Yes it’s so amazing to think something is growing inside you! I’m going back at 8 weeks for another scan.
are you going private?
we talked about this today too, I’m 40 so high risk of conditions. I’m a nurse and care for people with multiple conditions but not sure I could do it for the rest of my life. Guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
when do you find out about Down’s syndrome etc?

Rainbow20234 · 30/01/2024 21:14

Awww it's crazy to see how much they grow between the 8week scan and 12week scan. @Samwins looks like we are due similar times I have calculated the 23rd September x

Yes I'm having a private scan at 8 weeks then will just have the normal nhs scans after that.

They check for markers at the 12 week scan then take that with a blood test to come up with a result. They let you know via letter within a couple weeks of the result, but if it turns out its high risk for downs or other things they call you within 2 days apparently.

Samwins · 30/01/2024 21:56

How lovely!! Fingers crossed all goes well for us all. Not sure how I feel about being swollen and heavy in the peak of the summer 😅 I’m sweaty as it is and I’m not big

Samwins · 30/01/2024 21:57

Ah I see, wondered if different areas offer different things. The unit were kind and said as I’m anxious they’d see me again.

Thank you. helpful to know. I’m sure no matter what I’ll be happy if all progresses well x

Rainbow20234 · 31/01/2024 22:05

Anyone else got this. Not sure if this is a pregnancy symptom or what! With my DD the first trimester I was so tired I could sleep for hours on end!

This time I'm going asleep around 11:30-12 and I'm up and wide awake by 5am. I just don't feel tired... school run done, full day working on 5.5hrs sleep... it's baffling me.

I literally remember coming in from work with whilst pregnant last time and sleeping 7pm-7am without waking once 🙈

my first pregnancy but I don’t feel too tired. Maybe around 3pm but then don’t sleep until about 11. Also wake around 6am, bing I’m wide awake. So not feeling too bad at all. Managing to work etc no issues (apart from severe pain in left side of abdomen.)

UrsulaSings123 · 01/02/2024 18:48

I've been feeling really tired. I also feel HUGE already. I can't fit into my trousers anymore. I honestly don't know why because I've not been eating more than I usually do but I am so bloated and I already feel like I can't 'suck' my tummy in like its affecting my tummy muscles. Genuinely been worrying about twins and shitting myself at the prospect, but I'm sure I don't have anything to worry about as twins don't run in my family!

Samwins · 01/02/2024 22:04

I’m also so bloated and have had to buy leggings in a bigger size. Think it’s all gas as I’m so so burpy.. I thought to myself today, Christmas was the last time I’ll be that Small size 😅

Lillers · 01/02/2024 22:25

My sister messaged me today with a recommendation of peppermint tea for bloat - she says it works like a dream!

UrsulaSings123 · 01/02/2024 22:33

I might try that peppermint tea! Have you told your sister you're pregnant then?

I have told 2 friends and I let it slip to my mum because she was talking about pregnancy stuff (she knew we were trying) and I'm terrible at keeping a straight face!

Trying to keep it under wraps until after the screening comes back OK but not sure if I'll be able to last until then! Also realised we have a holiday booked to paris the week I will be 12 weeks so will have to push my scan back a bit which is a bit annoying but can't complain as I'll be on holiday!

Lillers · 01/02/2024 22:39

@UrsulaSings123 Yep, told her and my mum because I was seeing them the weekend I found out. It was to celebrate Mum’s birthday so it didn’t feel right to lie about why I wasn’t drinking!

Samwins · 01/02/2024 22:49

Yes I’m on the peppermint tea as is a life saver when you also have IBS.
I too have told a couple of people; one friend and my manager. Thinking I’ll tell my mum and brother on the weekend.
my thinking is, if it all goes wrong, who would I want to support me

Samwins · 01/02/2024 22:51

I’m due to go to Berlin end of Feb, I’m nervous. Flying, what if I get unwell when there, what if I have bad sickness etc. will lose all our money if we don’t go so not sure what to do

UrsulaSings123 · 01/02/2024 22:57

Yeah I wondered if I'd feel sick as well but it wasn't too bad with my last pregnancy. My partner got us tickets to the philharmonic to see live some of the music we listened to when I was in labour with my son, which is very special so I wouldn't want to miss out!

UrsulaSings123 · 01/02/2024 22:57

Also if you get travel insurance you will be covered for medical expenses.

Samwins · 01/02/2024 22:58

Aaww that’s really lovely and sure it’ll be absolutely amazing! Let’s hope our stomachs stay well

Samwins · 01/02/2024 22:59

yes got insurance, mainly in case we need to cancel and can then recover some of the money

UrsulaSings123 · 01/02/2024 23:04

Yes that's a good point actually, need to sort out insurance as haven't done it yet!

Hi all, I tested positive last wednesday 24th Jan, digital said 1-2. This is my first pregnancy and I'm anxious as anything, don't know what's normal and it seems the NHS give no support until a later date. Im 34. I have my booking appointment on 28th Feb. I have been having cramping which I read is normal. I also have the smallest amount of brown discharge when I wipe, as in smaller than a 5p piece. It's inside me but barely coming out, apologies for the TMI! Last night I had about 20 mins of intense cramping abit higher up my stomach. I'm also anxious as my test lines aren't getting really dark or progressing. Such an anxious time and feel so alone!

Yes it is an anxious time isn't it! If you have concerns early on you can speak to the maternity team I beleive. In my area there is one number for community midwives so if I had any problems like bleeding or severe pain I would call them. Most areas seem to have an 'early pregnancy assessment unit' (EPAU) which is where you get referred to if there's concerns of an ectopic or something. Sounds pretty normal what you're experiencing though. I got quite a lot of cramping in week 4/5.

Violetbloc · 02/02/2024 23:47

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've had horrendous cramping today and very heavy bleeding. Went to the GP and confirmed its a miscarriage. Obviously going through it alot physically and emotionally. I'll get a call from the EPAU Monday to check if I'm testing negative or will need further assessment.

I’m so sorry to hear your sad news. I don’t think there’s anything I can say to make things feel better for you. Thinking of you x
