i can't have been pregnant for 14 weeks and only just started getting symptoms can i? for some strange reason i feel pregnant. i also had a period last month but it only lasted 2 or 3 days and i'd come off the pill so not sure if it counts iyswim. did a test and couldn't see anything at all then i swear in the last minute the faintest line ever appeared. surely it would have come up much sooner than that and stronger if i was 14 weeks?

I agree a faint line is a still a line. If I were you I'd take another test, asap.

izzybiz · 16/06/2008 13:06

A doctor should be able to confirm a pregnancy with an internal exam.

EffiePerine · 16/06/2008 13:07

go to your GP or FP clinic.

nappyaddict · 16/06/2008 13:09

EffiePerine · 16/06/2008 13:15

I am 14 weeks and have just had an appointment and the consultant could feel the top of my uterus. So they should be able to do the same with you. Also he found the heartbeat.

Hope you get the result you want.

tiredemma · 16/06/2008 15:19

I found out I was Pg with DS2 at 16 weeks, had no idea. I had continued to have periods (even continued taking pill)
I only found out when I went to GPs for a urine test (had a kidney infection)- results came back with positive for pregnancy also.

it was a bloody shock.

Singingintherain · 16/06/2008 16:54

nappyaddict, I originally started out with what I was told was viral gastroenteritis type of thing. I was working with a girl who had, had it and had been off work for a while. Just after she returned I started being very ill. I went to the Doctor and told him of my friend at work and my symptoms and this is what he treated me for. I was very young at the time (21) and was not very clued up on pregnancy and symptoms etc iykwim. My periods were all over the place as I had been on and off the pill through not taking it properly. I know it was my fault and I do not know why I was not more careful at the time.

I kept returning to the Doctor telling him that I was still no better and he kept giving me loads of different types of tablets. I took my mum at one stage as I was convinced there was something else wrong.

It was the final straw when I went with my bf (dh). I told him you might as well be giving me buttons to swallow as they were having no effect. This is when he decided to listed to my stomach. I thought he was listening to the terrible noises my stomach had been making, but instead he found a heartbeat. I felt very stupid. His next words to me were we better get you booked in with the Midwife and send you for a scan. There was no mention of any options available, but I was very happy and new I was going to continue with the pregnancy eventhough the timing was terrible.

I turned out to be 13 weeks pregnant and still are not sure if I actually had the virus in the first place and had morning sickness instead, and that was just pure luck that it was just after my friend came back to work with similar symptoms. It did cause some concern for the Doctor, who had to spend a long time researching the effects of all the pills they had given me.

My DD was born just fine, a bit late, but all ok. As I say I was young and did loads of thing pregnant women should not do, but everything then was fine. This time I am pregnant with DC3 after two recent mc's and I was very careful with all three recent pregnancies.

I hope all goes well for you and you get the result that you really want.

nappyaddict - a line is a line. You can get cheapo HPTs from pound shops and those cheapish almost chemists for £1 each, if one is close by I would do another test to see if the line is darker.

Your symptoms sound worryingly like those of an ectopic. I would call NHS direct now for advice.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 16/06/2008 17:36

Nappyaddict -
without wishing to freak you out, your GP will absolutely NOT laugh you out of the office, you had a pos preg test so you are, or have been, pregnant. You have unusual symptoms including arm/neck pain that is a sign of ectopic pregnancy. You need to have the pregnancy confirmed, or have investigation into the possibility it could be ectopic. Good luck at the docs. xx

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 00:16

i thought with ectopic pregnancies you get a gush of blood? i also thought it happens at around 8 to 10 weeks? all this is according to my friend who has had a few ectopic pregnancies.

ElvinaFrizzell · 17/06/2008 00:39

Nappyaddict,

How are you feeling now? How long did you leave the test before reading it? I got a faint line on a cheap test but it was after five mins. and turned out it was an evaporation line.

I've also had a ruptured ectopic and had all the symptoms of a bad stomach upset followed by chest pain like a bad stitch. The symptoms can vary widely. If you really think you are pregnant and are still in pain please get yourself to A & E. Don't wait for a GP appt in the morning. Hope I'm worrying you for nothing though.

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 00:47

not had any chest pain and stomach pains seem to be easing off finally. all the other pains seemed to disappear about tea time after i'd had a nice 3 hour sleep. didn't realise how tired i was!!

it said to leave it for 5 mins and not to read after 10 mins. there was nothing there at all and was just about to chuck it when something appeared at about 4 mins.

did you get bleedin with your ectopic? how many weeks were you when you discovered it was ectopic?

OP posts:
ElvinaFrizzell · 17/06/2008 01:10

I was about 9 weeks when my ep ruptured. (Have heard of ep diagnosed at 16wks+ though)I had near normal periods but did a test because I felt a bit strange and got a positive 2 weeks after a period! I didn't have any pain though until it ruptured just more irregular bleeding and dizzyness which is what rang alarm bells with your earlier post. Another classic symptom is what's called 'prune juice' bleeding - very dark brown watery blood.

Sorry to worry you, just concerned anyone else might go through what I did. Look after yourself.

belgo · 17/06/2008 08:25

how are you nappy addict?

tinkhasabean · 17/06/2008 08:43

good luck with drs

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 12:05

am thinking about cancelling the appointment cos i feel absolutely fine today and surely if it was something serious like ectopic pregnancy they symptoms wouldn't go away just like that. i think it must have just been a stomach upset.

OP posts:
spendalittlelivealot · 17/06/2008 12:11

id still go and get checked out especially as you've had a faint positive test.

mammyjo · 17/06/2008 12:11

NA, whatever you decide to do I hope you are ok. All sounds very confusing for you! Maybe it is worth keeping the appointment just for your own peace of mind

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 12:28

i'm going to go to get some more tests now and see what they come up with.

OP posts:
spendalittlelivealot · 17/06/2008 12:46

fingers (and toes) crossed for you that you get the result u want x

nappyaddict · 17/06/2008 12:49

i don't even know what result i want!!

OP posts:
lulumama · 17/06/2008 12:53

nappy, did the line come up within the time specfied on the test? was it coloured or grey? did you use first wee of the day

it is possible to be pregnant even if you are on the pill.... it is not 100 % effective.

you need to be checked out
