Terrified of medical abortion

Hello.

I accidentally got pregnant and I am n out in a position to have another child. I decided to go with medical abortion as access to surgical is very much so limited to due Covid.

I am due to take first pill today and I’m extremely scared.

I am worried about side effects like vomiting etc but also about serious side defects like toxic shock syndrome and sepsis.

I am scared of the unknown and pain...

I am worried I’ll die and leave my two girls without a mother.

Can someone cheer me up?thank you

Hi, I know how your feeling as I was in the exact same position 4 weeks ago!! I had googled everything and had set myself up that i was going to end up really ill or worse but the statistics for this to happen are soooo low it’s unlikely to happen. The only side effect I had was bad cramping and chills but they left almost after the pregnancy passed. Try not to worry (I know it’s easier said than done) but you will be fine. Any concerns or worries at all just call the helplines asap or if you can’t get through just go to a&e but you will probably think after the worry was for nothing as I honestly didn’t think it was as bad as what I had read and I reading most of the threads on here they think the same aswell. Thinking about u xx

Thank you sunnydays3. Your message is really kind and very reassuring .I have already taken first tablet today and I will take Misoprostol tomorrow. I am trying to be positive but this waiting game makes me even more anxious. I am very grateful for your reply. Wishing you all the best. Xxx

You will be absolutely fine. It's normal to be so anxious. You be kind to yourself okay? Lots of cups of tea and eat some good food. Big hug ❤️

Hi Op. just offering you a hand hold. I took the oral pill yesterday and had no symptoms other than occasional nausea but I think that was more pregnancy symptoms still. Just taken the second lot of vaginal tablets and nothing has happened...

SunnyDays3 · 19/06/2020 23:02

@changedmynam3 hey hope it goes well for you! When I took the tablets the cramping started about 2 hours later with very light bleeding but by 4-5 hours in then the pregnancy passed. So get a hot water bottle and watch tv and by the morning the worst should be over x

littleteapot77 · 19/06/2020 23:02

Hi, I’m in literally exactly the same position as you so I felt I had to make an account and comment. Took the first pill around 1pm today (Friday), plan on taking the second tomorrow late afternoon/early evening. I am back at work on Monday so I’m really hoping I will be ok by then as I had a day off this week on account of morning sickness and don’t want people at work to start to wonder. I’ve read about a million negative experiences online so I’m starting to freak out but I’ve found that here it seems to be less terrifying.
We can do this! 💪

SunnyDays3 · 19/06/2020 23:04

@Flexi872112 yes the waiting is the worst but once it’s over with you will honestly feel so relieved. Make sure you take your pain relief as that will help and a hot water bottle. Will be thinking about u tomoro keep us updated how u get on xx

changedmynam3 · 19/06/2020 23:17

Thanks so much @SunnyDays3

This is just my worst luck ever. Condom split and morning after pill failed. This has never happened to me before and I recently had a baby (in January) so it was just really bad timing. Also took me 3 years to conceive our first baby and I suffered miscarriages so it just feels so wrong terminating a potentially healthy pregnancy. It will be my luck that these pills don't work too!

Will update you tomorrow. Good night x

inmyshedsmoking2000 · 19/06/2020 23:19

I had one. It was fine. No problems at all. Issues are rare x

SunnyDays3 · 20/06/2020 08:44

@changedmynam3 don’t worry I never thought I’d find myself in that position either I felt bad too but knew it was the right decision. Good luck x

changedmynam3 · 20/06/2020 09:41

It worked! Mild cramping started at midnight and by 1am I was passing clots which I managed to flush without seeing. I only needed to take one dose of ibuprofen and then one dose of co-codomol. I'm not going to lie there was a lot of blood and I did feel dizzy at one point. Spent my night between the bed and laying on the bathroom floor with towels and pillows. I think I've passed everything now but still bleeding a bit but no pain now. The pain wasn't half as bad as I was expecting it to be. I felt pain the most when blood or a clot was about to come out of me and then once it was out there was no pain again. It wasn't a nice experience but nowhere near as bad as I was experiencing and the worst was over in 5-6 hours.

changedmynam3 · 20/06/2020 09:43

I should add that for me the pain was more the feeling or pressure than pain!

changedmynam3 · 20/06/2020 09:44

*nowhere near as bad as I was expecting (typos due to lack of sleep)

missrks · 20/06/2020 11:42

Hope you're all okay. The dizziness was probably from the codine. I've been through it too so if anyone needs a hand hold I'll be here all day x

Flexi872112 · 20/06/2020 12:33

Thank you ladies. It’s nice to hear your stories. I have been very nauseous throughout the night after taking first tablet. I am going to take Misoprostol today at 5pm. I feel very scared and I want this to be over with :(

@Flexi872112 you will be okay. Nearly there. Take pain killers, have a hot water bottle, snuggle up in bed with something to watch and some water xxx

changedmynam3 · 20/06/2020 15:34

@Flexi872112 honestly you will be fine. Just make sure you have huge pads like the really thick ones. I didn't and just had normal ones and had doubled them up but it didn't work very well! Let us know how you get on.

Flexi872112 · 20/06/2020 21:20

Hello Ladies.

I had taken second lot of tablets today at 5 PM (Private message). I started to bleed 1.5 hours later however the bleeding is milder than a period and there are no clots. Is this normal? Shall I take two additional tablets to keep it going?

OP posts:
missrks · 20/06/2020 23:23

Are you supposed to take the other 2? Bleeding can be really mild. Don't worry!

Flexi872112 · 21/06/2020 08:37

I called Marie Stopes and they told me not to take the other 2. I guess I won’t know if it worked until I do pregnancy test. I expected more bleeding than during my period but it’s actually less.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to sum up my experience with medical abortion.
From my previous posts you can obviously tell that I was terrified. I have now been through it and overall I can say that it is not to be scared off. The only side effect that I had was nausea following taking first tablet.

I had taken 2 cocodamols and 2 ibuprofens before I took Misoprostol and I had no pain or I did not feel any cramps. My bleeding was very mild... less than my period and I am little bit concerned about that. Because everyone is different it is hard to tell if it’s worked. I’ll do pregnancy test in few weeks and I’ll let you know. Wishing you all the best.

@Flexi872112 weird that they told you not to take the other 2 tablets? I went with BPAS and they told me to take the 4 tablets and then the further 2 after 4 hours of taking the first lot. I honestly don't think much would have happened if I hadn't taken the second lot! It's not fair that's there is conflicting advice from two different organisations!

Flexi872112 · 21/06/2020 11:30

@changedmynam3 at Marie stopes they say to take 4 tablets and further 2 after 3 hours but ONLY if you have not started bleeding which I have after 1.5 hours but very mildly. I called them yesterday and explained the situation and asked if I should take further two but they said no. Lady on the phone was very rude and said to me”what do you want me to do”?? They are meant to be supportive and sympathetic...

I'm glad I found this thread (but sorry you are in this position). I'm 11+2 weeks and have a surgical abortion booked for tomorrow. I'm supposed to take the oral tablet in about 10mins (24hrs before appointment) and can find very little information on what happens after mifepristone. Really scared.

changedmynam3 · 21/06/2020 11:49

@Flexi872112 I've heard they are rude at MS! My friend used them last year and they were treating her like she was a stupid teenage girl! She's mid 30s! BPAS were so lovely! I really hope it's worked for you.

@Willowdaisyholly good luck with your surgery. Surgery is the best option! I wish I could have had it! The oral tablet softens the cervix. You can feel a bit sick from it but no other major side effects I don't think x
