Needing advice about my medical abortion

Really needing some advice about my medical abortion!

I recently found out I was pregnant but I knew in my current circumstances I could not go ahead with the pregnancy. I took my first tablet Monday of which I would’ve been 7+3 weeks pregnant then I had to put 4 tablets up there and take 2 orally the following day.

I’ve been bleeding not moderately with a couple of tiny clots but it’s slowed right down and I’m worried I’ve not passed the pregnancy. It’s bright blood but more of a mucus type of bleeding. I’ve rang the advice line which the woman said to run up and down the stairs, do squats and star jumps to see if that gets things moving but nothings changed. I didn’t know this would be a long process.

I haven't had a medical abortion, but i have had medical management of a miscarriage. I think the treatment is relatively similar. I would call the clinic back.

When i passed the sac it was very obvious, obviously its different for everyone but i think you need checking.

Be kind to yourself Smile

I rang them this morning they told me to try running up the stair etc and if nothing happens then go on with life as normal. I just feel so alone and confused with it all. It was hard enough making the decision now im stuck with the worry.

I’m really sorry you’re going through such uncertainty. I had a medical abortion at 6+something weeks (sorry, a few years ago so I forget exactly) and I had what I would consider heavy period like bleeding for 4 days. I definitely didn’t feel anything “pass” like the previous poster did for her medical management of miscarriage, but our bodies are all different. I was sure it hadn’t worked as it was supposed to but it had. Can you contact your local clinic directly? That’s what I did and they agreed to scan me which showed the pregnancy had passed. I’m not medically trained but running around doing star jumps sounds like the last thing you should be doing. Try to rest and take it as easy as you can. Wishing you all the best xx

I don't mean to scare monger OP but if you're unsure if the pregnancy has passed please go and get checked out.

I had a medical abortion around 3 years ago, had moderate bleeding and didn't think any more of it after a few days assuming it had all passed. A month later I ended up with severe bleeding and passing huge clots, one was 'stuck' inside and my body kept bleeding on an attempt to flush everything out. Not a nice experience and should never have happened if the hospital had agreed to check everything after.

Also.. be kind to yourself, instead of star jumps and running up and down stairs I say lay in bed with some chocolate and a movie

Thankyou im just so confused. When the nurse said to run around etc I was just like what on earth I understand it could help move things along but it just seemed so random. I am actively bleeding but only upon like going for a wee. The ward isn't open now until 8am next Tuesday so I'm just stuck thinking the worst situation I just wish it was over x

Op you should have a special test to take? I can't remember if it's 2 weeks or 4 weeks after, I suspect maybe 4 weeks as I had to take mine close to Christmas and it was early December I had the procedure.

Sending hugs to you tho, ignore the ridiculous advice about running up and down stairs. Be kind to yourself and try and just get on as best you can.

Pm me if you'd like to talk Thanks

Oh that sounds so scary I'm so sorry you experienced that. I rang the clinic today who said about doing star jumps etc then said if nothing happens to go on as normal. They aren't open now until next Tuesday so I just feel so alone. I just have a gut feeling I've not passed anything it's so stressful and sad I just want the process to be over with xx

They've gave me a pregnant test to do on the 20th April and they said only to ring if it comes out as a positive result x

Hey haven’t they given you an out of yours number to contact? Surely if there’s something you’re worried about there should be a way to contact someone without having to wait until Tuesday? I’d try and look into that so that you’re not sat in limbo as that’s only going to make you worry more. I hope like someone above mentioned everything is passing out and maybe you just don’t have a big clot to pass x

Worriesome · 31/03/2021 21:38

Sorry out of hours

They've given me another number for a different ward but she said only to ring in an emergency like excessive bleeding etc so I don't think they will be able to help me. I'm thinking of maybe contacting a private clinic over the next few days if nothing has changed and hopefully they might be able to help it's just such a rubbish scenario to be in with no extra advice. Thankyou for replying tho it's nice to be able to talk to others about it x

@HollW - why don’t you give that number a call and just get some reassurance. Tuesday is a long way away and I don’t want you sitting in worry. Like you say it’s a hard enough decision to make without having to worry if the procedure has worked as it’s meant to x

Hi @HollW , I'm in a very similar position, I inserted the 4 tablets yesterday and then took the additional 2 tablets. I haven't had a lot of bleeding, nowhere near as heavy as I imagined. Which service did you use, I used MSI and there's a 24/7 aftercare helpline if you need questions answering etc. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat, it seems like we are going through a similar experience xxx

Hey I went through my local hospital I've rang them several times to of which they told me to run up and down the stairs etc then to get on with life as Normal if nothing happens so I give up with them. I was thinking of ring bpas to explain my situation and see if they can offer any advice. Aw bless you it's so confusing isn't it they told me to expect really heavy bleeding and clotting when I pass the pregnancy but I've had nothing but light/moderate bleeding, it's more like mucus x

I had medical management of miscarriage and only had a few hours of light to moderate bleeding. No real pain.

Nothing like I was expecting but it was all fine.

I think it's just different for everyone

HollW · 02/04/2021 13:21

Hey everyone just an update. I've been cramping today in my stomach/back and my bleeding has picked up abit with some little tiny clots. Hopefully it'll all be over soon just feel so lost with myself it's been one of the hardest things I've had to do xx

OP posts:
skeggycaggy · 02/04/2021 13:24

I had a medical abortion at about 7 weeks & very little bleeding, general cramps & discomfort. Less bleeding than an ordinary period. No obvious sac. But it was all fine.

Also had a miscarriage about the same gestation with a similar experience of not much actually coming away, but it was a complete miscarriage.

Hello HollW - just wanted to come on to say that I had a medical abortion and the bleeding started slowly then on the second day, came all in a rush including blood clots, plus a large clot I assume was the sac. Awful for you as I imagine you just want to relax but going for a walk did help me. It was all over quite fast after the heavy bleed and I was back at work etc really quick. I felt relieved and happy once it was over as I knew it was right for me but still mourned the situation. I hope you’ll be alright and sending you good wishes and solidarity - lots and lots of women have been where you are now but it’s not discussed that much so I often come on this board as I could have done with it myself a few years ago. It’s hard. But you have done a brave thing.

Thankyou so much for your kind reply! Honestly I've been so down and beaten myself up about it but I know it was the best decision for my current situation. I've been bleeding light-moderately with no clots since Tuesday when I took the second lot of tablets but today it's picked up a little with some tiny clots so I think it could be today that things start to happen. It's just such an confusing time when you get told to expect it to be really heavy with clots and you don't end up in the same boat. I've come on here as I can't find anything about my situation and I don't know anyone that's been through similar it's such a good platform for advice and support Smilexx

Sorry for you loss with your miscarriage. Yes I've finally figured that it doesn't have to be this heavy bleeding they tell you about. I actually bleed more when I'm on my period than I have the last few days it's crazy how our bodies work differently! Thankyou for your reply xx
