How do I cope??
Have googled but I can't find comparable stories. All others involve babies twice the weight.
Am struggling to be sure I am doing the right thing putting my baby boy through all this.
He has grade 4 IVH & grade 2 so have no idea of quality of life at the end of all this.
Having said that he has fought for 10 days so far. The other parents in NICU have heavier babies and not the bleeds so feel like their problems are trivial compared to my baby boys.
I feel very weepy even though I am trying to put a brave face on.
How much more can my baby boy take? I can't hold him and I just want to tell him it will be ok but I don't know that it will.

How was the head scan?

Hope all is well
X

Supershiv1 · 20/07/2013 00:29

Phew! Not had chance to draw breath between cuddles, winding, nappy changes and poking my nipple in Oliver's face (only non nutritive exploration allowed - he has to save his calories for growth and breathing).
Head scan - ventricular index still enlarged but no massive increases disproportionate to growth - yay. If I'm honest I know that means that on top of the brain bleeds he may have more problems when older but don't care at this moment in time. ...........because. .........we got moved to HDU!!!
Next steps.......time off cpap.
Go Ollibobs go!

CelticPromise · 20/07/2013 07:57

Ah that is great news. How are you managing expressing and stuff? Is there good support in the unit?

Happy 100 days Oliver. My boy got a card from the nurses at 100 days I think Smile

Supershiv1 · 20/07/2013 09:01

Expressing - I use the hospital pump. Have slowed down since the early days as I have had to start using the catering freezers!

De-lurking finally to say YAY! for Oliver. He is doing so well.

Keep up the good work!

CelticPromise · 20/07/2013 17:18

Ha I remember that, they asked me to keep mine at home in the end. Am now an expressing/bf supporter on my local unit, maybe there's someone who does similar on yours? Long term expressing is hard. Sounds like you're doing a great job Smile

What was that about chewing up the rulebook and spitting it out? Three cheers for young Oliver. GrinGrinGrin
