Anyone else on the long 12-week-wait (until scan?)

Hiya, I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and the thought of waiting until the end of October to finally get some sort of real confirmation I'm pregnant is driving me mad.

Anyone else on the long 12 week wait for a scan?

I should say, I know we could go private and I may end up doing just that. But man, seems so strange to wait so long!

Hey @showersandflowers I'm exactly the same as you, 7 weeks tomorrow!

I actually do have a scan at the EPU tomorrow due to previous loss, it's been booked for about 3 weeks now and I'm dreading it!

I had a mmc in May and I'm just so anxious this time around.

Hope you're feeling ok xx

ThatGladSwan · 24/09/2024 14:42

Hi angel, first of all, congratulations!
I am 8 weeks today and I caved and booked an early scan for Thursday, just to hear a heartbeat I know I wont see much. I'm based in the Midlands so I've booked with Peek A Baby, if you have one near you, they seem really good and it was £49 for an early reassurance scan!
How are you feeling being pregnant?

ThatGladSwan · 24/09/2024 14:43

Hiya @rosecbrm congratulations! I really hope it all goes well for you, I'll be keeping everything crossed for you x

holi2024 · 24/09/2024 14:47

Hi everyone 👋🏻 yes, me! I’m 7 weeks on Thursday. Going for an early scan on thurs due to previous loss, I have serious scanxiety! My 12 week scan feels like light years away at the moment. Wishing you all luck !

First of all, congratulations! Im sorry to hear about your previous loss angel, I really hope everything goes well for you!
I agree however, having to wait weeks for your 12 week scan feels like an eternity lol

lololulu · 24/09/2024 14:54

You don't want 12 weeks though do you?

showersandflowers · 24/09/2024 15:07

Hello everyone! Nice to be among fellow pregnant women! I've just realised as well that it's particularly annoying this wait because for a lot of us, it's a time when we're not telling anyone yet but it's a big part of our day-to-day, so it's nice to hear from you and to not feel so alone!

@ThatGladSwan I'm feeling okay, wet mild nausea and it's only really occurred to me this week that I have no idea whether this baby is okay and that I should feel worried about that. Sounds weird but at first I was like "I'm pregnant!" And now it's like "I'm pregnant and I really hope this baby is okay, can't wait to see him or her on the scan, to feel reassurance". I'm down south and they want £89 in my local place. It's not budget breaking but husbands birthday is coming up so we've got a whole day planned which will cost a bit so seems a bit out of reach atm to budget for the scan. Maybe next month!

@rosecbrm I hope it all goes well for you, that must be especially tough. It'll be such a special moment though, hopefully!

@holi2024 I really hope it goes well for you. I know what you mean, especially if you've had a not-so-happy scan in the past, it can be rough.

@lololulu what do you mean? Do you mean you don't because you typically find out at 4/5/6 weeks that you're pregnant? I guess that is true. I think I count at least the two weeks before finding out as waiting weeks though, it's just the two week wait to find out if you conceived instead!

I'm 11 weeks today, so a bit closer than you - 8 days to go for me! But it still feels like forever. I didn't find the 6/7/8 week wait as bad, because my nausea was still bad so that was quite reassuring, but I feel alright now and as nice as that is, it doesn't offer the same reassurance...

showersandflowers · 24/09/2024 15:46

@YouveGotAFastCar I totally get that. I've only had touches of nausea and it's making the wait seem even longer. I think I saw that on the USA they offer scans at 6 weeks (granted, that's private medical care so it makes sense) but I think I'd be so reassured by that.

I'm guessing you're all on first babies (even if not first pregnancy)! By the time you're on the second you don't have much time to think about the pregnancy because you're running after your toddler, and the time goes SO much faster. The best thing to do therefore is to keep busy. Assign half an hour a day to obsessive googling 'what my baby looks like now' and the rest of the time do as much as you can, nausea permitting. It really will help it go faster.

I am 6 weeks with baby number 4 and to be honest I've only thought about it a few times in the last two weeks. With baby 3 the time before the dating scan went by very quickly so I'm sure this one will too. The quicker the better, as the nausea is awful!

Tigerlilli · 24/09/2024 22:57

Hi, congrats everyone!

I have total scanxiety! I thought I was much further along, had a private scan today and it’s only measuring 5+3.
She did an abdominal ultrasound, could see the sac and yolk but that’s is all. From friends and family, I thought under 10 weeks needed to be trans vaginal ultrasound? Is it unusual to have abdo ultrasound this early?

