I'm a nervous Nelly so don't want to drink caffeine (I already don't drink, smoke, eat meat, fish or eggs so really giving up caffeine will be a very small sacrifice).

What did you drink if you were in the same situation? Love some redbush and any other suggestions? Not really into decaf tea or coffee.

I just stocked up with a variety of herbal teas from Bird & Blend Tea UK. But later I read I can't have peppermint during 1rst trimester :/

I had low iron and was told to avoid tea for that. Had gestational diabetes and avoided all things sweet.

Hot water with a lemon was my go to, and it was delicious!

I drank decaf tea and also peppermint tea, chai latte and lemon & ginger tea

Went completely off tea and coffee. Used to make hot dilute sugar free cordial, and got some herbal teas.

With DD I was like you and avoided caffeine, substituted for Taylor’s decaf for hot squashes. This time round I’m juggling pregnancy with a toddler and work so I’m savouring my one coffee a day 😄

I don't drink coffee and pre pregnancy was drinking one decaf black tea a day and maybe 2 cups of chai a week. I'm in the middle of the food aversion hell so I've gone off a lot of tastes now tbh. Hot water with lemon or ginger I've found has really helped the nausea.

I've enjoyed the odd chai latte while just on holiday and can sometimes stomach some of the herbal fruit tea I usually love as long as it's not sweetened. I'm avoiding hibiscus and raspberry leaf until later pregnancy, my midwife said it should be okay in moderation but I haven't felt like I wanted it enough to risk it. Love hot chocolate as well when I can stomach the sugar.

I agree with PP as well, I've been reading Expecting Better and apparently the warnings on caffeine are very over-cautious.

Was literally sick if I even smelled tea or coffee when pregnant.
I drank only cold drinks- water, squash, Diet Coke.

Slightly random (and not pregnant) but I love marigold bouillon as a hot drink! Also the oatly barista, sometimes I add a flavoured syrup to it
And hot ribena or vimto

scoobiedew · 27/07/2024 02:16

My usual americano every morning.

And the occasional herbal tea in the evenings.

Snugglemonkey · 27/07/2024 03:04

Peppermint tea and room temperature water.

Edingril · 27/07/2024 03:14

I had one normal coffee a day and then one decaf

CheeseWisely · 27/07/2024 03:30

Coffee, but I also bought myself a Velvetiser for hot chocolate.

@KnittedCardi yes, protein isn't an issue! Haven't had meat fish or eggs in 26 years or during previous pregnancy. I eat a lot of lentils, beans, tofu, etc. I always said if I became pregnant I'd eat meat but then when I actually did it really wasn't a problem 🤷‍♀️ I think k my body has adjusted well to it.

I'm still having a normal coffee a day as frankly I won't function otherwise with the pregnancy fatigue on top. Then decaf coffee replacing the normal second coffee, and I have some decaf black tea for if I want something else. I have some ovaltine/horlicks type stuff which has been a nice occasional night drink when struggling to sleep or before bed.

I've been steering clear of herbal teas as a lot of them contain hibiscus or blackberry leaf, which both make me a bit nervous as ingredients. I personally can't stand redbush - I tried a flavoured one but still not a convert.

I still drank coffee although no where near as much, maybe one in the morning and one in the evening? That was it really, I’m more of a cold drink drinker so really enjoyed the cold infusion tea bags and also an ice cold tonic water.

AddictedToBooks · 28/07/2024 17:40

I drank tea
