Private Scan at 8 Weeks

Hi,

I have a private scan booked for next Friday 1st March. I will be 8 weeks and 2 days at that point. I was just wondering if anyone else had a private scan and what was your experience?

I'm terrified to say the least I've seen so many things about MMC etc that now I'm worried I'm going to go in there and not see anything or it just be bad news 😞 I'm so nervous already but feel like a private scan is best for me as I have a lot of anxiety surrounding pregnancy due to a previous loss x

Congrats on your pregnancy! Hope you are feeling OK. I too was really worried about MMC as my SIL had had one, so had a private scan at 7 weeks and all was well. I then had some bleeding at 9 weeks so had another, all still well. That embryo is now a 20mo toddler and an utter delight. I worried a lot about miscarriage, and had to remind myself that every single person I saw was the result of a successful pregnancy. I'm sorry about your previous pregnancy loss, it must be so hard to be pregnant again after that. Wishing you all the best.

I had one around that time too. It had to be internal as they couldn't really see via ultrasound. To me, the scan showed a tiny 'blob' and heartbeat all where it should be. It's too early to make anything much out or to see anomalies or even a foetus shape but definitely will confirm all where it should be and approximate due date.

Good luck x

IVF pregnancy here I had a 6 week viability scan as previously had a blighted ovum (empty sack) and then had an 8 week scan as I was so nervous it had stopped developing. It was very nerve wracking and I hated the stress before but seeing the wriggly little blob on the screen was worth it. It didn't completely take the anxiety away but was definitely a great reassurance for me and I would do it again. We had a 16 week gender scan aswell but that's it for private scans now!

lioneggs · 19/02/2024 20:11

Congratulations! I had a scan at 7 weeks and it was internal, could see a little bean with a little HB. This pregnancy I had a scan at 8 weeks and it was an ultrasound and could see an actual baby shape!

HolyMoly24 · 19/02/2024 20:13

I had a private scan at 8+2 with my first. It basically looked like a kidney bean in a black hole! But it's lovely to see a little heartbeat flickering away and did give me a lot of reassurance.

I think everyone feels anxious about MMC etc but I just try to remind myself that the odds are actually in my favour for a successful outcome.

Hey, I'm having mine next Tuesday at 7w3d. Will update you on the process!

Rosesanddaisies1 · 19/02/2024 20:28

Go in with zero expectations, that’s what I always do. And do remember it’s only reassuring in those few mins. Just be careful of false hope.

Hiddenvoice · 19/02/2024 21:08

I had a scan at 8 weeks, they offered to do a stomach one before internal which I was surprised an I was expecting a transvaginal. I was able to see a little
kidney bean moving around and a little flicker of heart beat.
Hope it all goes well for you! It’s okay to be nervous, even at 35 weeks with my second baby, I’m still nervous going in for my growth scans.

Lucylu98 · 19/02/2024 21:17

I have my first scan next Tuesday ( 8 weeks ) also and feeling the same , you are not alone 💐

Thankyou! I think I'm just scared given my previous loss so in my head I'm just automatically assuming the worst, but let's hope all goes okay! X

Aw fab Thankyou! I know I won't see a great deal but I do kinda just want the re assurance things are okay even though I guess things could change even after that scan. It's such a worrying time x

That's true! I think because of a loss before I automatically assume it's going to happen again even though I know it's not always the case. Fingers crossed everything goes okay x

I wouldn't go for an early scan again, it gave me false reassurance as I lost the baby a lot later on.

Lucylu98 · 19/02/2024 21:29

Yes huge congratulations @Jadelr & @Sara1988 - good luck for next week , sending all the positive thoughts and wishes !

ttcttc · 19/02/2024 21:30

I had an early scan as I'd had a previous miscarriage. It was just a blob really but it calmed me down a little to confirm there was a heartbeat. Private scan predicted 31st October, nhs predicted 21st and he arrived (albeit after a 3 day labour) by c section on the back 28th so they were closest!

Wanderingthroughparenthood · 20/02/2024 07:44

Here is my 8+2 scan from Sunday :)

Private Scan at 8 Weeks
SH998 · 20/02/2024 11:55

As both my pregnancies were IVF I had an early viability scan via the NHS, both vaginal ultrasound. The first one didn’t end well as heartbeat was not detected at 8+1 but I had a feeling that would be the outcome as I lost any symptoms I had a few days before. Although expected it really didn’t make it any easier to deal with.
The second pregnancy scan was booked for 8+2 and the anxiety and stress was unreal after the earlier scan. I decided to pay for a private scan at 6+6 which showed a perfect little heartbeat.
Even though I’d seen the heartbeat the NHS viability scan was no easier and I was crying walking into the room thinking the worst again. There I seen my little gummy bear with a strong heartbeat, each scan after that has been stressful as no matter how excited and hard you try to relax you can’t help but think the worse.
Im almost 35 weeks pregnant and next weeks 36 week scan will still cause me a sleepless night before it.
Wishing you all the best on your pregnancy :) x
