Hi,

I have a private scan booked for next Friday 1st March. I will be 8 weeks and 2 days at that point. I was just wondering if anyone else had a private scan and what was your experience?

I'm terrified to say the least I've seen so many things about MMC etc that now I'm worried I'm going to go in there and not see anything or it just be bad news 😞 I'm so nervous already but feel like a private scan is best for me as I have a lot of anxiety surrounding pregnancy due to a previous loss x

As both my pregnancies were IVF I had an early viability scan via the NHS, both vaginal ultrasound. The first one didn’t end well as heartbeat was not detected at 8+1 but I had a feeling that would be the outcome as I lost any symptoms I had a few days before. Although expected it really didn’t make it any easier to deal with.
The second pregnancy scan was booked for 8+2 and the anxiety and stress was unreal after the earlier scan. I decided to pay for a private scan at 6+6 which showed a perfect little heartbeat.
Even though I’d seen the heartbeat the NHS viability scan was no easier and I was crying walking into the room thinking the worst again. There I seen my little gummy bear with a strong heartbeat, each scan after that has been stressful as no matter how excited and hard you try to relax you can’t help but think the worse.
Im almost 35 weeks pregnant and next weeks 36 week scan will still cause me a sleepless night before it.
Wishing you all the best on your pregnancy :) x

I'm sorry for your previous loss. Congratulations on your current pregnancy! Scan anxiety is just such a big thing for me I've already convinced myself something bad will happen but that's just because of my previous loss. Thankyou, wishing you all the best x

Early scans can be useful to reassure earlier, however if you're understandably anxious the relief doesn't last long so they aren't always the answer. I say this as someone who had an IVF pregnancy and must have spent nearly a grand on private scans before 12 weeks. They called my worries for a day or two but then I'd start worrying again and have another two weeks later. Wish I'd just enjoyed oregnanct more but easier said than done. Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Once a heartbeat is seen, a miscarriage is very unlikely - not impossible of course, but the risk is much lower. I had scans at about 8 weeks on all three of my pregnancies. The first and last were very reassuring, the second was a MMC but I was glad to find out early and have the surgery etc done and out of the way.

I know I'll only feel relived in that moment, it's so hard to enjoy pregnancy after loss my mind is just all over the place. I think I'll only have this one scan though as they are so expensive, I just need to try and think what will be will be but I'm also too scared to think like that. Thankyou! Xx

How much did everyone pay for their scans? We're booked at window to the womb and it's only £70. Worried now it won't be any good!

We had an external scan with them at 10 weeks and were brilliant but I did read it can vary between branches.

Their Google reviews are really good! Just nervous as it's so cheap and not nhs.

@Sara1988 mine is also booked with window to the womb. I also used it whilst they had an offer on at the minute which the viability scan was £67 I paid. Usually I'm sure they are closer to £100, I read all the reviews on my local branch and they all seem really positive! x
