skin will look like it's about to fall off. So I will keep my stocks of medicines and all the other stuff I need to survive anything bad happening and I will educate my family in how to help me because I'm selfish and I want to live.

Mind, when I am bald, scabby and wheezing like a bastard, I hope I can convince everyone on the outside that I'm actually a zombie and the ZA is really here.
