Two missed miscarriages- any stories of hope?

Hi guys

Found out today that I’ve had another mmc. I can’t really believe it. I had a scan at 9+2 and everything was fine. Last time it happened at 8+3 (almost a year ago exactly).

I had no symptoms so no bleeding or cramping but was told at the 12 week scan. I’m heartbroken. Id got my hopes up and thought everything might be fine. I already have 1 son and had a straightforward pregnancy but this time round things seem to be different.

Can anyone share any success stories please? If you had a successful pregnancy after did you do anything differently? My head is scrambled and I can’t face going through this again.

Thank you xx

Yes me! I had 4 miscarriages. 2 missed. My 2nd MMC was incredibly traumatic.

I had a D&C, recovery was much easier than all of my other miscarriages, and I was pregnant successfully, quickly thereafter.

PilgorTheGoat · 20/08/2024 16:07

I had 3 miscarriages, 2 missed. Then I had my twinnies. ExH had a sperm analysis done in the interim period and his sperm were in a bad way! He took a number of vitamins, started wearing loose boxers, stopped having his laptop on his lap, etc. I’ve no idea if any of this helped as we didn’t test the soeem again.

Hellothere89 · 20/08/2024 16:08

Wow thanks for your quick reply @Thesonofaphesantplucker - I appreciate it. I’m so so sorry to hear you had to go through that. I had a difficult recovery after my first mmc (took 10 weeks to stop bleeding, I was in and out of hospital and ended up having an MVA). I’ve booked in for an MVA on Thursday because I can’t face all that again. Hopefully I don’t start bleeding before then.

Good to hear you had a successful pregnancy after though - did you take anything/ did anything change that time?

Two missed and one chemical here before I got pregnant with my miracle girl. I was the same as you in that I'd previously had a son with no issues.

I remember the trauma of finding out about the second MMC vividly. I'm so sorry for your losses. I hope you get your miracle rainbow soon!

Hellothere89 · 20/08/2024 16:12

@TheBirdintheCave gosh you had a rough time too! It’s so tough. Did you do anything differently when you had your little girl? I’m so glad you had your rainbow baby.

Hi yes! I have a few threads but 2 MMC and now a girl nearly two

I'm so so sorry for your losses...
see if GP can offer any support/tests. Mine was willing to give blood tests and uterus scan x

Yahoo968 · 20/08/2024 16:14

2 miscarriages before having our son, 2 miscarriages in-between to then to go on to having our daughter. 2 miscarriages after so stopped trying.
Son was born at 32 weeks.
Daughter at 29 weeks.
They are now 41 and 39 years old.
The trauma is awful. I'm sorry for your losses and hope you get your miracle rainbow.

cirillaofcintra · 20/08/2024 16:17

So sorry for your losses. I went through the same. Two MCs in a row after having my DD with no problems. The second MC was a blighted ovum. I had to have medical management the first time and D&C the second. Now 27 weeks pregnant with our 2nd DD! My NHS trust said they wouldn't do anything until I'd had 3 in a row, so I went private, had a quick online consultation and was prescribed progesterone, a steroid called prednisolone (due to history of an autoimmune condition), aspirin, high-dose folic acid, and advised to take Myo-Inositol. Something must have worked - or the MCs were just bad luck - as this pregnancy has been problem-free. I did have some light spotting around 6-8 weeks (terrifying given previous history), but I now believe that was irritation from the progesterone pessaries. I hope things work out for you.

misslomi · 20/08/2024 16:18

I've had 2 miscarriages, 1 missed where we found out at the 12 week scan. I'm currently nursing my 5 week old, didn't do anything different to my previous pregnancies I just think that sometimes things aren't meant to be.

Hellothere89 · 20/08/2024 16:32

@Doodledeedum I had blood tests and a scan after the first - everything came back fine! I also was on progesterone this time. I think I’ll go back and see if they can do anything further. Did they give you anything?

@cirillaofcintra ah congratulations! It helps hearing these positive stories. Do you mind me asking who you had a consultation with? I’m happy to go private if I need to.

Not at all, it was Nova Fertility, Dr. Lamiya Mohiyiddeen, she knew her stuff. Pricey but I wanted to cover all bases with meds for the next attempt.

@Hellothere89 i should also say, I took a small dose of aspirin for my successful pregnancies post miscarriages. I also followed the vitamin protocol in the book ‘it starts with an egg’ and had acupuncture weekly (and took some god awful Chinese herbs!)

LondonLancashireRose · 20/08/2024 17:33

I had two MMC before DC1 then another between him and DC2. D&C each time. I also decided to take small dose aspirin after a lot of googling after the second MMC. Like another poster said, we couldn't have any tests on the NHS as it wasn't 3 in a row.

DC2 is 9 now and it feels like a long time ago and we are a very happy family, but it changed me as a person and I still mourn, for the babies of course but also for the loss of joy-filled excitement about pregnancy which was replaced by constant worry. It was one of the factors that made us stop at 2.

I don't know if that's helpful or not, but I am sending you a handhold. It's so very hard. One midwife said to me that humans are possibly even worse at reproducing than pandas - not sure if it's true but it did raise a smile at a hard time!

Doodledeedum · 20/08/2024 18:17

@Hellothere89 I'm glad they've checked but I know it's hard when there's no obvious answer
I took it upon myself to take aspirin the third time
I took magnesium prior to falling pregnant too

Ah I’m so sorry! You hit the nail on the head though - it completely changes you and it completely ruins pregnancy.

It seems like aspirin is a common theme - which I did actually read about after the first mmc. I saw a consultant and asked about it - she never came back to me. Part of me wonders if this pregnancy could have turned out differently if I’d just taken it and so I wouldn’t by where I am now, going through all this again. I know there’s little point beating myself up, but I still will.

The thought of ttc again (and the stress of that) along with those difficult initial weeks seem hard. The comment about pandas did make me laugh though - it’s very true!

Sorry to hear about your losses - I hope you’re ok. Were you advised to take the low dose aspirin? It seems like it’s recommended.

@Hellothere89 I'm so sorry - we're very similar. I have a 2.5 year old daughter who was a straight forward pregnancy - after then I had two back to back MMCs. One found at 12 weeks following a positive scan at 8 weeks, one found at 7/8 weeks but took a couple of weeks to confirm so had surgery at 10 weeks. This was in Oct last year and Jan this year so in close concession.

I had 3 months off and took folic acid and vitamin D (for what it's worth), and I'm now 19 weeks pregnant and so far all looks well ❤️

Thank you and to be truthful, no. I did not get medical advice to take the aspirin. I have, however, read as many medical reports on the subject as I can find and it seemed like a bit of a no brainer in my case. I was taking it from ovulation but when I mentioned it to my doctor he said to just keep taking it as he thought it would assist with the whole process.

ApplesonTuesdays · 20/08/2024 21:10

I had two miscarriages but then went on and had 3 full term pregnancies in quick succession. The 3rd pregnancy did start as a twin pregnancy but one twin had died by the time I had my 12week scan.

I think most women go through their fertile years and have at least one miscarriage.
