Having a medical abortion in 2 days, i am terrified!! I have 4 children and got pregnant while having the birth jab so was not a planned pregnancy, i do not want anymore children and this is something i never thought would happen, im about 6 weeks so far, i have had a miscarriage before several years ago at about 9 weeks but it wasnt very painfull but dreading this one as read horror stories online, i hate being in pain

Another one here to show support. I imagine it'll be in the information you get but I took paracetamol and ibuprofen early on and just kept topped up and didn't find the pain too bad.
Nothing scary happened or was seen, its really very early. Sending you lots of love x

Took first tablet this morning and got to insert other tabs tomorrow the nerves are kicking in now!! Im trying to stay positive

It’s normal to feel nervous. I think it’s the not knowing what is going to happen, but it will be okay. Do you have anyone with you?

Hi, I know this is quite old but how did you get on? I have my first appointment tomorrow and I’m absolutely terrified!

Hi there, i was absoulutly fine, honestly nothing worse than a period i took pain meds before i inserted tablets and kept on top of them every 4 hours, the bleeding isnt nice, and just to let you know ive actually had to to it twice now as i had retained tissue left so needed another lot of tablets which i took last friday so if i can do it twice and im perfectly fine you will be fine to i promise

I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through that! I hope everything went well for you this time. Thanks so much for replying to me. Can I ask, what pain killers did you take before hand? I’ve been given codeine and told I can take with ibuprofen and paracetamol. She said to take ibuprofen and paracetamol before hand and then I might not need the codeine but I would like to minimise the pain where possible x

Jenn34 · 10/07/2026 13:34

They gave me cohydramol so same as codeine and paracetamol, and thats what i found the best for the pain, i have to take another pregnancy test in a week to see if its worked this time, i have my fingers crossed as ive been bleeding non stop for 8 weeks, message me if u wanan chat

Different people react differently to the medication. I had a surgical when I was 20 and it certainly wasn’t without nastiness. There are no easy decisions in this ❤️‍🩹. Be kind to yourself and prepare yourself for a hormone crash afterwards, it’s normal xx

Comparable to mild contractions - if you’ve been in labour previously, I would compare to very early stages of contractions. Manageable with paracetamol, and all over fairly quickly. Probably fine to go about fairly normally the following day. Good luck OP x

I think you’ll be ok at 6 weeks. I’ve had two miscarriages one of which was a medical abortion , foetus stopped growing at 12 weeks, not terminated until 17 weeks. That wasn’t painful as such, just a bit traumatic as it was much later . I managed fine with paracetamol & actually went back to work the next day( not recommending tho!)
I wish you the very best & hope it goes as smoothly as possible.
