When did you first feel baby move?

17 weeks today and I thought I could feel baby flutters earlier on in the week but for the past 2 days I’ve felt nothing. Now, obviously, I’m worried that something has happened to the baby- either the movements have stopped or we’re never there. It’s my first baby so I’m over thinking everything!

20 weeks

reddaise · 21/01/2024 17:42

First baby is was something like 21 weeks, second baby I swear it was as early as 14!!

reddaise · 21/01/2024 17:42

Always felt like a bubbling feeling, a bit like gas!

16 weeks. We were on a spa day and I had a drink of ice old water and he moved and I felt him. Don’t worry about not feeling him again yet I don’t think there’s routine until about the 3rd trimester

Firsttimebabymama · 21/01/2024 17:45

16 weeks. She's my first. :) I've made a friend who's due just 1 day apart from me and she was 20weeks when she first felt hers. So everyone is different. Where the placenta is affects how early you can feel them too

cosylife · 21/01/2024 17:45

15 weeks for me but the advice is to not look for routines in baby’s movements until around 22/24 weeks. Pop your midwife a text/message/call if you’re worried and they can give you the best advice.

Not til about 22/23 weeks, and even then it was only flutters - I had an anterior placenta though. Once that migrated, ds didn't stop moving/kicking, AT ALL 🤯

I didn't know the anterior placenta could migrate!

Did you do anything special to get it to move?

Mammma91 · 21/01/2024 18:00

First baby around 24ish weeks, this time round I think about 21 weeks? But 25 from the outside. You may well have felt little flutters op, it comes and goes until you feel proper kicks in a few weeks. It’ll start to become more consistent in the next week or 2

DuploTrain · 21/01/2024 18:04

About 22 weeks for my first baby.
When you first start feeling them it’s normal to think you feel something and then not feel anything again for a few days/ weeks.
Because they’re so tiny they have lots of space to move and you would only feel them when they’re kicking against the outside. E.g. if they kick towards your insides you wouldn’t feel it.

FizzyStream · 21/01/2024 18:06

About 19 weeks but had anterior placenta.

arlequin · 21/01/2024 18:19

First baby 20 weeks second 13 weeks!

JRTfan · 21/01/2024 19:31

I am 18+1 and haven't felt anything yet apart from maybe a few flutters here and there but that could be wind or my imagination!
Midwife said anything up to 25 weeks is normal and only start tracking movements after 26 weeks.
I have an anterior placenta aswell so not feeling too worried yet. Had a scan at 16 weeks and baby was moving nicely. It's a stressful time between 12 and 20 weeks but guess unless there are causes for concern we have to assume all will be ok.

No, there's usually nothing you need to do, it just moves by itself!

blackpanth · 21/01/2024 23:49

17 weeks first baby
12 weeks second baby

Elphamouche · 22/01/2024 12:33

18 weeks I felt the first flutter, it took me a few days to decide it definitely was that.
23 weeks until DH could feel baby and I actually felt a “kick”. I’m 31 weeks now and the movements are getting stronger and bigger ❤️

Sa11yCinnamon · 22/01/2024 12:46

21 weeks, first baby.

addictedtotheflats · 22/01/2024 12:53

1st 18 weeks, 2nd 15 weeks but only in certain positions and very sporadic

DandelionPockets · 22/01/2024 13:01

About 20 weeks with first. Maybe a little before then but it's so difficult to distinguish from other bodily gurgles!

LizzeyBenett · 22/01/2024 13:22

I'm 18 weeks and still waiting to feel something .

DemelzaRobins · 22/01/2024 13:35

20 weeks, first baby. Am now 21 weeks and it's mostly a subtle feeling, a bit like butterflies when you're nervous.

My obstetrician said it's usually 20-22 weeks for a first baby but up to 24 weeks is not unheard of. He said if I hadn't felt anything by 24 weeks they'd look at having a listen with the doppler, or arrange an extra scan.

GodspeedJune · 22/01/2024 13:47

I think I was 17 weeks and managed to capture some flickers on video at the same time!

BeBeBaby · 11/08/2024 12:23

These replies are so reassuring. I have my 20 week scan coming up and have randomly thought I’ve felt something but then not sure and then felt nothing for more than a day sometimes! All the information says to seek help for reduced movements but that’s hard when the movement is so sporadic and might even be a twitch or gas!

Boxina · 11/08/2024 12:24

About 19 weeks with my first one, I had an anterior placenta.

sel2223 · 11/08/2024 14:24

22/23 weeks with my first but that was with an anterior placenta
