Did your waters go before or during labour?

Both my children waters broke first then contractions followed! Wondering is that's how it usually is for others or did yours go in labour?

With my first, the midwife broke my waters when it was clear things were starting to go wrong. Luckily we were both fine in the end.

With my second, my waters broke during labour, right before she was born.

Gazumper · 24/06/2023 06:39

All 3 were during. And right at the end of labour too, as I was pushing.

Daisydoo12345 · 24/06/2023 06:39

My first broke whilst I was pushing…the midwife have a visor on luckily because they sprayed everywhere 😂 The second they were broken during induction to bring on labour x

tealandteal · 24/06/2023 06:40

With my first, about 5 minutes before he was born. With my second, he was born en caul so the midwife took him out of the bag of waters!

Roselilly36 · 24/06/2023 06:41

DS1 waters broke during labour, midwife said I didn’t have much water, she was right, just like a pop then a small trickle. 10hrs labour.

DS2 waters broke, lots of water, then contractions started, quick labour.

tulipsunday · 24/06/2023 06:42

Waters broke then contractions started with child one. Child two guess we shall see when they arrive.

CornishTiger · 24/06/2023 06:44

1st right at the end. Thought I was having a long wee. Midwife has told me I wasn’t in active labour. 5 mins later whilst she was out of room discussing a c section he was born.

2nd. I think midwife broke them. I’m a bit hazy on this. It was a fantastic straight forward water birth but I remember being examined and I think they were either broken or went naturally.

3rd Early stages just as I went to wake partner up. I’d popped to the toilet before getting in shower.

Cotswoldmama · 24/06/2023 06:44

With my first it was just before the last push! With my second it was before contractions started but labour followed 30 mins later and then he was born about 2 hours later.

Eomt · 24/06/2023 06:46

The midwife broke mine for all 3 births.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 24/06/2023 06:46

I was induced and opted for the pesseries. Mines failed and then they went after a sweep whilst I was in hospital. It was like a movie, I was on the phone to my DP and felt warm water & had my show.

They then wouldn't stop and it kept gushing 🤣 DD then made her appearance 24 hours later 🫣

Apricotton · 24/06/2023 06:47

With my first my waters went hours before labour started. My waters going was the first sign that that things were starting to happen (overdue baby).

My second was also overdue. My waters broke early in labour and my baby was born a few hours after.

StMarysTrainee · 24/06/2023 06:49

Well in to labour. Each labour starting with lower back pain, that’s what my contractions are - pain in my back.

Poorlysister · 24/06/2023 06:53

With my first they went as she was coming out. My DH saw a big blue bubble coming out of me.

With my second, I’m not really sure. I was induced and it all happened really quickly so I’m guessing at a similar point.

GetUpStandUp4 · 24/06/2023 06:56

apparently it's relatively rare for waters to break first. I think there must be a genetic element though. both me and my sister had our waters break first for our 4 children between us.

prayforthecottransfer · 24/06/2023 06:59

1 - 10 hours into contractions
2 - slow trickle I think before contractions

Cupcakey · 24/06/2023 07:01

With my eldest waters first
With my youngest c-sec so unsure what might have happened. He would probably still be in there now to be fair Grin think he was a bit too comfy!

Giselletheunicorn · 24/06/2023 07:01

Mine went at the start, followed by an explosive bout of the runs! Contractions started within about 30 mins. DS born 12 hours later.

Picklewicklepickle · 24/06/2023 07:04

Near the end in a big gush, it was a relief as I felt quite a lot of pressure for hours but it massively ramped up the contractions and she was born not long after.

Second time they were broken by the MW during an induction where not much was happening, baby born less than 2 hours later. Forever grateful for her.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2023 07:22

About 1 in 10 for them to break first apparently. You must be rare to have it twice! :)

DS1 and DS3 they broke right at the end, when I was pushing. DS2 they broke first. His labour was faster.

BB2023 · 24/06/2023 07:28

My waters broke first x

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 24/06/2023 07:32

Both! Thought my waters had broken 12hrs ish before contractions started and this was confirmed at Triage. But then during labour, the MW did an exam and realised that it was only the hindwaters had broken, so she broke the forewaters and DD was born in about 3 pushes.

laptop3000 · 24/06/2023 07:34

1st baby waters broke in bed - DS was born 4 hours later at 36 week

2nd baby was in hospital to be induced at 37 week, midwife broke waters and 3 hours later DD was here

Gh12345 · 24/06/2023 07:36

Both mine had to be manually broken during labour.

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 24/06/2023 07:38

During labour while i was having my epidural.Grin

SunshineStarMama · 24/06/2023 09:28

First baby they went before labour, contractions started half hour or so later.
Second baby pretty much the same as above.
Third baby they went just before she was born, was lovely having contractions before they went, much easier and calmer labour, loads less pain.
Fourth baby they went before labour, contractions half hour or so later, again.

They went in bed at night, as soon as I relaxed lol.
