Hi all, just found out I am pregnant. I’m 26 and have been with my partner for 8 years, brought a house together and renovated etc.

We are super happy but for some reason I am worried about telling work etc due to my age. Silly I know but I just feel so overwhelmed with emotion at the moment.

I was just curious to know how old you were when you became pregnant with your first child?

I was ten years younger than you lol. You will be alright and congratulations

EspressoMacchiato · 08/11/2023 13:33

21 and not on purpose. THAT was an awkward conversation with just about everyone.

Congratulations OP!!!

Razorcroft · 08/11/2023 13:33

I was 27 which is ‘young’ for my social group. We got married whilst I was pregnant because had always intended to be married first.

GwenGhost · 08/11/2023 13:35

28 and it was planned. 26 is a great age to have kids, especially if you’ve got a great house+job set up already.

mrsjareth · 08/11/2023 13:36

I don't understand why you'd be worrying? 26 isn't young to have your first child.

TokyoSushi · 08/11/2023 13:37

I was 31, I felt like a child and was scared to tell my Mum, because then she'd know that I'd had sex, with my husband, of 2 years!! Grin

26 is absolutely fine, and well 'grown up enough' - congratulations!

IDoNotMoisturise · 08/11/2023 13:37

I had my first at 19, by the time I was 25 I had 3 kids😁

mrsjareth · 08/11/2023 13:38

Forgot to say, I was 19 having my first. I had 3 children by the time I was your age.

SecondUsername4me · 08/11/2023 13:39

I was the same as you OP- 26, been together since 18. Owned our home. We got married when I was pg (planned before pg).

We are now in our 40s with two dc.

Why would your work care what age you are when pregnant?

Nineteendays · 08/11/2023 13:39

What is it about your age that worries you?

I was 26 when I had my first, 29 when I had my second.

sillysarz · 08/11/2023 13:40

I’m not sure either! I think I’m just being silly, I’m so overwhelmed with emotion. I know it’ll pass.

I have found it to be a brilliant age to have your first baby. I’m 10 years on now and wouldn’t change it

chillin12 · 08/11/2023 13:41

28!
Congratulations and good luck!!

MateyBubbleBathlover · 08/11/2023 13:44

I was 26 too! I had a HUGE tantrum when I found out (which was unlike me!) and then suddenly a wave of love and excitement washed over me.

I remember I needed support telling work. but once I did, I felt great.

My main fear was everyone "realising" DH and I were having sex. 😂

10 years later and I'm hooting at myself

TealTeaTowel · 08/11/2023 13:44

I had finished having kids by the time I was 25 as I felt like my family was complete. Your age is average I would think at having children? i doubt anyone will say your too young.
Congratulations 🎉

Tarkan · 08/11/2023 13:44

I had my second at 26. I had the energy for running after two kids then that I wouldn't have now due to various health issues, so I'm glad I had them when I did.

I was my mum's first baby, she was 26 and deemed old for a first time mum, that was in the early 80s and it's interesting how things have changed in 40-odd years.

SapphosRock · 08/11/2023 13:46

Congratulations!

I was 34 when I had my first, it was the right time for me but sounds like you have a great setup.

Having kids in your 20s means more freedom in your 40s Smile

sipsqueak · 08/11/2023 13:47

congratulations OP!

Statistically you might be slightly younger than the average UK woman having her first baby nowadays - but that shouldn't matter to you because everyone's circumstances are different and the only thing that matters is whether it's right for you and your partner.

The LAST thing you should worry about is what anyone at work thinks. Ignoring social judgement is an important part of parenting in my experience! And really, who cares. Don't let your insecurities interfere with your happiness and excitement.

But of course if you experience discrimination at work following your pregnancy announcement obviously don't take that lying down.

Autumcolors · 08/11/2023 13:48

I was 24. Your mid 20s is a great age to have a baby. You have lots of energy. Congratulations.

LadyDanburysHat · 08/11/2023 13:53

I was 25, born when I was 26. Congratulations!

Mercury2702 · 08/11/2023 13:55

I was 19 and I’m now 27 with a 7 year old. Congratulations! I think this age is a great age to have a child. I often think at how much wisdom and life experience I gained since having my son at that age to now but saying that I have no regrets at all. Probably going to wait a few years before having another

DragonFly98 · 08/11/2023 13:58

20 , I had two children by your age.

cocoapple · 08/11/2023 13:58

I was 21 with DS1 and 25 with DS2

CharlotteFlax · 08/11/2023 14:05

I was 26 when I got pregnant and I felt young too. I also remember having just given birth to my baby, and waiting for permission to pick up and feed my child and then realising that actually it was ME that needed to give myself permission to be my baby's mum!

None of my friends had any children for about another ten years either, so it was unusual for my peer group, but it happened and here we are (17 years and another two children later!)

TiaraBoo · 08/11/2023 14:16

I remember feeling terrified and having to tell myself I was 30 and a ‘proper’ adult! 😄
