How do I cope??
Have googled but I can't find comparable stories. All others involve babies twice the weight.
Am struggling to be sure I am doing the right thing putting my baby boy through all this.
He has grade 4 IVH & grade 2 so have no idea of quality of life at the end of all this.
Having said that he has fought for 10 days so far. The other parents in NICU have heavier babies and not the bleeds so feel like their problems are trivial compared to my baby boys.
I feel very weepy even though I am trying to put a brave face on.
How much more can my baby boy take? I can't hold him and I just want to tell him it will be ok but I don't know that it will.

Oh brilliant news Grin well done Oliver!!

Supershiv1 · 05/07/2013 23:58

Last Friday I thought I would loose my baby boy.
A week later he is on cpap and hasn't had a brady since coming off the ventilator.
Still not all plain sailing as his broviac line is leaking and they're trying to get a surgeon from Alder hey to come over tomorrow to take it out.
Despite everything I held Oliver today and he went 'rooting' for my nipple, gave a few licks and tried to suckle.
This is a massive milestone for a little man who makes mummy very proud. X

Such good news. At my nct class I heard of a boy born at 24 weeks. Like Oliver he had a bad first few weeks. He's 7 now and thriving. X

Supershiv1 · 08/07/2013 11:20

Wonderful wonderful news! Grin Oliver your a lil superstar!
I bet 3lbs seems huge Grin at over 6 1/2 months Alex still isn't 10lbs but he seems to enormous compared to what he was so I forget how small he is. X

Go, Oliver, go! And enjoy lots of kisses from Mummy and Daddy

That's great news :)
One of my DS's best friends was extremely premature, he's 8 now and is doing so well - and is a lovely lad.
So pleased to hear good news of your Oliver.
