Hi, yes I found out last week! I’m now 5 weeks. It’s my first pregnancy.
I’m having major cramps; like period pains daily. Bloating and lots of burping. Was very breathless until today. Was nauseous some mornings but nothing major.
I have no clue what to expect as all new to me. Crazy that I won’t see anyone until after 8 weeks. Like who do you ask questions to?!

UrsulaSings123 · 24/01/2024 21:05

I will be 5 weeks on Saturday. Second baby my son is nearly 3 1/2. This baby is due the month he starts school 😬

Rainbow20234 · 24/01/2024 21:08

@Samwins aww this is my second so feel free to ask away 😂. With my little girl I had terrible sickness at this point I'm hoping this time round the nausea might not be so bad! I hope your feeling well!x

@UrsulaSings123 congratulations! This is also my second my little girl has just turned 5! I'm also due in September. Do you think it will make things easier with them being in school?x

I hope so! I would have been working and the childminder was going to pick him up from school until 5pm when I finish, but am thinking I will be able to pick him up now.

Rainbow20234 · 24/01/2024 21:21

@UrsulaSings123 Well that works out well then Smile! I'm thinking of going down the child minder root with baby number 2. They seem more flexible around working hours.

Thank you! That’s really kind and helpful. I’m doing ok, just anxious rather than excited. Especially as I’m a bit older at 40 and having my first. Don’t know what’s normal so keep googling. My biggest worry is miscarriage but trying to stay positive.
apart from what feels like intense period pains at times I’m going ok 👌 hope you are too.

I really worry about miscarriage too, I think its normal. I look at the 'miscarriage probability chart' and it helps me feel better each day. Don't know if it would help you.

Rainbow20234 · 25/01/2024 16:26

Aww yeah I feel the same it's a totally normal feeling. I keep doing tests too I need to stop. I booked a early pregnancy scan for next week Smile. Last time round I was scanned and monitored from 6weeks but not seeing anyone until 8weeks this time round.

OP posts:
UrsulaSings123 · 25/01/2024 22:21

Do you see anything at 6 weeks? I'd be worried I wouldn't see much and then that would make me worry more. Why were you monitored so early on?

UrsulaSings123 · 25/01/2024 22:22

I had a scan at 8 weeks last time and doing the same this time. Should be a heartbeat by then.

Rainbow20234 · 25/01/2024 22:26

I think they check the baby is in the right place and they can measure and check you are as many weeks as you think. I'm not 100% sure but I think from 6-8weeks they can see a heart beat too sometimes.

I was monitored because I have 2 wombs and 2 cervix's 😂 very strange one haha. So they wanted to check which womb baby is in and with this you can have early labour and things but I carried my DD to 39 weeks and had a pretty normal birth apart from my contractions not showing very well on the monitor xxx

OP posts:
UrsulaSings123 · 25/01/2024 22:35

Oh wow 2 wombs! I heard about that in the news recently, a woman having twins in one womb and a single pregnancy in the other at the same time!

Rainbow20234 · 26/01/2024 13:25

Oh wow really! I think I'd faint with shock if I was told I was having 3 babies 😂

Samwins · 27/01/2024 17:08

It did help actually! The percentage of everything going well is so much higher ☺️ thanks for the reassurance.

im a bit anxious as having severe pain once a day on my left side. Makes me feel sick and need to lie down. Almost like contraction pain then goes after 15mins. Tried 111 and told not to worry but freaking me out it might be ectopic

Rainbow20234 · 27/01/2024 22:02

Aww I am also having cramps and they make me jump! I had this with my DD aswell in my first trimester I hope this helps ❤️ but I get the worry. I hope they settle soon for you.

Still no sickness so far this time though. Are any of youse having nausea yet? xx

OP posts:
Samwins · 27/01/2024 22:36

Yes definitely cramps but I’ve had 4 days of about 15 mins where I am wincing and in agony. Have to lie in bed until it passes. Then it just goes. Weird!

felt nauseous last week but nothing this week, no sickness thankfully! Just very sleepy 🥱 x

Lillers · 28/01/2024 11:22

Hi can I jump in on your thread? I’m about 5 weeks with Baby #1. I found out just over a week ago and am so anxious about things going wrong! When I told the HR lady at work, I said I was worried, and she said (very matter-of-fact): “Of course things can go wrong, but they can also go right, and that is much more likely.” I honestly think I just needed someone to say that out loud!

Samwins · 28/01/2024 11:48

Hi, congratulations ☺️you sound a worrier like me! It’s all very new and we don’t know what’s normal. It’s strange that there are no medical professionals to speak to before 6-8 weeks. Just got to get on with it. The percentage chart above helped me to see the likelihood of things going right. It’s also my first and I’m older at 40 so feel very unsure as know risks increase. Also know many ladies in their 40’s who have had healthy children

Lillers · 28/01/2024 15:49

Thank you! I’m not normally a big worrier, but then I’m normally in control and this is something I have very little control over, which I think is where the anxiety is coming from. I’m 36, so also an older first time mum and it does feel strange that there are no appointments for ages. My first appointment will be on 22nd Feb which feels ages away!
I’m getting a few cramps which feel just like period pain, and a have been a bit queasy but not actually sick yet. Hoping to keep that at bay for as long as possible - the cleaning products they use in the toilets at work are really strong-smelling to me and the thought of having to breathe them in while vomiting is really not appealing!

Samwins · 28/01/2024 17:30

Yes I know what you mean! I am a control freak and this just feels too weird.
i was really nauseous last week, heaved brushing my teeth and swallowing tablets. Certain scents are very strong like you say. But better this week but now i have sore boobs. All fun 🤩
that’s good they’ve booked you an appointment, I was told I couldn’t even make one until post 6 weeks so will call mid week. Not even sure who I call about these pains?! Just scared they’re due to ectopic as it’s all so new

Samwins · 30/01/2024 19:29

So my gp sent me to the early pregnancy assessment unit today due to pain in left side. Very painful and in the same spot. They’d prepared me for ectopic and so I’d done a lot of reading/freaking myself out. Had an internal scan and all is well. Although only 2mm there was a heartbeat! Crazy but reassuring. Feels more real now.

how are you all doing?

Rainbow20234 · 30/01/2024 19:32

Aww @Samwins I'm so glad everything was ok and this has given you reassurance!

I'm doing well still having mild cramps but that's all. Still no nausea!! I have a scan Friday. Did they tell you how far along you are? xxx

Wow that's amazing! I remember the first time I saw my sons heartbeat at the 8 week scan, it was incredible! I've got a scan booked for 8 weeks for this one too.

This time I am worrying so much about the screening tests they do at 12 weeks. My partner has made it clear he would not want to continue with a pregnancy if it is high risk and although I'm still only 35, I was 31 last time so wasn't classed as 'geriatric pregnancy' whereas this time I am. Just want to get past14 weeks then I can relax start worrying about the 20 week scan 😂

Samwins · 30/01/2024 21:08

Thank you! Yes it was very surreal. They said 5-6 weeks along now. I have it as 6 weeks tomorrow. Due date 20th September

the cramps are an annoyance so paracetamol is my friend right now. Also no sickness so far which is great. Glad you’re doing okay x
