Weird pregnancy sickness triggers!

Hey everyone!

I’m currently 9 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. My morning sickness has thankfully been manageable, I’ve always had a strong stomach but, the one thing that truly gets me close to the point of no return is… sneezing. Nothing else has got me quite so close and it got me wondering, am I the only one? Or do others out there also have weird triggers like this? So, I’m asking, please fill my curiosity, does anyone else have a weird trigger they can share?

Thanks!

My kids are in their 30s now, but Tiffany's 'I think we're alone now' still makes me feel nauseous, not great when it's been used on an ad recently. The smell of Lilt too, can't bear it even now.

Tupperware - in particular one with leftover steak and mashed rutabaga. I couldn't smell anything in it but the sight of it made me throw up.

That and one particular roundabout for some reason. As soon as I saw it I'd throw up.

Romantic / sex scenes on tv literally made me want to puke when I was pregnant.

Also, being remotely warm - had to have all the windows open in November lol

With DD2 I had a dress that I wore a lot in early pregnancy and it had quite a ‘busy’ pattern which made me feel sick 😆 I found even when I wore it again after having her it still made me nauseous I think by then it was more remembering the morning sickness rather than the pattern itself but it had to go on eBay!

This has reminded me, I bought a coat when I was pregnant with dd, like a duffle coat but made of jersey material. I had to donate it to charity as it made me nauseous. I'd totally forgotten about that. Some smells that turned my stomach during my pregnancies I still can't bear now and my youngest is 10. The worst ones are vanilla air freshener, CK Euphoria and Paco Rabanne XS Black 🤮

Feta. And the word feta. My work canteen goes through phases of using a certain food in almost all their dishes. Dairy in general made me feel so ill through both pregnancies but feta in particular was a problem, as was reading the canteen menus. My poor colleagues fortunately saw the funny side as I started retching at the mere mention of the devil food (back to loving it again now)

Washing my face, specifically around my nose.

The smell of a particular bush near my house (I googled and discovered it's poisonous, so well done body for warning cavewoman me off eating it 😂)

The smell of supermarkets - I couldn't do a food shop my whole pregnancy.

The fridge.

A lot of my nausea was triggered by smells, so the only places I was really 'safe' was my bedroom - well away from the kitchen - and my work's office so long as I avoided the kitchen, as we're not allowed to eat at our desks.

The smell of something cooking in the Oven or Airfryer

Strangely even the weather - dull, not sunny but not too cold either. Reminds me of when my sickness was at it's worst and i'd be attending my appts hoping the breeze would make me feel better. Weird lol

Radiators and poor DH

steam of any sort (boiling water, shower, cant even think about having tea or coffee)
smell of soap (every time after having a shower I was smelling to soapy)
needing to go number 2 (at least I knew if I'm feeling super sick I really need to go now)
one of my dogs being to close, his smell is still killing me(24w) even thought before pregnancy it was fine

Uncooperativefingers · 28/03/2024 19:21

Cups of tea :( I usually drink so much strong tea, with only a tiny splash of milk, but it all just tastes of watery hot milk now and makes me so nauseous.

I don't really like coffee, squash and fizzy drinks. So my current drink choices are hot water or room temp water or fridge water. Exciting times!

The smell of Pret A Manger shops/food for me. I could smell them before I saw them, as I was living in central London at the time. Remember one lunch everyone on my desk pod was eating Pret, before I had told anyone about my pregnancy. I thought I was going to pass out it made me so sick. Stopped the day she was born. So weird!

edgeware · 28/03/2024 19:41

The smell of anything plastic - and the idea of iron-on plastic on clothing, especially if it looks bad quality. I still feel sick if I look at some of my kids t shirts (still pregnant though)

Thriving30 · 30/03/2024 18:28

White bread.
The floury bread rolls, the yeasty smell. Don't know why. Everything about them.

SantasRubiksCube · 30/03/2024 21:10

My sense of smell has really heightened this pregnancy, DH got one of those large tubs of flora buttery and it makes me feel sick when I have to use it cos I can strongly smell that greasy margarine smell 🤢 also I enjoy eating sausages but I feel like the smell lingers in the house for days after no matter what I do, DH says he can't smell anything but it's awful. Also brushing my teeth makes me gag but I think that's a common one. There's a Soap and Glory bubble bath I used to love but now I can't stand as the smell reminds me of having HG with DD1, even just thinking about what the bottle looks like makes me feel nauseous

BEL88 · 30/03/2024 21:13

Hair in my mouth! I sneezed in some hair once and then was immediately sick after it too 😂

hjrl · 30/03/2024 21:15

This is ridiculous Blushcebebbies down on the farm music at teatime. Three years later I cannot hear it, I live on a farm, I am a farmer. Just bizarre. Kids can only watch it if I'm not there

MagentaMushrooms · 30/03/2024 21:25

Same as you OP! My first pregnancy I hardly had any sickness but with my second sneezing made me wretch, as did coughing - I couldn't so much as clear my throat without nearly hurling for weeks!
