Hi. I see a lot of people helping on this and wanted to reach out to see if anyone could help me.
so basically a woman I have been seeing has let me know she is pregnant and it is my child. She went for an ultrasound today and was dated 6 weeks 3 days but the first time I slept with her 5 weeks and 3 days ago. Also to add I only ejaculated in her on the 7th of November, I remember as we was away for the night and it just happened? I questioned her on this and she has said that that’s how pregnancy is dated. I know she slept with someone else about 7 and half weeks ago as she let me know but said she had a period in between and hasn’t slept with someone else since. Wouldn’t it make more sense for it to be the other man’s child as she is 6 weeks 3 days today?

No ir's not more likely his. Look up how they date pregnancies... HTH.

newtlover · 10/12/2024 18:49

well this is a bit gross and if you want to avoid and unwanted pregnancy there is a very clear and obvious avoidance you need to take
however, to answer your question, the woman is right and pregnancy is conventionally dated from the first day of the last menstrual period.

RandomMess · 10/12/2024 18:49

To date a pregnancy it's approximately the day they conceived plus 2 weeks as they count from the last period and you generally conceive around 2 weeks after the start of your last period. So if she conceived 7/8 November but her last period (LMP) was 2 weeks before that she woks k currently be 6/7 weeks pregnant.

Scottishskifun · 10/12/2024 18:51

She's right they take the last day of your last period as the start of the dating point not the ovulation or conception date.

Most women it's usually around 10-16 days after last day of period is ovulation date so actual conception was roughly around 4-5 weeks ago. Also you can have sperm in pre-ejaculation and women can become pregnant as long as sperms is present (basic biology lesson) so it's not necessary based on when you ejaculated via unprotected sex if you were having unprotected sex before that.

Ludovico · 10/12/2024 18:51

The pregnancy is dated from her last period. So it’s kind of back dated from the beginning of her cycle. So whilst she is not even pregnant yet - it’s counted as if she is.

so yes probably are the father.

This is second thread I’ve seen today. Why the fuck are people in this day and age not wearing protection. Go and get an aids test buddy ffs

cadburyegg · 10/12/2024 18:54

No, it's more likely to be yours because the pregnancy is dated from the first day of her last period.

sel2223 · 10/12/2024 18:54

6 weeks and 3 days pregnancy means conception around 4 weeks and 3 days ago.

The way pregnancy dating works is that there are 2 weeks added on as it's counted from the start of the current cycle and ovulation is a couple of weeks after that. Technically the first 2 weeks of pregnancy are before conception has even taken place.

4 weeks 3 days ago takes you to 9th November bearing in mind scans can be a couple of days out either way and sperm can live inside a woman for 5 days before ovulation - you had unprotected sex on 7th November which would definitely match up to this - the baby is far, far more likely to be yours than the other guys as, if it was his, that would make her 9+ weeks pregnant.

newtlover · 10/12/2024 18:58

what are you going to do with this information OP ?

hi I am more than happy to be a father, I was just confused on how she could have been 6 weeks 3 days if we first slept together 5 weeks 3 days ago that’s all. I didn’t mean to come and offend anyone I seen a few comment some horrible things. I just wanted some advice really.

Very roughly

Ovulation is 14 days after the last period.
Pregnancy is dated from the first day of the last period

So if a woman is 4 weeks pregnant, the egg has been fertilised only two weeks before. Give or take a few days.

Pregnancy of 6 weeks, I’d expect you to have had sex with her about 4 ish weeks ago
its not possible for the other guy, who was 7 weeks ago to be the father.

Ughouchargh · 10/12/2024 19:24

7th November is about right for date of conception for the reason of the slightly confusing dating system described above. Congratulations.

Washywishy · 10/12/2024 19:29

Why has she had such an early scan?

Hi OP, sorry you've had so many needlessly catty replies to a perfectly understandable question.

Based on the dates you've provided, it's significantly more likely that you're the father. Pregnancy is dated from her last period.

No it’s not catty. It’s in exasperation that people are just fucking each other with zero protection then wondering who the bloody dad is.

Stigma needs to come back as there is zero shame any more

Some people on here forget that people often ask questions on here because they’re trying to understand something.

There was no need for you to have been jumped on like that.

All the best with things!

Better that he asks here than questioning the mother!

I didn’t want to stress her out, she has had many miscarriages and I didn’t want to be the reason for another.

Stigma really doesn't need to come back because the man always got away scot-free whilst the woman was called every name under the sun. If stigma comes back, it'll be women shamed, not men.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 10/12/2024 20:04
