Hi, feeling a little overwhelmed with sleeping options. If anyone has any recommendations on any of the above for over night sleeping? A next to me crib would be a challenge as our bedroom is oddly shaped and very narrow. Can make amendments to make it work, however seeing alot of pros and cons. Any advice would be truely appriciate for first time Mum. Just feel this is a very important purchase which we don't want to get wrong

I am 18 weeks and we have just bought a moses basket on recommendation from my DM. Apparently that's what she did with me, and it worked well for small spaces.

We went with a Moses basket and a standard cotbed. DD slept in Moses Basket until she was about 12 weeks and we'd just put the whole top inside the cot, she easily transitioned to the big cot so guess we were lucky with that. I personally didn't want all of the outside room of the bed taken up by the next to me cot and thought the big cotbed would last us longer.

We had a next to me for all 3 of ours and none of them slept in it straight away, they just wouldn’t settle even if swaddled, I think it was just too big for them.

Ended up with a Moses basket upstairs and used the pram attachment of the pushchair for naps downstairs (which was handy if they fell asleep and I wanted to go out as a didn’t need to transfer them and risk waking them to leave).

They went into the next to me or a cot bed when they outgrew the Moses basket.

The only thing with a Moses basket is they outgrow it by 3/4 months and then you’d need a next to me or cot for in your room until 6 months.

Moses basket, swaddled. I had a rocking stand in the bedroom & my arm just worked all night (even while I slept!).
And another stand in the lounge so I could just transfer him while still in the basket. It was handy in terms of space.

Moses baskets are handy as they're smaller but they don't last long at all and personally my son hated it. He often startled in his sleep, so threw his arms out. The second his arms hit the sides of the moses basket he was awake crying, we barely slept 😅. I gave in when he got abit long for it at 3 months old and put him in the cot but really wish I had a next to me crib! All babies are different so it's hard to say, I'm going to have a next to me crib this time but I still have my son's moses basket so will just get a new mattress for that just incase!

I'm going to try Moses basket from the get go this time! Had a Next to Me with our first and a Snuzpod with our second which barely got used 🤦🏼‍♀️

Our ds is still in the nexttome and he’s 7 months old, 8 months on Friday. Plus he’s on the 75th percentile for length. That said he’s almost touching both ends so it’s time to change his cot. It’s been used a lot more than a Moses basket would have. We use it with all the sides up.

He used his carrycot for the first 3ish weeks due to being small and it was cosier. Then he moved into thd nexttome at night and the carrycot in the day downstairs. Then at 4 months he outgrew the carrycot so naps moved to being on his playmat.

haribosmarties · 28/11/2023 18:23

The unfortunate thing is that all babies are different.
For my son I just had a cot at first which went badly then I got a next to me which worked really well..
so when i had my daughter i got a next to me again... well she hated it!
In the end it was a moses basket on a rocking stand that worked best for her as a newborn.
What I've done for my 3rd (due in jan) is I got a free next to me off a local parenting group, a second hand rocking cradle, and a free moses basket my friend gave me..
So I've got all options ready and will just pass on whatever she doesn't get on with. And keep whatever works

I’d recommend the chicco air hug 4-in-1 x

Autumn1990 · 28/11/2023 18:30

My first slept in the Moses basket until he was 6 months and was touching both ends. My second didn’t like the Moses basket and slept in the carrycot from the pram. Which was suitable for overnight sleeping.
Its difficult as you don’t know what the baby will like.

Glitterb · 28/11/2023 18:31

A moses basket is unlikely to be used for that long plus a lot of babies don’t like them from experience. My 6 week old sleeps in the next to me swaddled and has always settled well, we also have an awkward shaped room so it isn’t ideal!

Decafflatteplease · 28/11/2023 18:55

We had a next to me in our bedroom and a moses basket for downstairs.

LeafyGreenery · 28/11/2023 19:13

Did a bit of reading and got a next to me type cot for bedroom (there were a few on offer on Black Friday) and a Moses basket for downstairs or for taking to sleep elsewhere.

We had the chico next to me bed for my first and it was too big-our baby never slept well in it. This time we are not going for that - probably a Moses basket or a snuzpod
