I don’t know where I am with my period and it’s very strange this month. I have been trying to conceive I was due on period at beginning of this January so I’m a couple days ‘late’ this is my cycle so far..I’m I out for possible pregnancy?

Information below:

last period date: 4th December

pink clearblue ovulation stick result: 23rd/24th December (19/20days into cycle).

pregnancy 5 day early test result: Yeaterday and today negative so that would be 12DPO and 13DPO

i ovulated on day 19/20 of my cycle it appears so that seems later than my others could I possibly still be pregnant if pregnancy test is coming up negative?and no period yet

please don’t read and run 🙏 😘 x

If you ovulated on the 24th you would be 12dpo. If your usual luteal phase is 14 days (could be shorter or slightly longer) then your period isn’t due for another two days, or possibly due tomorrow. I would wait another day or two and then test again.

SarahHewitt · 05/01/2023 14:52

@Blue2020 when you say luteal phase could be longer or shorter what does that mean? My periods are normally on average 30 days. I’m on day 32 days so I feel like I’m a couple days or there about late x

SarahHewitt · 05/01/2023 14:57

Sorry I meant to say 33 days in my cycle *

OP posts:
SarahHewitt · 05/01/2023 15:17

And also to note my periods are regular I always have a period within the time frame (30 days) so if I’m cycle day 33 then I’m late… is that right? But because my ovulation was later about 23rd/24th December then that has put my period later?

…Can anyone else bring some insight? I’m just alone this evening my husband is away working and I don’t want to put him me feeling like this.. I’m just sat here in tears not knowing what’s going on ..I also had a early 6 week miscarriage at beginning of October so I’m probably just upset and worried and wondering what’s going on was hoping for chat on here if anyone else reads this x

So your luteal phase is the time between ovulation and menstruation, usually around 14 days hence the TWW. If you ovulated late your follicular phase would have been longer than usual (which can happen at random sometimes) and if you know you are 12dpo (from using ovulation tests or other methods) then you're still 2 days away from expected AF. It sucks but best option is to try and wait it out for 2 more days and test again on date AF is expected if it hasn't shown up yet. Sorry I couldn't really offer anything particularly practical advice wise

SarahHewitt · 05/01/2023 17:24

@JD90 aw thanks for explaining that , so because I could of ovulated late this luteal phase is always about 14 days so yes I will do if AF hasn’t shown up I will test again in 2 days…
But would a pregnancy test be showing by now? or because if I got pregnant and ovulated later that would mean implantation would be later too?
(Thanks for getting back to me) - I’m just getting use to all this and trying to know what is going on with my body I didn’t know this about the luteal phase x

So implantation can take place anywhere between 6 and 12 days after ovulation (most commonly 8-9 days), after which you start producing hcg which will then build up enough to have a positive test. (Sorry if this is all stuff you know, I'm just writing it all in order to try and help you make sense of it 🙂).
So it is possible to have a negative at 12dpo and go on to get a positive further down the line. It also depends on the sensitivity of the test you use. Higher sensitivity test, say 10 IU/L would show a positive 48 hours or more before a standard test which tend to be 25 IU/L.
If you look in the instructions in most tests they will tell you the percentage of pregnancies detected at different days usually from 4 days before expected period up to a day after expected period, and it isn't actually as many as you may expect from seeing things on here. Plus everyone makes hcg at slightly different rates so again everything is variable.

SarahHewitt · 06/01/2023 09:18

@JD90 that’s good information thank you. So this implantation can happen 6-12 days after ovulation so I if I ovulated 23rd/24th December the latest would be 5th January for an implantation? (Which was yesterday) so even taking a early 5 day pregnancy test might not show up yet?
I’m on day 33 in cycle now (normally I’m around 30 days) which is abit Unusual for me but I know from ovulation tests that I ovulated later in my cycle so I had a feeling my cycle would be late too x

im just waiting for my period or when would a pregnancy test show up? I did one yesterday on the 5th Jan and that was negative x

In all honesty I'd try and wait until tomorrow or Sunday to test. Then you are in the window of when you would expect to get your period.
Fingers crossed for you

allgoodthings84 · 06/01/2023 12:52

Yes as o ice poster says best to wait until 14dpo as then if you are pregnant you will get an obvious line

SarahHewitt · 06/01/2023 14:01

I will await Sunday to test (unless I come on a period) but is it possible that I could still be pregnant if I later ovulated and had implantation later then pregnancy still needs to be tested for or even possible?

