hi guys

quick question!
was wondering when anyones perkod started after giving birth while breastfeeding?

i know breastfeeding stops you getting your period and takes months and months for it to come back so you basically can’t get pregnant since you don’t ovulate. I have introduced around 2 bottles a day which probably won’t make much difference!

just wanted to know how long it took for ladies to get their first period after birth whilst breastfeeding? X

my postpartum bleeding (lochia) went on for 5-6 weeks but lighter and lighter each day then it stopped. after a few days i had bright red bleeding for around 4 days. not too heavy to begin with then gradually getting lighter to almost spotting! normally my periods are heavy on first two days then gradually lighter. i told my HV and she said it sounds like my period has returned even though j was just breastfeeding at the time! 😳

it’s been around 14 days after so just to make sure i got a ovulation test and it was negative. does that mean it wasn’t my period because mid cycle im not ovulating? and yes don’t worry, since HV has said that it is my period i am being careful!

It definitely didn't take very long for mine to come back. 10 weeks maximum with both pregnancies. I've breastfed dd for 2 years. I've found my periods are actually longer, closer together, and a bit painful than before. I don't know whether it will resolve anyway but I'm going back on the pill now. I swore off it because I thought it affected my moods, but im fed up of long heavy periods now.

*I am in my 40s though, so breastfeeding may be nothing to do with it.

2 bottles of formula would decrease your supply and could easily kick start your periods.
mine came back at 9 months when she started to eat more solids.

Breastfeeding only stops ovulation if exclusively breastfeeding and feeding regularly through the night.

There’s a wonderful app my midwife suggested called Birth and Beyond. It has some great videos on breastfeeding (and other topics).

My periods came back within 6 weeks. All were ebf.

Op your story is identical to mine, so 5-6 week pp bleed then a wee break (maybe around 3/4 days) then was back bleeding again for 4 days - no period cramps/pain and way lighter than what I'd expect from my normal period .... I'm now 13 weeks pp and have had no other bleeding ... no I'm not pregnant lol ... I don't consider the second bleed as a period and didn't get my period back after my oldest two kids until sometime after 6 months when I started weaning and introducing formula so was dropping bf sessions
