Varicose veins in private area!!!

Has anyone suffered from this?

I seem to be really swelling up and getting uncomfortable now, it was all on the right side and very swollen now it appears to have spread to the left!

This is one of the joys of pregnancy that no one tells you about beforehand! Buy I can reassure you they do not effect how you give birth and they will disappear after the birth.

I had heard they go away afterwards, was not too worried about it afew weeks ago but today they have caused me havic! Think I have spent last 2 days walking abit and standing and maybe its not done any good!!! They are uncomfortable!

yes standing around isn't good for varicose veins.

I don't really have any solution for them though, apart from sitting!

oooh - poor you

I had these. I used to sit on a bag of frozen peas wrapped up on a tea towel - that helped.

Also, Aloe Vera gel - leave it in the fridge and put it on a big fat sanitary towel and pop that in your knicks.

Sit down and put your feet up

They will disappear when you have the baby but until then you have my sympathy and empathy (and no-one told me about them beforehand either!)

Sitting sounds good difficult with a 2.5 yr old but maybe afew DVDS will keep her happy tomorrow!

Tommy I had some of those cool gel pads after DD1 due to 3rd degree tear, they were ones you kept in freezer, just thinking if you used frozen peas then maybe the gel pads may work? (they are in a box at the back of the shed at present due to DH converting loft!!!)
Will def get some Aloe Vera Gel, is that sold at health shops, boots etc??

i've got this, so my sympathies.

the cold peas definitely helped and try and rest as much as possible. i know - crazy with a toddler. i'm in the same boat.

I had the gel pads too but I thought the peas were better TBH. I got a Value pack of sweetcorn and used that every evening cos I knew I wouldn't ever eat it

Aloe Vera gel should be in chemists or health food shops - my friend gave me some - you only need a small pot.

Dh going to search for my gel pads today otherwise will be the frozen veg!!! We have some cheap peas in the freezer that are not that nice so will try them tonight!!!!!

I had this, no advice really, sit down & feet up as often as possible! Also, and this isn't meant to alarm you, but make sure you tell the midwives when you're in labour that you have these. Unfortunately, after I delivered, mine ruptured (albeit an hour or so afterwards and after being stitched twice due to alot of bleeding!)and I had to have emergency surgery and a blood tranfusion! My community midwife told me that if I'd delivered at home, I wouldn't have made it . However, it IS VERY RARE just make sure you inform the staff!

watsthestory ohh, the same as me then, its not nice is it! Just have 11 more weeks to go and that seems along time with a swollen area!!!!!

poppy90 ouch, I did not think they ruptured!!!! Thanks though, that us good advice. My community MW knows but will inform them in hosp. Would it still go after a c-sect as if my placenta has not moved I may have to have one of these!!!

warthog Feel bit better today, have rested abit more but its just uncomfortable as my back hurts too so when trying to ease one thing the other aches!!!! Ohh two weeks to go then, thats exciting and hopefully all will be fine down there once baby arrives. Do you know what your having?

watsthestory Did you have c-sect because of previous tear? You dont have to answer that but just curious as I keep changing my mind. Obviously if placenta in way I wont have a choice but otherwise I need to make a decision. Scared about c-sect as scaring and longer recovery rate but then natural could lead to incontinance probs (dont have any now) or more tears or just another very long labour!!!! Really dont know what to do!!!

jenwa - I am having a c-section after 3rd degree tear, I am also suffering from VVs in my privates, just ghastly!!! Didn't have them with DD1 so this is rather a nasty shock!

Too embarrassed to even tell DH... [blush}

Minniethemoocher I was shocked and I just showed mine to DH as was not at all sure what had happened!!! I thought best tell him before he saw it and wondered what the hell had happened (not that he has seen much of it recently!!)
How far pregnant are you? I just cant decide on c-sect or not. I want someone to just tell me what I should do so I dont have a choice as I am confussed!!!!

watsthestory - oh no, thats not good, luckily I recovered well afterwards, not too much discomfort and no incontinence but who knows what will happen 2nd time around. I do remember reading on here someone who had had a stoma bag after a awful tear. I do believe c-sect is best option but am also bit scared of that too!

I am 27 weeks so I am stuck with my VVVs for a while yet....

watsthestory - sounds like your section was a very postive experience, compared to a vaginal birth.
