No dye stealer??

LemonCheesecake95 · 19/04/2026 19:20

I am caught up on the fact I am around 5 weeks 4 days and still haven’t seen a dye stealer. A lot of places are saying it’s very hyped up on TTC forums and most often than not, people don’t get them but that’s all I seem to be seeing. Line progression seems normal I believe? Anyone else not had a dye stealer?

I have had 2 miscarriages, 1 missed miscarriage and a chemical pregnancy and didn’t even get as dark as these photos so I’m hoping for a sticky baby!

No dye stealer??

I've never had a dye stealer and never had a miscarriage. All babies perfectly fine.

HoneyPeaches · 20/04/2026 11:12

Hi lovely, congratulations on your pregnancy and so sorry to hear about your losses. I am just behind you at 5 weeks 3 days, and I have had a lot of anxiety regarding the darkness of tests as I also had a miscarriage in November.

You can see the line progression and it looks great! It may be that particular brand of test doesn’t get to dye stealer stage? Each test measures HGC differently I’ve found. I’d you’re really worried about it, maybe try a First Response Early Result but I think your tests look great.

Sending you lots of love ❤️

Thank you so much and congratulations to yourself also! How are you finding everything?? I’m trying to hold on until Wednesday to do the clearblue how many weeks and hope to see that 3+

I’m finding it really difficult not to read into every little twinge/ache/sign etc. currently as well as comparing anything this time around to my last pregnancy. Ultimately I am excited but I think it’s natural to feel hesitant and a bit scared or anxious after having a loss. How are you doing?

I am abroad at the moment but I also want to try to get the CB digital test to hopefully get the 3+ so might try to trawl some pharmacies for it haha. Let me know if you do it and how you get on! X

LemonCheesecake95 · 20/04/2026 13:07

I will do! At the point I’m absolutely doubled over in pain. This happened yesterday and once I managed a bowel movement it subsided quickly but this just doesnt seem to be going away. I’ve got no bleeding so keeping my fingers crossed!x

Never even heard of a dye stealer. Pregnancy tests are yes / no, unfortunately cannot predict the outcome! Hope yours continues well

Yes I saw your post on the December 2026 thread!

So glad you are doing much better now. Have you been cramping a lot? I’m noticing a lot of period-like cramps on and off as well as some right sided pain, also no bleeding. Sources online say both of these are very normal but it’s making me worried and I’m working myself up!

It happened yesterday walking around Asda and I was so uncomfortable but once I managed to go to the toilet it was so much better. Thankfully managed to go today after some orange juice and liquorice allsorts (only 3) but bloody hell! It’s the gas pains that are the worst. I’ve been down a tiktok worm hole about gas pains.

yeah that sounds totally normal! Whens your due date?x

Oh bless you! I’m so glad it’s subsided. I had no idea constipation caused that much pain, you must have felt so much relief once you finally went! I’m thankful I haven’t had too much difficulty going to the toilet, just some firmer stools (sorry TMI!) than usual but think that’s normal. Just can’t help but worry myself when I notice any niggle and then stress myself out.

I believe I will be due around 18th December! What about you? Have you had your first midwife appointment booked in? X

LemonCheesecake95 · 20/04/2026 17:11

I’ve never known it to be a thing! Never heard anyone talk about it but ended up down a tiktok rabbit hole. I have between 16th-20th December on the apps! I haven’t got one booked in yet, I have contacted them though to inform them of pregnancy. I’ve been under ARU previously so I’m having a scan on Wednesday but I think I will be just at 6 weeks at this point and I think I implanted late so not sure how much would be shown. For mind at ease I am thinking about asking to maybe go beginning of next week to allow the heartbeat to show x

OP posts:
HoneyPeaches · 20/04/2026 17:24

Me neither! All sorts can be found down the TikTok rabbit hole though haha. Aww, we can be due date buddies!

