Glucose test drink - what flavour is it?

I have the test for GD this week and I am already worried about the drink… I hate fruit flavoured drinks.

Especially orange flavour which I am worried the glucose drink is going to be.

Do you get a choice of flavour? How much of the drink is there?

I actually don’t think I’ll be able to keep it down if it’s a full sized orange flavoured drink.

Hi, it's just very sweet, I couldn't say an exact flavour as such, it's like cough syrup consistency and size bottle or it was at my hospital!

WandaWonder · 28/03/2023 10:41

From an old memory so could be wrong but I thought mine was lucozade?

zaksmum1 · 28/03/2023 10:43

Pretty sure mine was an orange flavour
It's so sweet And I definitely struggled to get it down and keep it down
Sorry

HobnobsChoice · 28/03/2023 10:44

It tasted like a melted icelolly to me, generic very sweet not a specific fruit flavour. I don't think anyone actually likes it and I did struggle with it. I had to do it twice as well as my results got messed up when they forgot my second bloods.
I think it was around half a pint of the fluid. This was about 5 years ago.

biscuitcat · 28/03/2023 10:46

I think mine was orange - I found it tasted like a capri sun. It's worth mentioning that you might struggle to keep it down as I think some hospitals have alternatives.

Dyra · 28/03/2023 10:46

I've heard there are other flavours available (though I had the bog standard orange. - sorry), but I'm pretty sure they're all fruit flavoured too. Lemon, blackcurrant, strawberry etc. It's only about 200ml though. I'm sure it'll be ok to rinse your mouth out immediately afterwards if it will help you keep it down.

peachgreen · 28/03/2023 10:49

Mine was just sweet. It's pretty grim unfortunately, but you just have to go for it. I tried both downing it and sipping it (I had FOUR of the bloody tests, all of which were negative) and found rapidly sipping it was the easiest!

Jamontoast1 · 28/03/2023 10:49

Capri sun would literally be my worst nightmare!

I have a (strange and pathetic) phobia of eating fruit / drinking fruit drinks so this is going to be living hell 😅

The one I had tasted like the original lucozade, it wasn't pleasant but it wasn't fruity.

Gilm0reGirl · 28/03/2023 11:55

I’ve had it twice. The first was orange and it was like still lucozade flavour and honestly not bad, too sweet but manageable.

The second I was under a different trust and they used a drink that was raspberry flavoured and it was like drinking raspberry syrup 🤢 I barely kept it down and I was expected to drink it quickly, I had to have water between each mouthful it was vile.

Hatscats · 28/03/2023 12:06

No choice when I went - and I still wish I had turned it down! Anyway it was raspberry and tasted like a cross between cough medicine and those fruity ciders with loads of sugar added - disgusting!

Mine didn’t have any particular flavour either. It was very sweet, which I liked because I love sugar!!

GiltEdges · 28/03/2023 13:45

Mine was just sweet, but otherwise flavourless.

yentirb · 28/03/2023 13:46

Mine was lucozade sport

ChocSaltyBalls · 28/03/2023 13:46

It was lucozade when I had it

pumpkinpiee · 28/03/2023 13:55

Mine was clear and didn’t really taste of much at all, it wasn’t even that sweet! Just like thickened water. I wouldn’t have thought you could choose which flavour tbh

ChirpyChirpyCheepCheepBeep · 28/03/2023 14:00

I had to buy and take my own Lucazade!

Eatentoomanyroses · 28/03/2023 14:01

When I had this test in 2020 there as no drink involved. They said they’d stopped doing it and it was just one blood test

wibblewobbleball · 28/03/2023 14:08

Mine was flavourless, just a sugary syrup style liquid. It's over in a few mouthfuls.

Shoot4theMoon · 28/03/2023 14:11

Mine was like an orange lucuzade but I have a heart conditon so when it set off my heart conditon in my pregnancy last time I told them the next time no way I almost collapsed in the hospital my heart rate was hitting the 190s so they let me take a test kit home to keep checking my sugar 4 times a day

bellsbuss · 28/03/2023 14:11

I thought they gave you lucozade

This is what pissed me off - they were happy to do the simple blood test back in covid times, now they are happy for you to hang around a hospital for 2 hours again after struggling to drink this vile sugary crap 😫

You have a phobia of drinking fruit drinks? Surely this has got to be a joke 😂 dear lord

Nothingoriginalhere · 28/03/2023 14:20

It hasn’t been lucozade for several years as they manufacturers of lucozade changed the formula so it can’t be used anymore.

Fridaysgirl17 · 28/03/2023 14:21

Not anymore as they've changed the ingredients in lucozade it's no longer suitable
