Hiccups in womb lead to reflux issues?

Amand34 · 20/06/2023 21:10

My baby constantly hiccups in the womb (I would say at least 4 episodes a day)
did anyone have this and go on to have issues with feeding / reflux? I am just curious if this is something I should be specifically prepared for / research on!
thank you x

Nope, my daughter had hiccups every evening at 6.00pm, she had no reflux issues at all :)

PickledScrump · 20/06/2023 21:15

Both my daughters had hiccups a lot but no issues with reflux when they were born.

jadey1991 · 20/06/2023 21:15

My son had reflux when he was 2 weeks old, but I can't say that hiccups were the cause of it.
Speak with your midwife if you need answers

No, both of mine hiccuped like mad in utero and as babies, neither had reflux issues ☺️

Garman · 20/06/2023 21:19

No, that’s not a thing

Mortimermay · 20/06/2023 21:19

I don't know if there is a recognised link with this but our dd had hiccups regularly and then did have silent reflux for quite a long time. Hadn't considered her hiccuping being related!

Wigeon · 20/06/2023 21:20

One DD had daily hiccups in the womb, other one didn't, neither had reflux!

Plottingspringescape · 20/06/2023 21:21

Mine hiccuped a lot and had bad reflux. Is there meant to be a link?

bluebirdsongs · 20/06/2023 21:22

No reflux but the one who didn't have hiccups in the womb did have reflux

Bleepbloopbluurp · 20/06/2023 21:23

My kids hiccuped often in the womb and did have reflux. They also both had hiccups at least daily into their teens!

PuffinsRocks · 20/06/2023 21:25

Yes DC1 hiccuped nonstop and had horrific reflux that turned out to be CMPA (which he eventually outgrew). DC2 had no hiccups and no reflux.

Bookworm333 · 20/06/2023 21:30

You've just given me flashbacks to my DD hiccuping away when I was pregnant! I had completely forgotten that. Happy to report no reflux and she was an excellent feeder, even though her hiccups kept me awake sometimes when I was pregnant.

Hokafan · 20/06/2023 21:30

Both mine had hiccups every day in the womb and have continued to have them every day outside of it! Often multiple times a day. They were both very sicky babies and had help to keep their milk down.

Handholdplease85 · 20/06/2023 21:31

I looked into this during my first two pregnancies because both of mine hiccuped like mad. There is some evidence of a link between increased hiccups and reflux, both of mine had terrible silent reflux and my second also had CMPA. However it’s an association not a direct relationship so it’s possible that yours will be fine!

DustyLee123 · 20/06/2023 21:31

No. But mine sucked his fingers from birth, so i think that caused the hiccups.

Mutabiliss · 20/06/2023 21:33

Mine rarely hiccuped but did have quite bad reflux.

Hellocatshome · 20/06/2023 21:35

DS1 was.constsnly hiccupping in the womb and didn't have reflux. I cant remember DS2 ever hiccupping in the womb and he suffered with bad reflux and still hiccups regularly now he is 13.

sleepismyhobby · 20/06/2023 21:39

My eldest ds had hiccups constantly no reflux . My youngest had none terrible reflux

TheBirdintheCave · 20/06/2023 21:41

My son hiccoughed constantly in the womb. He had bad reflux until around 10 months old. No idea if the two things are related.

SweetAndSourChick3n · 20/06/2023 21:44

DC2 had constant hiccups in utero and really bad reflux. DC1 and 3 no hiccups, no reflux. Probably a coincidence though!

Blessedbethefruitz · 20/06/2023 22:04

My first had hiccups almost constantly, like 10x a day, it would wake me up. He had severe reflux and cmpa. My second had occasional hiccups, less than 1x a day - perfect feeder, no reflux or allergies.

I've read of this link before but I'm not sure how strong it is.

TheSnailAndTheWaaaail · 20/06/2023 22:04

Both mine had lots of hiccups in the womb but only one had reflux.

Songbird54321 · 20/06/2023 22:13

My first hiccuped more than my second and she had reflux til we weaned her. She still hiccups fairly regularly at almost 6 but the reflux has been gone over 5 years now.
Only time my second was sickly was when we used infacol. She gets the hiccups when she laughs so quite a lot.
I didn't know there was a link to be honest.

NoIncomeTaxNoVAT · 20/06/2023 22:17

I also read this when pregnant. Dd had hiccups CONSTANTLY when i was pregnant and then she did have terrible reflux ☹️ No idea if the link is scientifically proven or just a lot of anecdata. It disappeared completely at 6 months old though.

sunkissedrainbow · 20/06/2023 22:44

My youngest never had hiccups but had horrendous reflux. I don't think it's related.
