What hot drinks did you drink on pregnancy?

I'm a nervous Nelly so don't want to drink caffeine (I already don't drink, smoke, eat meat, fish or eggs so really giving up caffeine will be a very small sacrifice).

What did you drink if you were in the same situation? Love some redbush and any other suggestions? Not really into decaf tea or coffee.

I still had one very sacred coffee a day while pregnant but used to drink 4 or 5 a day so replaced those with either peppermint tea or this twinings one- I can't normally tolerate fruit teas they always smell better than they taste but this one is lovely (don't think it made me glow though 😂)

I still had one tea and 1 coffee a day. You're allowed caffeine, it's not banned! Pregnancy for me was so unenjoyable that I just couldn't face not having my morning coffee and allowed myself that.

Santasbigredbobblehat · 26/07/2024 13:25

I have a cup of tea and a single shot coffee everyday with all three pregnancies. I read a book about pregnancy myths and it explained that the caffeine thing was after women had had miscarriages they were asked questions (in a study) like 'did you smoke? Did you drink caffeine?' And the answers were usually yes which led to the advice of not consuming caffeine. Obviously personal choice.

Other teas I drank were red bush, mint and ginger.

Luluem · 26/07/2024 13:27

Mainly mint tea or the occasional decaf coffee and tea (although can see you’re not keen on them - it is worth shopping around). Redbush is nice as is the sleepytime bear tea (but if you’re already tired with pregnancy you probably don’t need it haha)

Garman · 26/07/2024 13:29

Why can’t you eat any/all fish OP?

PeachPairPlum · 26/07/2024 13:29

Went off milky coffee but still liked espressos.

There's not an issue with caffeine during pregnancy- in moderation.

Clocloxx · 26/07/2024 13:30

Coffee.. really helped with my nausea

readyforroundthree · 26/07/2024 13:43

I usually have 1 cup of coffee a day and one cup of tea. If I want any other hot drink it's usually peppermint or lemon and ginger herbal teas.

NorthernBelles · 26/07/2024 13:56

I drank as usual during pregnancy, several cups of green tea per day plus an occasional small beer.

Make sure you're getting the recommended 60g of protein daily, might be harder to achieve if you're off meat, fish, and eggs.

Samanabanana · 26/07/2024 14:00

Yorkshire tea decaf is delicious - I can't tell the difference and I hate other decaf teas!

KnittedCardi · 26/07/2024 14:01

I would be more worried about the lack of protein. What are you doing to supplement the lack of meat, fish or eggs? Do you eat dairy??

You can have tea and coffee in moderation. Hot chocolate??

blueberrycherubandbump · 26/07/2024 14:03

Bedtime tea from Yorkshire. Hint of vanilla

DaveWatts · 26/07/2024 14:03

Hibiscus tea is lovely hot or cold

joligood · 26/07/2024 14:30

I drank green tea and mint tea, sometimes even a cup of hot water because cold water was too cold. Cup of soup, hot chocolate.
I had one coffee first thing and herbal tea after.

This, as well as missing out on a whole host of nutrients.

Caffeine isn’t the devil, it’s fine in moderation. I still have one coffee a day and I also have decaf. Hot chocolates are nice too!

You can have a perfectly healthy pregnancy without meat, fish or eggs. And that wasn’t what OP was asking for advice on.

Devilsmommy · 26/07/2024 15:49

@showersandflowers I drank my normal daily amount which is minimum 20 teas or coffees a day. Got a healthy toddler now so I'd just remember you are allowed some caffeine if you enjoy a cuppa or a coffee 😊

Peonies12 · 26/07/2024 16:40

sounds very hard to get sufficient nutrients without eating meat, fish and eggs. I hope you’re not swapping with those ultra processed substitutes. I have one coffee a day, and then Rooibos or peppermint. I’m also having raspberry leaf from 32 weeks. Read ‘expecting better’ book, there’s no real evidence that moderate caffeine does any harm

Surgarblossom · 26/07/2024 16:41

I drank peppermint

Bluesea14 · 26/07/2024 16:46

You can still enjoy a tea or coffee each day! 9 months is a long time to deprive yourself of something you enjoy. X

thefamous5 · 26/07/2024 17:00

Tea and coffee

User79853257976 · 26/07/2024 19:41

Decaf tea mostly.

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 26/07/2024 19:45

I could not even bear the smell of tea or coffee never mind drink them, during pregnancy. I drank peppermint, herbal and fruit teas (like berry; or lemon and ginger, with grated fresh ginger as well).

I really craved lemonade though!

jazzyBBBB · 26/07/2024 19:53

I had same amount of tea and coffee but loads of Starbucks hot chocolate as I got a discount where I worked and figured I needed the calcium. Incidentally my friend was a Starbucks manager and drank espressos and all manner of caffeine throughout!

I am vegan and have been through both my very healthy pregnancies and breast feeding my DD for 2 years. Never had a nutrient deficiency or any other issues.
