I am 4 weeks 4 days. I have been taking folic acid and vitamin D for the last few years as had IVF, I saw my friend today and she said I should be taking pregnacare and now I’m confused if I should be.

i eat a really healthy diet and have fruit and vegetables every day, I also eat fish once a week, red meat twice a week and chicken the rest of the week.

i eat a lot of spinach and asparagus and broccoli and also berries.

any advice would be appreciated x

Pregnacare is just an expensive multi vitamin marketed to pregnant women. You will be fine with vit D and folic acid.

As a midwife I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Totally agree with this. I’ve only taken folic acid til 12 weeks, and Vit D throughout. I’ve also taken iron since my blood test showed I was low

I took Pregnacare at the start of my pregnancy but always felt very nauseous after taking them. I stopped and went on to only take vitamin D and folic acid and had a healthy pregnancy and baby so you don't need to take Pregnacare, then vitamins are sufficient I think

I liked taking a multivitamin suitable for pregnancy but cheaper ones than Pregnacare are available. I just felt like it was good to have the additional vitamins for me as the baby takes so much from you.

Pregnacare only cost me 4 quid

4 quid is hardly expensive!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 27/09/2024 18:25

@teatoast8

A quick comparison on Tesco online shows that each pregnacare tablet costs 14p each compared with a generic brand multivitamin at 2p each.

They do the same thing but pregncare is 600% more expensive than the supermarket brand.

4 quid on amazon. Can't really go wrong and it's what ive always used

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 27/09/2024 19:13

@teatoast8

that's still 600% more than other brands.

There's nothing wrong with it. You are just spending money on a brand name that's all.

And? They work for me. 4 quid isn't expensive

baby2boo · 27/09/2024 20:32

I found a pregnancy vitamin in my pharmacy for less than £4 and when I compared to pregnacare it was virtually identical in terms of vitamins. It actually had a higher % of vitamins compared to one brand that was selling for £34

baby2boo · 27/09/2024 20:33

I also found that although pregnacare initally appeared to have more tablets per pack it usually said to take 2/3 tablets vs the 1 tablet in cheaper brands.

PepaWepa · 27/09/2024 20:41

I took no supplements during my first pregnancy but had a super healthy diet. Baby (child now 7) healthiest I know. Current pregnancy I've been taking pregnacare. Your diet alone sounds fine to me. Congratulations x

The ones I get you only take 1

Button28384738 · 27/09/2024 20:54

Folic acid is the most important thing but I struggled with anaemia in my first pregnancy so took a pregnancy multivitamin (own brand not pregnacare) in my 2nd pregnancy and didn't get anaemic at all

WildeWalker · 27/09/2024 21:30

Aldi do their own version of Pregnacare, exactly the same, very similar packaging and half the price
