no linea nigra at 22 weeks

Hi everyone. This is my first post.

I'm 22 weeks pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy; my first ended in an early miscarriage. I've been super anxious for most of this one.

I'm starting to show a small belly, and I think I can feel some movement, but I don't have a linea nigra, and no hyperpigmentation. I read that 80-90% of pregnant women experience this phenomenon, and it's caused by rising estrogen, so now I'm worried that my hormone levels might be low, and baby will stop growing, or something else is wrong with the pregnancy. Looking for information and reassurance - please help!

I've had 2 successful pregnancies and didn't have it in either of them. Some people just don't get it.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 28/10/2023 05:20

I never got it.

MaggieBsBoat · 28/10/2023 05:21

I’ve had 5 successful pregnancies and never had this. Please don’t worry. 🌺

TryAgainWithFeeling · 28/10/2023 05:36

I’ve had two successful pregnancies and not got it.

user1483387154 · 28/10/2023 05:37

I never had it either

TulipsTwoLips · 28/10/2023 05:39

Never had either and my little fella is happily sleeping in his cot as we speak. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 😊

KathrynWheel · 28/10/2023 05:40

There may not be a line nigra with every pregnancy.
I have never been pregnant but had a linea nigra when I was in my 20s/30s

MayMi · 28/10/2023 05:45

Congratulations on your pregnancy 💕

Not everyone gets linea nigra, but especially if you have a pale complexion then you might not get it at all. It doesn't really mean anything whether you get it or not though, so it's not something to worry about.

Allthingsdecember · 28/10/2023 05:48

I’ve had two healthy babies and never had it either.

I know pregnancy can be an incredibly anxious time, but after 12 weeks the odds of something going wrong falls dramatically. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Flowers

Ponderingwindow · 28/10/2023 05:58

The 90% star mentioned above shocks me. I thought this phenomenon was something that was normal, but infrequent. I didn’t have any hint of it.

JamNittyGritty · 28/10/2023 06:01

2 successful pregnancies and didn’t have either of those with either pg

cjfromauckland · 28/10/2023 06:02

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind advice and reassurance - you have no idea what it means to me. I don't have a large social circle, and I've been feeling very isolated through this whole journey. I've always been a little anxious, but it's been so much worse after getting pregnant again. We're having a little boy, and mostly we're very happy!

I did have this but not until I was at least 30 weeks. Hope you are ok. I remember how hard coping with anxiety can be while pregnant. Xx

cjfromauckland · 28/10/2023 06:29

@LeekPeachPlum Thanks - I think I'm going to be okay, and just remember take it one day at a time, but yes it's been super hard, on top of work stress too. My husband is super supportive, but I wish I had more women-friends!

Ive had 2 pregnancies, didnt have it with either. Im very light skinned.

Caspianberg · 28/10/2023 06:34

I never had that either. Do you have light skin? I think it’s more common with dark or tanned skin. Mine is like a ghost, and nada.

Thankyouthankyoujellybean · 28/10/2023 06:35

I definitely had it with one of my pregnancies, but not until much later. I'm nearly 23 weeks and no sign of a line. Be kind to yourself and remember that the scary bit is over now!

As an aside, if you want more female friends, good news! Having kids is a good way to make that happen 🤗

Jelllytot · 28/10/2023 06:35

I am of Asian heritage and I never got one but had a successful pregnancy x

Same.

NorthCliffs · 28/10/2023 06:45

4 babies, no lines!

jadey1991 · 28/10/2023 06:47

33 weeks pregnant and I don't have it this time round. You are OK op. Not everyone gets it. Congratulations on pregnancy and really sorry for your previous loss

Gingercreams · 28/10/2023 07:05

I am willing to bet that nobody in my family has had a linea nigra ever in generations. Never had it in either of my pregnancies and nor did my mother. My father was one of 19 and I never heard of it being a thing!

Flipflopflopflip · 28/10/2023 07:08

Never heard of it so had to Google - never had it!

incognito50me · 28/10/2023 07:29

I never had it - I am pale skinned, but I'm not sure it correlates. No linea nigra, no hyperpigmentation on my face or anywhere else.

Mummy08m · 28/10/2023 07:38

I have had it in both my pregnancies but it started showing later than 22w - I can't remember when exactly but it is showing now at 32w.

(I'm olive skin, mixed race)

Soon you'll start feeling kicks (maybe you've had the odd flutter already?) And that will reassure you the baby is doing OK!
