I have no idea why I'm posting I know there's no clear answer but to wait .... But ...

I'm 8 weeks postpartum, I have my 4th beautiful girl after a miscarriage at 12 weeks last year. I'm 39 years old and have hypertension and decided I've had enough of putting crap in my body so we decided to avoid ovulation time and use pull out method ..which I know that isn't fool proof...but at least avoiding ovulation I thought I'd be ok...

So I had my first cycle and I thought I'd ovulated, we dtd and my husband finished inside his excuse was it happened so fast n he forgot to pull out... Fast forward to the next day I start cramping so I do an opk and low n behold it's peak so I ovulated 2 days after dtd....

What's my chances of catching that egg? Crapping myself after a really hard pregnancy and failed induction that ended in a c section 😫

Have you taken the morning after pill?

Mrsttcno1 · 13/06/2024 16:22

Hi OP, honestly your chances are pretty high. Sperm lives inside you for up to 5 days so you’d have time it perfectly for someone trying to conceive, plus the fact you’re extra fertile after having a baby supposedly. I feel for you, I’m 8 weeks postpartum myself and although I’d love another baby one day the thought of going through it all again right now is terrifying!

I read somewhere that you only have a 20% chance of conceiving each cycle even if actively TTC, so hopefully you'll be fine OP. I would be raging at my DH in your shoes though. Massive violation on his part.

TheShellBeach · 13/06/2024 16:30

It's too late for the MAP if you've ovulated.

I'd be furious with my husband if he did that, but why were you both relying on him pulling out anyway?

Are you breastfeeding? That generally stops ovulation in the early days, but if you've had one cycle, and you're sure that you ovulated, I assume you're bottle feeding.

None of which is helpful, sorry! Would you have a TOP?

You're also extra fertile after giving birth. Why on earth aren't you using condoms!!

No it’s not too late, as it can stop implantation. OP I’d honestly go and get MAP tonight if you can.

Chances are high after birth
If you don't catch this time, get a pack of condoms!

The MAP won't work if you have already ovulated as it delays ovulation.

TheShellBeach · 13/06/2024 19:13

The MAP doesn't stop implantation. It can delay ovulation. So it's too late for the OP.

TheShellBeach · 13/06/2024 19:15

Since the morning after pill works by delaying ovulation, if you’ve already ovulated the morning after pill won’t stop you conceiving. It won’t terminate a fertilised egg or prevent it from implanting.

Fontainebleau007 · 13/06/2024 19:18

No it doesn't stop implantation, it's to do with delaying ovulation.

Ring your local family planning clinic urgently tomorrow morning. The most effective form of emergency contraception is an IUD but it need to be inserted within 5 days so you have until Saturday morning

Kellyaust · 13/06/2024 19:28

Gosh so map won't work. I can't have an IUD due to having one when I was 21 and it pierced my cervix and caused an infection and left me with lots of scarring 🤦‍♀️ I guess all I can do is hope

Condoms exist you know. I would have refused to dtd without contraception if I didn’t want another baby.
