no linea nigra at 22 weeks

Hi everyone. This is my first post.

I'm 22 weeks pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy; my first ended in an early miscarriage. I've been super anxious for most of this one.

I'm starting to show a small belly, and I think I can feel some movement, but I don't have a linea nigra, and no hyperpigmentation. I read that 80-90% of pregnant women experience this phenomenon, and it's caused by rising estrogen, so now I'm worried that my hormone levels might be low, and baby will stop growing, or something else is wrong with the pregnancy. Looking for information and reassurance - please help!

I did get one but only faint and only near the very end of one pregnancy. Nothing for the second pregnancy. Don't worry op, I've never heard of it being mentioned as an indicator of hormone levels.

It's really hard when your first pregnancy ends in miscarriage. I don't think I believed my second was going to work out until I had an actualy baby in my arms. Remember that miscarriage is very common and doesn't mean that you can't have a successful pregnancy.

SarahLHs · 28/10/2023 07:44

I had it with both of my pregnancies but not until half way through 3rd trimester.

MotherofDogs3 · 28/10/2023 08:16

I got it at 17 weeks but my mum and sister never got it at all. I think it has something to do with skin tone as I'm olive skin and they are both really pale? I definitely wouldn't be concerned about it especially going by all the other PP on here not getting it either 😊

Zoraflora · 28/10/2023 08:20

Ive had three successful pregnancies and had the line with my first but not the others.

Hibiscrubbed · 28/10/2023 08:23

This is unnecessary anxiety. Don’t go looking for things to worry about.

I never had it either, though I noticed a faint one after the birth when my stomach was flat again.

Devann · 28/10/2023 11:58

I’m fair skinned and had this but not until much much later in pregnancy (from memory well into third trimester)

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 28/10/2023 12:06

I didn't have this on first pregnancy, carried to term and healthy baby.

Currently 36 weeks on DC#2 and don't have one either. I am very fair skinned, never tan, burn very easily if that makes a difference x

Underneaththestars · 28/10/2023 12:12

I never had it either! Had every other pregnancy symptom going though 😂

Cas112 · 28/10/2023 12:22

I never had it and never heard that many people having it for it to cause a worry in my own pregnancy

CyberCritical · 28/10/2023 12:25

My very healthy happy 9yo is sat next to me squishing orbees and I never had most of the pregnancy symptoms.

The symptoms list is just a list of possible things you'll experience, you won't have all, might not have any. I had no linea nigra, no morning sickness, nausea, sore boobs, growth of boobs..... honestly if I hadn't done a test I wouldn't have known I was pregnant till bump started to show around 22-23 weeks or she started noticeably kicking at about 24 weeks. My periods have always been all over the place or missing so missing a few wouldn't have made me think pregnancy.

AllWeWantToDo · 28/10/2023 12:27

4 dc and I've never had it

Blushingm · 28/10/2023 12:28

I never had one

DrMarshaFieldstone · 28/10/2023 12:37

I am very pale and didn’t have one with either of my pregnancies.

MrsMitford3 · 28/10/2023 12:42

I am also very fair-3 healthy babies and never had a hint of one

Katrinawaves · 28/10/2023 12:44

I’ve heard of it but have never seen anyone with one. And didn’t get one myself with any of my 3 successful pregnancies. Do 90% of pregnant women really get it! That sounds really high to me.

I didn’t get an outie belly button either and I think that’s way more common than a linea nigra

ohgawdnah · 28/10/2023 12:48

3 pregnancies, went overdue with all of them, never had it. Lots of women don't!

hopelessreminders · 28/10/2023 13:20

If anything like this was even remotely a concern you'd be given extra monitoring. Try not to worry.

LizardOfOz · 28/10/2023 13:22

I'm v pale skinned, no linea nigra in any pregnancy

prayforthecottransfer · 28/10/2023 13:24

I had it with my daughter and it lasted for ages after. Never had it with my son.

ManxRedRobin · 28/10/2023 13:41

Congratulations OP

I had it but only developed very late on. Can't remember exact date but well beyond 22 weeks. All the best with your pregnancy x

Werewolfnotswearwolf · 28/10/2023 13:42

Never had it either!

Blessedbethefruitz · 28/10/2023 13:48

2 babies, no line for me either. I do have hyperpigmentation on face and upper body though since my second baby - I've gone from 3 freckles to thousands, no exaggeration.

Don't let it trouble you, and good luck!

Babyboomtastic · 28/10/2023 13:59

Pregnancy is really weird.

2 babies and no lines here.
But ketchup was too spicy
I was immune those springs to hayfever
My body hair almost stopped growing
No baby blues
Boobs stayed the same size
But i did have SPD from early in the first trimester and was in a wheelchair by the end both times.

Everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy. Providing your baby is growing, scan show baby is healthy, you stay healthy etc none of the rest really matters.