I came away with more anxieties than I went with!

Good luck everyone x

Hey guys, hoping to join and have a bit of a hand hold. Feeling a bit lonely in this wait!

6 weeks on Thursday so a bit behind the rest of you, and been having on off bleeding ( I did with previous babies but I'm still terrified ) so EPU are scanning me Friday if I'm still okay by then.

Feeling scared and alone ☹️
Sorry if I've brought a downer to the thread!
xx

Ohwelldone · 25/09/2024 11:13

I'm 10+4 today, I hate this wait but mine is finally coming up, a week on Friday! 👏
Can't wait to get some reassurance and tell people because this is my 3rd and I'm struggling to hide it a bit already 😅

showersandflowers · 25/09/2024 11:14

@Anonymous130197 not a downer at all, for some people it's a breeze and for others it's a scary time. How many do you have?

OP posts:
showersandflowers · 25/09/2024 11:16

@Tigerlilli I'm sorry to hear the scan wasn't what you hoped, that must be worrying. With my first I didn't have any good scans at all, on the 12 week one they hit me with the old "hmmm, I'm not seeing anything" which sent me reeling. They eventually found her with an internal wand exam but then I started bleeding! But! It was all well in the end and she's now nearly 3 :) so a bad scan isn't necessarily the end of the road!

showersandflowers · 25/09/2024 11:17

@Ohwelldone oh wow, so close. Can't wait to be where you are now. 7 weeks today and it feels forever away. I'm curious, this is my second and even at 7 weeks I'm feeling my trousers tightening (pretty sure that's just bloat though...) when did it really start to show for you?

Its felt like a long wait, I found out between 4&5 weeks... It probably is just bloat still but its definitely started to get rounder and more bump like since around 9 weeks I'd say.. I know with my 2nd I got a big bump pretty quickly and then it just seemed to stay the same size, so I assume it'll be similar this time round.

26dX · 25/09/2024 13:10

I also think the wait from 12-20 then 20 weeks to birth is crazy 😂😂

browneyedgirl626 · 25/09/2024 13:35

Hello 👋🏼

I think I'm in the same boat as you all, I'm 8 weeks today and waiting for the nhs booking appointment to come through. I had a scan last week which showed a heartbeat, sac, and beginning of amniotic sac so that was great but now I'm back to worrying again 🥴 I have a 9 month old so he is keeping me busy but the flipside is I'm knackered and I've felt more sick this time, I feel like I'm showing already but that's probably just the hormones and all the beige food I'm eating!

showersandflowers · 28/09/2024 17:04

Somehow needing maternity clothes already despite only being 7 weeks 3 days. Not because of baby but I think just because of insane bloat. And I feel nauseous if I don't eat every 2ish hours which I think is not helping. I also had it with my first that if I had anything like a waist band press on my stomach, I'd feel really nauseous. Making me feel really inflated already.

OP posts:
JerryCanDo · 28/09/2024 20:05

Yeah I have that too, and only six weeks 🙄 It's a royal pain! Luckily I have a couple of comfy pairs of trousers in a size up, leftover from last postpartum period when mat clothes are too big but your own clothes too small. Might be worth investing? You're going to need them post-delivery anyway!

holi2024 · 29/09/2024 11:49

How’s everyone getting on? I’m 7.5 weeks now, had a scan at bang on 7 weeks and all was ok, heartbeat seen which was lovely. But. I feel like a paranoid anxious mess! I worry every time I go to the loo that I’m going to see blood. I really don’t know what to do other than tell myself that anything that happens is out of my control and I have to just stay positive. Anyone feeling remotely similar !? Feels like a lonely place !

CosmoMango · 29/09/2024 14:08

I'm really struggling and not even 4 weeks yet! Found out at 3+3 on Thursday. I am not convinced I'll get to my 12 week scan :( as I have had a lot of cramping the last few weeks

rosecbrm · 29/09/2024 14:37

@holi2024 I'm the exact same as you lovely, 7.5 weeks and had my first scan last week and all was great, but I'm just convinced something is going to go wrong still - so horrible!

I also had bad bladder type pain this morning when waking up, I think it's from holding my wee all night and the pressure.. it disappeared about 5/10 mins after going to the toilet but still scary!

Hope everyone's doing ok x