OP posts:
SarahHewitt · 06/01/2023 14:04

@allgoodthings84 thanks. Yeah I’m 13 DPO approx (I ovulated later than usual this cycle on around 23rd / 24th December. It just feels very odd as I usually don’t go this long without a period I’m 33 days in cycle now. I did a pregnancy test yesterday which is 12 DPO and that was negative x

Eastereggsboxedupready · 06/01/2023 14:07

I didn't get a bfp until my period was 2 weeks late. Conceived a dd dtd on day 23 of my usual 28 day cycle
Dp worked away so it was definitely then!

SarahHewitt · 06/01/2023 15:58

@Eastereggsboxedupready ah thats interesting (congrats on dad) so does that mean you ovulated later and was not coming up as positive?, so you dtd 23rd of your cycle (out of of your usual 28) - so that means you implanted quite late? So you only got a pregnancy positive 14 days after that? X

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 06/01/2023 16:00

@SarahHewitt regardless when you ovulate by 14dpo you should get a clear positive on most tests but on a frer especially.

SarahHewitt · 06/01/2023 18:46

@allgoodthings84 well depending when I ovulated? I’m only going off my ovulation tests but they are not to the day of ovulation are they it’s around 12-36 hours from a positive ovulation result I think, but I got a positive on 23rd/24th December which was day 19 in my cycle, I’m now (guessing) approx DPO 12/13 with a negative early 5 day pregnancy yesterday showing- so now I’m 13/14 DPO and scared to take a test by Monday if period hasn’t come haha x

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 06/01/2023 18:56

@SarahHewitt by Monday you should definitely get an obvious line if you’re pregnant 😊. It’s 12-36 hours after first positive but most people it’s next day. You will know soon.

SarahHewitt · 08/01/2023 10:34

@allgoodthings84 thank you. I’m giving it untill another couple days I tested yesterday and it says negative which is very strange I think yesterday was around 14 DPO. I’m now about 5 days late on what my usual regular cycle is. I have had intercourse all throughout the prior month but the last time I had sex was 23rd and 24th December and that’s when i supposedly ovulated so the latest dates for conception to even be possible is 23/24th December (husband working away haven’t had chance again to DTD) im at a total loss and getting really frustrated x

OP posts:
SarahHewitt · 08/01/2023 11:12

I’m I right in thinking because my mind is going into overthinking. If it takes 12 days at the lastest for implantation then that would take me to 5th January for implantation so could that be a reason I’m not coming up with a positive test if I was testing before the 5th Jan and tested negative on 7th of Jan? I’m just curious about that in general about conception x

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 08/01/2023 11:44

@SarahHewitt if you implanted on the 5th then in theory it should show a positive on a frer by 7th as I’ve read it takes 1-2 days but there will always be the odd occasions where people will get a bfp later but rare

SarahHewitt · 08/01/2023 11:53

@allgoodthings84 this is what I have read also I read it can take 3-4 days after implantation to get a positive . I took a clearblue early pregnancy test yesterday. I could try the first response one by Monday. I’m more concerned if not pregnancy why is my period so late x

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 08/01/2023 11:58

@SarahHewitt doctors don’t worry unless you haven’t had a period for 3 months I think. Every woman can have a random anovulationery cycle where you don’t ovulate so could be longer for AF to arrive

test every couple of days but if you haven’t had a bfp on a frer by Tuesday I would take it as not pregnant. You could always ask your GP for a blood test to double check

allgoodthings84 · 08/01/2023 11:59

opks don’t confirm ovulation just the rise in LH so may still rise on an anovulationery cycle.

SarahHewitt · 08/01/2023 14:28

@allgoodthings84 yeah that’s true usually a couple cycles isn’t drs will look into it maybe it just an odd none ovulation cycle then I don’t think I’ve had one before were i have been this late on a period but apparently they can just happen? When you say frer is that the first response early pregnancy test do you know how much hcg is measured in that is it low? I would think by Tuesday yeah if I haven’t got a positive I would be looking into just not ovulated properly and that’s why my period hasn’t come x

What a total bummer .. totally in limbo x
