Abortion at 12 weeks what to expect

I have had 4 miscarriages 1 live birth who is now 2, I don't want anymore but the pill had failed, so abortion is the only route to go down, I'm 11 weeks and only reason it's taken this long is I had a big bleed few weeks ago and thought I had miscarriaged, can you tell me your experiences of the surgery I'm planning on being awake

@Babyghirl yes I was sedated (not under, could hear the conversation around me but I was very very relaxed; mild sedation). Yes with suction. I remember them discussing something getting stuck but eventually got resolved (I didn’t feel a thing).

Hiya OP, last year I had a surgical at 11+4 but I was asleep. The whole process for me was smooth and the staff throughout were immensely supportive and just brilliant. I can't fault the fantastic service and care they provide. I'm sure you will have the same experience where you go. My procedure went well. I put the tablets under my tongue 1 hour prior to the surgery and I had no cramping or bleeding with them. The surgery was over in 10-20 minutes from what I can remember and I had a good recovery with just what felt like a normal period afterwards. I wish you the best with everything 🫂

Thank you very much for your reply of your experience, I just want it over with, I'm hoping they will pop the coil in after but I don't know if the will until I stop bleeding.

I also had a coil fitted after mine, so I don't see why they wouldn't fit one for you too 😊

Sorry to jump in.
I had a surgical termination on Wednesday as I’m not allowed any hormones due to reoccurring DVT’s hence ending up pregnant in the first place.
I went in at 11am. Afternoon surgery lists started at 1pm. I had to be nil by mouth etc.
The staff were all lovely. One popped a tablet up inside to open my cervix to make things easier for the removal.
about an hour later so just after 1pm I went down. They put the copper coil in at the same time. I was back in the bay/small ward and awake and eating by 2.30pm, & I was home before 5pm. They said it was minimum 2 hours from recovery - home if everything went straight forwards, which it was other than waking up heaving my guts up and anesthetist putting strong anti sickness via cannula.
I’ve had some pretty bad cramps but bleeding is minimal so far (and I am on blood thinners so was prepared for it to be really bad)
im sure everything will be fine. Try not to worry, it’s a fairly simple and quick procedure with very knowledgeable staff ☺️

Thank you very much, I have my phone consultation tomorrow, they told me they will have me sorted this week, I thought I had a miscarriages a few weeks ago that why it's taken me so long, just can't wait till it's over.

@Babyghirl We’ll all be thinking of you, and please let us know (if only you want to) future updates. At the moment it’ll be all you can focus on. Once it is over, you can move on and concentrate on the wonderful family you have.

How long did it take from start to finish if u don't mind me asking.

They give the first pill 24 hrs before the second pill. After taking the second pill it took around 6 hours

Well I'm booked in for Friday, have to go on Thursday to take a tablet to soften my cervix, on Friday will go they will give me painkillers properly strong ones to somewhat make me out of it and have the suction. I'm somewhat abit nervous but 💯 know this is the right decision for me.

Sorry was meant to come on and update, all went as well as expected, it was the right choice for me, but still somewhat feel abit sad but I know my mental health wouldn't cope with another one, I can now try to make peace with my decision, but absolutely no pain during it at all and all the girls where lovely, thank you for thinking of me xx

Hi OP, I’m glad it went as ok as these things can and I hope your recovery is smooth. There’s no straight forward way of feeling, we can know it’s the right thing and simultaneously be sad. Do what you need to do to get through the emotions and give yourself lots of compassion

thinking of you ❤️
