Hi all, 26 and just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant. Recently brought a house with my other half, both in stable jobs and been together over 7 years.

Just curious to know how old were you with your first? Did you experience any judgement?

22, no judgement

DiaNaranja · 15/12/2023 15:48

I was 27, DH was 30. We'd been together since teens at that point, and owned our own home, so nothing really to "judge", but I wouldn't have cared if anyone had! Much wanted baby, and Dd2 came two years later. I always said I wanted to have babies before I was 30, and good job really, as now I'm 37 and constantly feel hanging. Hats off to mum's doing it later in life as I just wouldn't have the energy to do it now. A few hours with my baby nephew wears me out for days! 😄

Congrats OP! Just about to turn 30 here and 32 weeks pregnant :)

Only thing I’ve felt kinda judged for is that me and my pals still have very active social lives in the city. I moved away to the countryside and now I’m pregnant. I worry that they think I’ve made some crazy decision as none of my friends have children, but I think that’s just in my head lol!

arlequin · 15/12/2023 15:52

I was 30 but please please don't worry about this! People are far too busy worrying about their own babies to bother about the age of other mums. Congratulations!

blackfluffycat · 15/12/2023 15:52

I was 26

HeraSyndulla · 15/12/2023 15:57

23 : we’d only just got back from our honeymoon and nobody was more shocked than me. I didn’t know how to break it to my husband but he was delighted and danced me round the kitchen.

Bananalanacake · 15/12/2023 15:57

37, my mum really drilled into me that having a baby was awful and so much hard work I wasn't ready until my mid 30s.

LadyWiddiothethird · 15/12/2023 15:59

I was 30.My Granddaughter had a baby at 25.

SALWARP2023 · 15/12/2023 16:03

25, married 5 years and was buying a house. With hindsight should have waited another few years. I think I was considered a little young back in 1989.

Ashtara10 · 15/12/2023 16:07

16 with first

Then 3 more at 17, 25 and 29

Did it change that quickly in the 80s? My DM was a similar age to friends and family having her first at 23 in the early 80s.

27, seemed old at the time for first baby and classed as a ' elderly primigravida' think average was 24 but then the age of first babies started going up and I was then the average age after a couple of years.
Felt old having a third baby at 38 but now it's not that old
No judgement no

marshmallowfinder · 15/12/2023 16:16
  1. (You surely bought a house, not brought though! You can't bring a house anywhere!)
Suchardchoccy · 15/12/2023 16:17

I was 25 when I had my first and married DH 2 months after she was born, we had only been together for a year!

I wouldn't judge you, you sound like you have everything sorted 😊 I think the younger the better personally, if you can!

You can bring a small pre fab on a truck

Theoldwoman · 15/12/2023 16:23

17, and I’m sure I did but no one said anything to my face.

oop · 15/12/2023 16:25

Pregnant at 28, baby born when I was 29. No judgement, we'd been together for over a decade and married for a few years etc. But we were the first of all our friends (and still none of them have kids 2 years later and we're having another!)

Tulipsroses · 15/12/2023 16:26

19, 23, 28. I was the only mother in the law faculty in uni. It was very hard but I don't regret it one bit.

Yes, good shout, you can! But, that's not what OP meant.

ChildOfTheMoon · 15/12/2023 16:50

Having my first at 38 .
Hell I was judged for starting fertility treatment at 30 as I was deemed too old by friends.
Needless to say , they are no longer my friends. People can judge all they like, I couldn't give a rats ass. People have no right to judge anyone else's life. Live your life how you want, if and when your ready

Emsxox · 15/12/2023 17:37

I was 30 x

WeightoftheWorld · 15/12/2023 17:41

We were both 24 and the only judgement was from my DF who was initially very shocked and upset and consequently very rude and negative.

cakebytheoceon · 15/12/2023 17:45

19 with my first, second at 22 and im now 32 with a two year old too.

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 15/12/2023 17:49

29 - only judgement I am aware of is that I was not married. I'm still not married twenty years later (still with same dp).

Ironically the judgement came from married people who are now divorced Grin

Sparkle88K · 15/12/2023 17:50

34 & no judgement that I know of x
