Wasn't sure where to post this.

Have just seen the bloke on our local news who has set up this petition.

here

His wife was showing signs of miscarrying, went to our local A and E on a Friday night, were told to go home and come back to the early pregnancy unit on ....Tuesday Were told that there was no one there who could help them.

Sadly she did lose the baby

Thought we could boost the number of signatures.
Thanks.

Signed. I've had to visit my local EPU 4 times in the last 6 months (2 mc, plus bleeding during this pregnancy) and each time I've had to wait 5 days for an appointment. The waiting to find out if your baby is alive or not is agonising, even without the risks to your health of a possible ectopic or haemorrhage.

Signing up to ask the Prime Minister to enable extra funding for all Early pregnancy Units to facilitate them to open on weekends and / or extra funding and training for A&E Doctors to be able to recognise and formally diagnose and offer treatment when miscarrying

have signed with both mine and dh's email addresses.

am really surprised about the poor facilities as our maternity unit is open 24hrs 7days a week and a scan is always available (know this from experience)

Thanks everyone.
Now, here's a Monday challenge for you lot! I'd really like to contact the bloke who started the petition to let him know how much we all support it but i don't know how to go about it! I think I saw him on either Look north/Calender which are the local news programmes up here but can't remember which one. I've searched for his name but can't find anyway of contacting him. Any ideas???

signed i had a similar experience with my first preg (ended in MC)i was sent home by a junior doctor after being told i wasnt miscarrying and i was being paranoid i had a full MC with heavy bleeding 12 hours later and was told off by a nurse for having stayed at home for so long (i didnt want to appear to be overreacting to bleeding and also didnt want to believe i was MC in the first place) it is a section of the NHS that is sadly under resourced and not looked at as a particularly important part of medicine iyswim i hope this petition does some good towards improving the system for those who follow us.

My friend started bleeding on a Monday at 10wks pg and had to wait EIGHT days to be scanned at an EPU - by which time she had to be admitted to hospital in pain because she had in fact lost her baby. Even after being admitted it took TWO days for them to scan her to confirm the MC. Then she was sent home again and told to let nature take its course, but of course within two days she was back in hospital because of the pain and eventually they did a D&C - 11 days after she first started to bleed. What a scandal.

The story of the couple in the petition isn't so bad - they were actually seen within 48 hours and the MC confirmed but it does highlight a problem in the NHS at the moment. It seems to be a postcode lottery cos when I lost my baby I was scanned two days later and offered a d&c two days after that. It would have been a day after but the list was already full of other women who'd MC'd. I think I was well looked after, but obviously the guy with the petition got seen in a similar amount of time but wasn't happy, probably because he had to search for an EPU that was open.
