Medical Abortion at 7 Weeks

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me honestly what their experience of a medical abortion was like? I've been reading online (worrying myself into a near panic attack) and they seem to range from mild period pain to the most agonising pain ever and I'm petrified. I'm roughly 7weeks and am due to take the 1st tablet tomorrow at the doctor's, then the other 2 around 12pm Saturday.

Have been prescribed 15g Codipar and Difene, have Motilium, a hot water bottle, maternity pads & light food/drinks in and my fiancé will be here for support.

Is there anything else I need or should know? How bad is the pain? I have a very low tolerance and am absolutely freaking out. Any advice would be so helpful x

Been up for toilet, saw a little blood but nothing much and I've been out for a vape. These meds making me feel bit urgh though, my temperature is up and down and I feel a bit woozy. Im hoping bleeding starts properly soon or it'll be another set of pills and that scares me, is that common to need more? x

@Heathernoll

It just depends on your body I guess. But get back in bed and put something on the TV or read. I remember mines took a good few hours to kick in with the bleeding. You're temperature will go up and down...you probably feel like you're heating up just like when you're on your period. Eat something and drink a lot of water if you feel a bit dizzy

Hey. I'm home. My experience was a bit urgh but only because of staff at hospital. Ill give a low down on what I went through.

I took 2nd part (vaginally) and stayed on bed for an hour. I had a lot of pain medication before so in all honesty I had like no pain. I felt intense cramping/like my uterus moving for about 30 mins but it was not painful.

I started to bleed like 2/3 hours after but only when going to toilet.

Didn't feel any pain, odd cramp like feeling but that's it.

Then had 2nd round of tablets and again felt nothing.

Really not lost a lot of blood, and pains not an issue.

I did get really hot and disoriented which made me panic but apparently 2nd lot of meds make you feel like that.

If this is it, then yeah I have had it easy. I was only 4/5 weeks and I have no idea of I've passed it, nurse said it wouldn't be recognisable. I've seen a few lil clots but so small.

Let's hope in 3 weeks it's a negative test.

How's your 2nd part going?

AnxiousAndScared · 21/01/2023 14:01

@Heathernoll I'm so glad to hear you're home and doing okay (as well as can be expected in the circumstances anyway) x Thank you so much for letting me know how you got on, it's so reassuring talking to someone who's just experienced this ...after taking the 2 tabs orally (they only do 2 in ireland) a few mins ago, have to let them dissolve now and really hoping that it will be okay. Took 2 codipar and 1 difene about half an hour ago so fingers crossed this will help. Just want to be on the other side of it now. How are you feeling now??x

Aww you'll be fine I promise x drink plenty of water it helps flush it out.

I'm okay was exhausted yesterday so sleep was so needed. I just went out to shop, still feeling cramps but I guess uterus cleans itself out over next 2 weeks. Keeping topped up with pain relief but very little pain.

Here if you need me!

AnxiousAndScared · 21/01/2023 15:04

Thank you so much❤ Nothing so far but only a half an hour in so very early days! Yeah drinking loads of water and have the hot water bottle on the go already, now just have to wait and see really...

Of course, can only imagine how wrecked you must be. Glad you're not in pain, hope your recovery keeps going well!

Thank you again, I'm sure I'll be in need of a handhold as it progresses!

Yeah I understand how you feel. Looking back I see how reading bad stories made me so anxious going into it but it's normal to fear the unknown.
Yeah I'll keep checking back x

Heathernoll · 21/01/2023 21:00

Hey hope it's going okay.

I'm bleeding a bit more than yesterday (day after), which is making me feel a bit more relieved - so basically feels like a proper period now. I'm still crampy but feeling good!

Hope not too much pain and you're comfortable x

AnxiousAndScared · 22/01/2023 11:54

@Heathernoll Hey, it's going fine thanks - only had a small amount of bleeding/tiny clotting when going to the loo so far, rang the myoptions helpline to speak to a nurse as I was worried it wasn't working but she said it can be different for everyone! Especially since it's early on in gestation. No pain bar some very mild cramping/backache yesterday evening and none today so far. Slept like a log last night!!

It sounds like we had similar experiences, hoping the heavier bleeding kicks in before I'm back to work Tuesday. Really glad you're comfortable and haven't had too rough a time with it!! Just so relieved it hasn't been the horror show that so many people have😬 Will keep checking back in to see how you're getting on!x

Hey. I'm so glad you're doing alright. You'll probably find it picks up the days after so don't worry too much.

All the best x
