Has anyone suffered from this?

I seem to be really swelling up and getting uncomfortable now, it was all on the right side and very swollen now it appears to have spread to the left!

I am counting the days until the birth! Can anyone tell me, do the go soon after the baby is born? A couple of hours/days/weeks?!!!

I had a big varicose vein on my fanjo in my first pregnancy. It went straight away after, but reappeared for my 2nd pregnancy. It went again afterwards.

For my 3rd pregnancy it reared its ugly head early, and was so large Ithought it was going to be more permanent. But now 7 weeks after giving birth it has vanished - you would never know it had been there.

Am not risking it again!

This is my 2nd pregnancy, I didn't have any the first time and they have come as an unpleasant, nasty surprise!

Good to hear that they do go though, I am getting worried as it doesn't do much for my libido....

Haha!! This is a carbon copy of my last pregnancy (DS2 is 5 months and snoozing away upstairs). I had a massive varicose that spread on my left leg from below the knee, across the kneecap (ouch to walk) and all the way into the fanjo, which of course swelled. I remember every time I stood, when the blood reached there, this painful dragging sensation.

I was prescribed beautiful full length DVT stockings, that were a bugger to put on, esp. in the last months, but as soon as I wore them the first time, the pain went away.

PS. It all disappeared as soon as DS2 was born, although the left side of my left kneecap (where the vein is) is now numb. I think the damage was just too great there.

I had them. Horrid. Gone now- as soon as the swelling etc. from giving birth went down. I hope I never get pregnant again.

Medical types told me that it would be good to do pelvic floor exercises- increases the bloody flow to the area and stops it "pooling" in your fanjo. Apparently. I also had to buy extremely attractive size 18 boy leg knickers, to avoid chafing.

I have a prescription for support stockings, that I haven't got them yet, couldn't stand the thought of them in the hot weather, but maybe I should get them....

thequietone - oh my god, how awful, glad you have sort of recovered now!

i had one with my second preg(last year). And to say i was mortified is an understatement!

I was obsessed with looking at it every day!But as soon as ds was born i inspected the area and it had virtually vanished(i mean i looked within a couple of hrs!) and when i got home and checked again it had completely disappeared.

I am certain it will return when i have another baby though.

Minniethemoocher · 06/08/2008 12:44

carmenelectra - you are braver than me! I haven't looked at it and have no intention of doing so, uggghhh! It feels bad enough, can't bear the thought of actually looking at it....

jenwa · 06/08/2008 14:52

They dont actually look as bad as they feel (maybe looking everyday it get used to it!) Its not pleasant but after dd I had 3rd degree tear and was told to look at that so now am used to seeing what is going on down there!!!

Oh i had to look.

I felt heavy between my legs for a few days and thought it was just the pressure of the baby's head, but then i had a sneaky suspicion it was a bulging vein. When it was actually confirmed with the mirror though i could have cried! And God, it looked worse
than it felt! lol

Minniethemoocher · 06/08/2008 22:17

I had a 3rd degree tear too, and I never looked at that for AGES! I can still feel the little ridge of scar tissue.....so this birth will be by elective section....I don't suppose I will look at my c-section scar for a long time either!

Ignorance is bliss when it comes to the gory stuff!

myermay · 06/08/2008 22:21

oh god, i had this and was mortified adn terrified what would happen withe them when i gave birth. thankfully they disappeared about 2 wks b4 i gave birth.

I used to put alot of really cold KY jelly on a pad wiht essential oil (sorry can't remember which one midwife recommended) and i took arnica tablets.

I'm sure you'll be fine

myermay · 06/08/2008 22:23

It looked awful, i cried. A big bulging black/purple vein, adn huge flaps - i suggest you do not look. Did go though
