Scan today at 6weeks no yolk

According to last period date i am 6weeks and 5 days. i am not sure if i should be using my ovulation date instead

Had a transvaginal scan yesterday and this is what it showed.

i cannot see a yolk sac? There is a little spec on the left picture, is that the yolk?

What did they say at your scan? The left one does look like a yolk sac. Did they say there was nothing inside? What was the reason for the scan?

What did they say, have they taken bloods?

They said everything looked fine, I didn’t know what to look for or ask. It was only when i got home I realised that i should see a yolk sac at this stage and was wandering why they didnt mention anything at the scan

No bloods yet, they said this would be done at 12 weeks. Still waiting for my first midwife appointment.

To be honest it does look like there is a yolk sac there, but obviously I'm not qualified in that area!

Was it with a private scan?

I meant bloods to show pregnancy levels. If they said it’s fine, then it is!! If it wasn’t they would have referred you for bloods. Honestly, these people are experts so believe them!!

Hope so. It was done at the hospital as originally it was an appointment for infertility but in that time i fell pregnant

If they said everything is fine then I would go with that. Keep eating healthy and taking vitamins and hoping for the best.

Yep bloods just showed high HCG levels, GP just mentioned to wait for midwife

Just had a call from the hospital and the have asked for me to come for a rescan next Thursday. They said nothing to worry about this is just normal hospital protocol.

Is this normal? Now i am getting very worried

Yes it is routine to rescan in 1-2 weeks if it's too early to see the heartbeat at the first scan.

They can tell v early if there is no yolk sac etc. I know because it happened to me. If they say it’s fine, it’s fine. Congratulations OP.

Your ovulation date will be much more accurate than your last period date. I would guess your ovulation date makes you 5w+2 there or thereabouts?

Remember that 1dpo = 2w0d (not 2w1d!). If you use that, then how many weeks are you today?

Not sure what you mean, my ovulation date was 22/1/24

Ok, so that would make you 5w3d rather than 6w5d.

In which case it is entirely normal to be able to see the yolk sac as in your first picture, but not yet be able to see the fetal pole (the tiny embryo!). It’s quite unusual to see much before six weeks. I wouldn’t be worried by them calling you in next Thursday - I am going to predict that by then (6w2d corrected for your ovulation date), you will be able to see a fetal pole.

So just relax for now and do keep us updated next week x

Ok thanks that’s reassuring. Its strange as the when the nurse done the scan she checked the measurements and said i am 6 weeks based on measurements so bit confused.

Just an update. Went for another scan today and can finally see fetal pole and saw a heartbeat!

Was so anxious for the last week but seeing it on the screen made everything so much better.

Oh that's wonderful, I am so pleased for you! Did the sonographer mention the length (crown rump length/CRL) of the fetal pole, or give any indication of dating? Wonderful news, thank you for updating!
