Weird pregnancy sickness triggers!

Hey everyone!

I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. My morning sickness has thankfully been manageable, I’ve always had a strong stomach but, the one thing that truly gets me close to the point of no return is… sneezing. Nothing else has got me quite so close and it got me wondering, am I the only one? Or do others out there also have weird triggers like this? So, I’m asking, please fill my curiosity, does anyone else have a weird trigger they can share?

Thanks!

Mine were brushing my teeth (probably not that weird) and the fact that my cupboards smelt....cupboardy 🤣

Malarandras · 25/03/2024 21:27

Bananas did it for me. I can’t look at one nowadays without thinking about how sick they made me!

The smell of washing detergent/the cleaning and laundry aisle of the supermarket 🤢🤢

HippyChickMama · 25/03/2024 21:44

The smell of my hair straighteners heating up when pregnant with ds. I spent the entire pregnancy with very frizzy hair. Bananas with dd, I couldn't walk down the aisle they were in at the supermarket

My fridge smelled fridgey 🤮

Training at work where there were talking about belly buttons 🤢

I was once sick at the sight of frozen spinach in my freezer.

And I was convinced that my dog's bed smelt like beef. Made me feel awful. It had to go!

I dunno but I had morning sickness really bad around the same time Royals-by Lordes song was out and if I hear it now I literally feel sick and I think it is because I associate it with morning sickness almost 13 years ago

Bagofweasels · 25/03/2024 22:16

With DD2 I had a dress that I wore a lot in early pregnancy and it had quite a ‘busy’ pattern which made me feel sick 😆 I found even when I wore it again after having her it still made me nauseous I think by then it was more remembering the morning sickness rather than the pattern itself but it had to go on eBay!

A ring tone. My FIL gave me an old mobile of his as mine had broken. It had an older style of ringtone on it that wasn't an actual song but a sort of digital version of it, if you get me.

Anyway one of the tones (I think it was a Little Mix song) was set as the alarm tone. So every week day when my alarm went off, this tone would play, and as soon as i woke up the morning sickness would kick in. After a few weeks of this, every time I heard that tone (I used the alarm as reminders throughout the day) I'd instantly feel sick! I had to change it to a bog standard tone in the end!

Looking into a plug hole when I was brushing my teeth or doing the dishes.

The Smell of Fridge.

Bali200 · 25/03/2024 22:27

For me it was the smell of grease. Any time I opened the oven door 🤢

amidsummernightsdream · 25/03/2024 22:36

Sounds crazy but aside from the usual, looking at my pyjamas and certain jumpers made me feel sick, absolutely no idea why!

mumpenalty · 25/03/2024 22:41

Not me but I met someone at a pregnancy class who had HG and it was triggered by so many things including water - and not just drinking it but even just being in the shower. She’d been hospitalised and really quite poorly, I felt for her so much!

mumpenalty · 25/03/2024 22:43

For me it was courgettes, I couldn’t even look at one without gagging, which was unfortunate as we’d grown some absolute whoppers on our allotment and I had to give them away or chuck them and I couldn’t even go to the patch where they grew. Took me two years to eat one again and they used to be my favourite!

Butchers for me🤢.......mine are all in their 30s but my stomach can still lurch if I go in a butchers and smell raw meat, even thinking about it brings back the smell and feeling now🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Couggstar123 · 26/03/2024 03:34

I couldn’t look at a glass of water for weeks. I lived on sprite and even the thought of tap water would send me. It was almost a phobia at one point.

MariaVT65 · 26/03/2024 03:39

Omg yes.

Needing to sneeze (then sneezing itself would relief it)

Clean washing that had been dried outside

Reading books to my toddler

Bathing my toddler

Smell of nursery

Sitting in back seat of car

FUBAR77 · 26/03/2024 05:27

Early pregnancy the air outside - literally fresh air - smelt like egg shell and made me so nauseous

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 26/03/2024 06:45

Most things atm, but my weirdest one is the Benson Boone 'I want you I need you oh god' song that's continously played on tiktok. I've been having to watch tiktok on mute 😫

I can't stand the smell of my heating being on 😅

With my first pregnancy I couldn't stand anything to do with tongues. I can't remember what my husband was watching one day but it had a character whose tongue was stuck out hanging down by his chin constantly and I just... had to leave the room lol

So many things. I had really bad pregnancy sickness and even now 12 years later there are some things that make me instantly nauseous. My MIL has changed the washing powder she uses as that was such a trigger. Water, including getting in the shower…I was sick down that plug hole every morning for months.

I feel the need to sneeze and panic because it's the act of sneezing that sends me lol

Water with my first. I lived on full fat coke and ice pops! The thought of it 🤢 I also couldn't stand synthetic smells like scented candles, shampoo etc. I had to buy kids fruity shampoo, mint hand soap etc.
