Light brown discharge at 5w6d, worried after 2 previous MCs

Hi everyone,

Just looking for hopefully some reassurance. I’m 5w6d going off my LMP, so super early. Friday afternoon at around 3pm after going to the toilet I noticed there was a slight pink tinge to the toilet roll. Then stopped then noticed again at 5pm. Spoke to the GP who sorted me an urgent referral to the EPU and I have a scan on Tuesday. Yesterday only once noticed some really light brown discharge. However today there’s more. It’s not excessive and is mixed with normal discharge, I’m just so worried and can’t decide if I should be going to the hospital sooner? The GP said to go to a&e if it got worse but I think that was if it turns to red blood and/or I have pain? The other thing is I had lower back ache Friday but no pain since

Sorry for all the TMI descriptions, I’m just so worried with my history😔 x

Hi, sorry to say but when I had my mmc I only knew something was wrong because I started getting tinged discharge and then tiny amounts of pink and brown, I went to the hospital but they did nothing until I got an appt with my epu so yes unless it's bright red heavy bleeding and pain they generally won't do anything and you'll have to wait it out for epu unfortunately. Hopefully it's a good outcome for you 🤞but I wouldn't bother with the trip to hospital

Steffi12 · 04/08/2024 12:02

Hi @Kellyaust so sorry to hear about your MMC😔
I too have had 2 MMCs, the first one the first sign was really dark brown discharge and more if it. The second time I had zero spotting or bleeding at all and just found out at scans. Even right up until my treatment I had no signs of MC.
I am fearing the worst 😔
Thank you for letting me know about the hospital and for your best wishes x

With your history epu should offer more scans anyway I only had one mmc and then after that with my next pregnancy I had 2 weekly scans with my epu x

Sadly not for me in my area, my second pregnancy I wasn’t offered anything extra and found out at a private scan. This time around I tried to get help before TTC and came up against many walls, saying nothing is done until I’ve had 3. Then since conceiving asked the midwife’s said they only do extra scans etc if I’d had 3. Feeling very let down by the system. I’m not even under any midwife care currently as they said to ring when I’m 6 weeks which I was planning on doing tomorrow. But will wait now until after my scan as may be pointless 😔 x

God that's dreadful!!! My epu jumped through hoops for me and bent the truth a little so I could get my scans etc I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you 🤞

@Steffi12 Hi, sorry your experiencing this, I am in a similar position and expecting the worst. I am very early only 5 weeks 3 days, and since I found out 10 days ago I have had constant brown watery discharge. Only when wiped but been consistently there. Been worrying all week that my lines hadn't been darkening much either on tests. This morning I had bleeding that seemed different, more a very watery dark red when I wiped. Thought straight away that was it and cried to other half. Nothing much has happened since, I'd almost rather it just happened if it's going to, can't bare the limbo anymore can't think about anything else. Had a missed miscarriage a few years ago also which was horrid. Really hope yours turns out to be nothing! X

@CharlotteRae I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this too and sorry to hear about your previous missed miscarriage. Pregnancy is hard but pregnancy after loss is something else!

Are you able to contact your EPU or out of hours GP at all to arrange a scan?
The limbo is awful and I just worry there’s something I should be doing rather than just waiting. I also hope yours turns out to be nothing to worry about 🤞🏻 x

They really should I mean my first and only mmc they wouldn't even see me for a few days, and I was 11 weeks at this point, so I rang around and got a private scan same day and that's how I found out baby had died....only then did they see me urgently! It all needs changing!! And then when I went in I was in same room with people happily pregnant and having dating scans 🥹 it's all messed up. I feel for you I really do x

Monkfish24 · 04/08/2024 12:57

Hi, I've had pink/brown discharge at the 5ish week mark in both my pregnancies, my first pregnancy is now a 2 year old currently napping in bed and the 2nd I'm now 12 weeks along with, had my scan last week and all is well. I was told it can be implantation bleeding at around 5 weeks. I can understand why you're worried with your history, I feared the worst both times too, I just wanted to say that it can all turn out OK though. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you x

CharlotteRae · 04/08/2024 13:02

@Steffi12 spoke to EPU last Thursday regarding the continuous brown spotting and they said as expected, that I'd need to give it more time and if I was still testing positive the following week and still spotting they would see me. I'm not 6 weeks until Thursday so I'm thinking I may aswell hold off calling back until then? Yes you feel so helpless don't you? If this hasn't worked out I feel frustrated with my body for dragging out the inevitable.

