I am not have a good week, diabetes wise. I've not gone to high, but I swear I am having a hypo at least once a day! Really hard to concentrate at work when your brain starts going fuzzy!

My before lunch today was 3.0!! No wonder I felt poorly!

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 16:26

I'm having a rubbish day its so depressing some times.. I've had highs all day since lunch.. and I cant get them to shift.

:S Tee will the occasional day have an affect on my Foeatal scan tommorow..

I'm so scared.... I've had loads of hypos as well.. but apparently they are normal and can not really harm the baby - but its best avoided...

just dont understand why Its been so high.. havent even eaten anything odd?!?

Tee2072 · 15/12/2008 18:16

sweetbroody what will harm your baby is weeks and weeks and weeks of untreated highs. At some point in your pregnancy you will become more insulin resistant. If the highs persist, call your diabetes team about increasing your insulin or insulin ratio, depending on how you do it!

Also, how high is high?

And hypos aren't dangerous to the baby. They are just annoying! I had one Saturday in the middle of the high street!

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 18:23

11.4 was my highest today... its just so frustrating especially when i have generally quite good sugars.. Most of my hypos are overnight so I have to be so careful... those are frustrating because I lose sleep trying to keep them under control..

SweetBROODY · 15/12/2008 18:25

My consultant was saying there isnt enough reserach to know how hypos affect the baby the best you can do is try for optimum control.. its just doubly heard isnt it - along with the normal symptoms!

Tee2072 · 15/12/2008 18:38

I think with a number that high, I'd be on the phone to my diabetes team. That's pretty high!

SweetBROODY · 16/12/2008 11:01

I eventually got it under control. They generally dont say anything... Just to increase my lunchtime dose for the next day - its just not helpful if you see what I mean. Just fed up with the whole thing at the moment.. I have the Foeatal heart scan later today I just hope that goes well.. thats the big worrying one for me

OblomovOYeFaithful · 30/12/2008 09:47

Just found this thread.
If it is still continuing, I will come back.

SweetBROODY · 30/12/2008 12:12

Your welcome Faithful...

How pregnant are you?

OblomovOYeFaithful · 30/12/2008 13:32

Ds2 is 2 months. I was just searching. I was kind of hoping that I could 'give something back' as it were.
Maybe I can be of assistance to one of you.
I have type 1, for over 30 years. I am on a pump. For both my pregnancies.

SweetBROODY · 01/01/2009 23:25

Thats so kind of you - how did you find it?

are your children well?
I think that is my main concern especially with all the information out there telling you of the dangers...

OblomovOYeFaithful · 02/01/2009 07:54

Both boys are fine.
They were both born at good weight, not too large. And neither show any health problems.
I did work really hard at my diabetes during pregnancy though. I am a bit slack at other times
Still had highs and hypo's though. But 'battled' on through.

How are you all doing ?

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 08:06

Hi faithful always good to hear from the voice of experience!

I'm doing fine so far. Doctors are really impressed with my control. I've one high number this past week, even with Christmas in there, and my A1C was 5.8! Go me!

SweetBROODY · 02/01/2009 12:24

Faithful thats wonderful about your kids - you should be proud..

My control is pretty good to my last A1c was 5.6 It was 5.8 at conception so they are happy with me.. Tee I think we're doing quite well.. although Consultant did say that A1C's arent considered the best judge of control any more because you average out your highs if you have a lot of hypos.

My hypos are better controlled now - I try to eat something bedtime and I am not getting that many hypers..

Still havent put much weight on though for 19 weeks I think I have only put on about 3/4 pounds...

I think 14 pounds is normal for this stage so this is a little worrying..

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 12:53

Actually Sweetbroody I've read that a lot of women put on no pounds their first trimester and then it starts coming on at a pound a week, so I think you are doing just fine!

I've only gained about 5 pounds myself, I'm at 15 + 3. When I had my booking in just before Christmas, the Midwife was very happy with where my weight was.

SweetBROODY · 02/01/2009 14:22

Its a real relief to see mums that are NOT putting on weight - it sounds like alot of them are.. TBH i've even been sleeping on tummy till now.. and only just finding it uncomfortable.

Tee will you have a baby heart scan as well?

How ar eyou feeling now? Its really nice to have someone like you around.. you know someone in the same boat.

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 15:32

I don't know sweetbroody about the heart scan. Nothing has been said to me about it yet.

I am feeling fairly well. Just some back ache and some round ligament pain. I knew I would have some ligament issues, since I have bad joints to begin with! I see my rhumatoidologist next week and we'll see if she wants to refer me to physio or anything.

How about yourself? Feeling okay?

SweetBROODY · 02/01/2009 16:34

I'm feeling better then I was.. a bit hungrier.. which means more insulin but all in all its ok for almost 5 months..

Not much of a bump yet - which can be frustrating.. just no chance of getting a seat on the train! but its ok.. getting there..

Luckily theres no sweet cravings..

Are you on Metformin still?

I always find its worse when I am vomiting - then my sugars realy drop!

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 16:52

You must be thinking of someone else, I've never been on Metforim. My endo doesn't like it for his 'mums' as he calls us. I've been using insulin since about my 8th week.

SweetBROODY · 02/01/2009 17:27

Oh ok - has he said why?

I started on Insulin when we were trying to Conceive.. my GP is strict like that...

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 17:38

He just doesn't think its as safe or effective as insulin for mums. And considering with insulin my A1C has gone down to 5.8 and haven't had more than one high a week, I'd say he's right!

SweetBROODY · 02/01/2009 17:58

yeah I do wonder - especially as taking both does give me a lot of Hypos...

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 18:26

I really wouldn't think both would be necessary, but I am hardly a doctor!

AllyAlly · 03/01/2009 21:14

Hi everyone
I have had type 1 for over 25 years and have a very healthy little boy. I just thought I would share my pregnancy & what I know.
Throughout my pregnancy my endo asked me to aim for fastings