Sorry, I’m not familiar - what is ARU? I hope the scan goes well but completely understand you wanting to go a bit later on. Early scans are good for reassurance but I know sometimes baby might not be seen at 6 weeks, then that may cause worry but in reality it’s just too early.

Do you think you’ll go to the Wednesday scan and one next week or just try to go next week instead? x

Assisted reproduction unit! I have had 3 miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy and was actually going for IVF funding on Thursday 😅

I am going to see what the nurse recommends because if she says if they see nothing they’ll rebook me, I’ll be happy to do that. It also gets me started on progesterone faster if I need it

Is this your first?

Oh wow - talk about timing! I hope everything goes well with the scan(s), I will be thinking of you.

When I phoned my GP to let them know I was pregnant they said they’d reach out to the EPU to see if I could get an early scan for reassurance but I’m not sure if they’ll do it. If not, I will try to book a private scan around 8 weeks.

Yes, this will be my first. How about you?

My first too! 🤞

I think everyone should at least have the option to get the reassurance scan or pay a bit of money on the NHS. The one near me is £95 for private!

When are you looking at getting the scan if you can’t get in at EPAU and when are you planning on telling people?

I completely agree! It would alleviate so much anxiety. I think it’s around the same cost for a private scan near me, ultimately I would pay it for the reassurance but it’s extortionate!

I have my first midwife appointment on 6th May when I’ll be 7w5d based on my tracking, so I think potentially would like to book a scan for that following weekend when I’ll be 8 weeks. I am also very conscious of booking a scan in too early!

I have told my mum and my partner has told his dad, I think we will hold off announcing until we have the 12 week scan because of the previous miscarriage although we may tell closer family members just before. What about you?

lilyflower1803 · 20/04/2026 19:59

I wouldn’t worry. I never had a dye stealer this pregnancy (currently 22 weeks) I only had one with my first pregnancy as I tested late with a first response. If you’re worried try one of those but with premom IC tests I never got a dye stealer but progression was all good :) I think I stopped testing around 6 weeks pregnant after I took a CB weeks digital :)

Not sure what to do now - unfortunately had some pink blood when wiping :( I don’t have any pain but also think has the pain I had today actually not been gas and been pregnancy related :(

hope all goes well with you!x

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope you’re okay as can be. Are you able to call the EPU first thing tomorrow to see if they can see you/offer any advice?

I know some spotting can be common in early pregnancy but I can imagine how worrying this is for you. I’m here if you need to talk about anything.

Thinking of you. 💕

I'm sorry you've had a bit of blood. I posted above that my pregnancies had been fine without dye stealers, so don't let that throw you. I also had a bit of bleeding with two of my pregnancies that had a healthy outcome, so it doesn't always mean miscarriage. I hope that this might reassure you a bit, though I know it's always in the back of your mind.

Are you able to get an HCG test? That should show if it's increasing in the manner it should. I had that done with one of mine.

Thank you! It looked very similar to a previous miscarriage and I started getting pain however during the night I had a lot of trapped gas and no blood when I wiped. My life and saviour chatgpt is saying that apparently you can bleed if you’ve had trouble with going to the toilet so I am holding onto hope for that. EPAU is ringing me today so I will see what they advise x

Thank you! I am hoping they may give me one at the EPAU honestly. It’s about a 3 minute walk from my house if that so whatever they say, I’ll come running!

I think if you’re trying to go to the toilet and straining (I know we shouldn’t do that but we all do I’m sure!) then it can put pressure on things inside and cause a bit of spotting.

I’m glad the EPAU are getting back to you today and I hope all goes well with the call. x

NewAgeDawning · Yesterday 08:07

If these are the one step tests youre using, then they're notorious for not getting v dark.

Got a call from the EPAU and have an appointment tomorrow at 9 for a scan. Bizarrely the scan is in the normal maternity room and then you go off to a different area of the hospital! I would be 6 weeks tomorrow and working out dates etc it could be too early as I may have implanted late but no way to be sure so only time will tell x