@Monkfish24 that's lovely to know, I hope that is the case for you @Steffi12

I really am not holding out any hope for myself now x

Steffi12 · 05/08/2024 06:24

Hi ladies,

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences and support
I ended up going to a&e yesterday afternoon as it just got worse and I felt I just wanted to try even if they turned me away. I can’t actually fault my local hospital for the care I received. The triage nurse got my bloods and urine sorted and I was on the gynae ward within the hour. Up there I had a consult with a doctor who actually was quite reassuring and he examined me and checked my cervix and said all looks normal. So after spending some hours up there I came home and awaiting my scan tomorrow. However they said I could ring up and find out my hcg bloods last night. And this is where I feel this isn’t going to work out. My hcg was 1,195. I was 5w6d yesterday, 6 weeks today. They’re going to re check my bloods tomorrow and I know you can’t take one reading as it’s more to do with the rising levels. But I’ve had a look at the ranges and is within range, but on the lower side. I might not totally understand, but working out when I got a positive test and my levels now I can’t see how they’re been doubling every 48hrs, I feel the number should be higher. Anyway sorry for the massive update. I’m trying to stay positive but I just have a feeling this is history repeating itself for me again 😔

Hope everyone is okay and sending best wishes to those going through this too, hoping for good outcomes for us all x

@Steffi12 one step at a time, it’s in the normal range and babies don’t grow along linear lines. I had bleeding at 5w4d ish (it’s a while ago) and they didn’t find a heartbeat, they also said baby was far too small and could my dates be out. 2 weeks later I went back, they found a heartbeat, and it was now looking bigger than he should have done at that gestation. He’s 3. You know it doesn’t always work out and there’s nothing you can do to change the outcome, something I found reassuring, but cross the bridges as you come to them. One at a time. I’m also so sorry for your losses.

@Steffi12 that's good you were well looked after, and agree that you shouldn't give up hope yet! Really hope it goes your way for the scan. Iv just left a vm for EPU so hoping they will help and get me some answers soon. My bleeding seems to have gone back to the brown discharge now, really thought it was all over yesterday. Feel like my bodies letting me down again like last times MMC. Xx

That's what they did when I went but it didn't really tell me anything new, they said my cervix was closed couldn't see anything wrong and had to wait for the scan anyway. I'm not sure on the bloods so I can't comment on your level but fingers crossed for your scan hopefully all works out for you 🤞

Aww thank you so much. Trying to keep a bit positive as I wait for tomorrow.
Ahh I hope they get back to you asap and are
also able to help. That’s good the bleeding has slowed down. My brown discharge seems to have stopped for the time being. I totally empathise and also feel let down by my body, MMCs are so cruel. Hope you are able to get positive answers soon xx

Same 🥲 I tested positive a week ago and I had strong pregnancy symptoms since, my boobs were painful and strong nausea too. Then noticed this morning so pale pink when wiping and now bright red. I'm 5 weeks today. I had an MC recently I'm April and I'm fearing the worst. X

So sorry to hear you’re going through this too and about your previous MC. I also had similar symptoms this time and now worrying they are starting to fade. Are you able to contact your EPU at all for advice and if they could see you? The limbo and the unknown is the worst 😓 x

Thank you. My symptoms seem to have faded. I'm going to contact my GP tomorrow and hopefully get a scan. I just bought another test to see what the line looks like. I know that doesn't tell much as it varies throughout he day anyway but I'm looking for a bit of reassurance I guess. Good luck for Tuesday, I hope all is okay and healthy. Are you still bleeding? At the moment mines like a very light period. X

I’m sorry to hear your symptoms have faded, I’m the same it’s so worrying. I sometimes feel a little sick but think it’s just the worry. I hope you are able to get through to your GP today and they can get you into the EPU asap. I totally understand, I did a test on Sunday just wanting to see something positive. Thank you so much for your best wishes, my scan is this afternoon, trying to keep a bit of hope but feel it won’t be good news.
Yesterday the bleeding calmed right down until the evening. And then I’ve had more this morning. It’s still brown, it’s like what I get at the end of my normal period.
Hope you’re holding up okay 💐 x

My bleeding picked up significantly yesterday and continued through the night so I think I'm well and truly out now. X
