Anyone feel very rough in first trimester?

Hi everyone.
Thought I'd jump on here to ask if anyone has experienced unbearable nausea in first trimester? Don't get me wrong I know about feeling "yucky" in the first few weeks. I am lucky enough to be pregnant with my 4th baby. But my goodness I've NEVER felt as rough as this!! I have three other children (all boys) 2 of them toddlers and I'm having to get help looking after them. I literally am bed bound with unbearable nausea and fatigue! I am not actually being sick but feel extreme nausea all day long and all night long. It's relentless. I am in bed all day. I am very emotional and will cry at EVERYTHING and feel as though I can't remember what it's like to feel "normal"
I know people will say it will pass and to "just get on with it" but honestly I've NEVER experienced this feeling! I'm doing all the things I've been told to do like eat often, small amounts, drink water etc but like I can't even find the energy to shower!! Let alone wash my hair!! I cry at the thought of moving as I'm so dizzy! I can't stand any smells like my husband's deodorant anymore, my candles, my poor dog has been banned away from me as his smell makes me nauseous. I just cry all day and desperate to feel better!! Please tell me someone has experienced this. I am desperate to feel even half normal again!
Thank you
Xx

I experienced this. First trimester was horrendous but it did ease off and by 13/14 weeks I wasn't feeling sick anymore. My exhaustion was bad, had to nap after work every day. And I would also cry at everything. So it's not only you!

Highly recommend regular snacking (Ritz crackers saved me), all things ginger and ideally eating something like a ginger nut before you get out of bed. It's so difficult to eat when you feel sick but the nausea is worse when blood sugar dips so good to nibble on something if you can.

abbs1 · 18/02/2022 19:31

@smile18 I would definitely seek some medication. There are quite a few safe ones out there. Also check out the hyperemesis support page on here.

Derbee · 18/02/2022 21:30

In my experience, and a lot of the people on the HG support thread, the medication tends to stop the physical throwing up, but doesn’t do much for nausea. It’s absolutely awful, and I’m very sorry you’re feeling so bad. Hopefully it clears up soon.

Smile18 · 19/02/2022 20:06

I just want to know that there's a end to it. I know some people have felt rough all the way through pregnancy before. I just don't think I could cope with that. Just spending all day everyday in bed and missing my time with my other children is killing me!! Confused Thank you for the advice x

I was hospitalised for IV fluids, and took anti sickness medication. My nausea stopped pretty much overnight at 20 weeks

thewindbeneathmywings · 20/02/2022 14:38

First trimester was awful gif my this time (3rd pregnancy). We went on holiday gif a week in October half term and I hated every minute. Was nauseous, sick, constipated, no appetite, no energy, tired.

Second trimester started the same and everything gradually eased. now at 24 weeks I'm feeling much better!

HRHXO · 20/02/2022 15:32

I can't really help as this is my first pregnancy and I'm only 6+2 but I feel similarly to you. I'm a very anxious person in general and I have emetophobia so most of the time I can't tell if I really feel sick or if its anxiety because I'm expecting to feel sick. I have been off work for 4 weeks because I am starting a new job tomorrow and I am terrified to go to the office on my first day and just feel rubbish all day. I cry all the time and I feel sick and dizzy when I stand up. All on top of being nervous for my new job who don't know I'm pregnant.

Like I said I can't help but hopefully you don't feel as alone and sometimes just getting it off your chest can feel better. Having no one to talk to can make it harder. I hope it eases up for both of us soon!

Oh gosh you poor thing. I really feel for you. Good luck in your new job tomorrow I hope that it's not a strenuous task for you. Obviously you don't have to let your employer know legally however if your feeling as bad as I am maybe it would be a good idea to let HR know so that they can support you. It really is relentless isn't it. I pushed myself to get a shower and wash my hair this morning whilst heaving in the shower all the way through. Shock and then I felt so exhausted literally like I'd ran a marathon! Have you got support at home? Close friends family? Xx

I’m only 5 + 2 but the pure exhaustion has really kicked in! I’ve napped pretty much on and off all day today. Luckily my other half took my two boys off to soft play so had time to rest but with half term coming up I’m dreading the tiredness.

I’ve had waves of nausea but am still able to eat everything so far. My last night pregnancy I had nausea and sickness from 6-20 weeks so I’m dreading having that on top of this tiredness!
Also having cramps and such sore boobs which I’ve had from very early on!

Smile18 · 20/02/2022 19:25

I've just had half term with my two toddlers (and my teenager) I had to have help with childcare I was just completely unable to look after them myself. I have been in bed every day. Napping all day long. It's so hard!! A few people have said that I'm probably expecting a girl as my symptoms are so different to my previous pregnancies. I'm not sure if I believe that. Although I'd be absolutely thrilled to have a little girl!! What's everyone's thoughts on that? Xx

I had this with ny DD. From 5.5w to 8w I was a different person. Nauseated all day and all night to the point I couldn't think. Even looking outside gave me nausea.
It is horrible. But from 10w it was gone. Just the odd yucky feeling, gagging and vomiting. But nothing crazy...

annlee3817 · 20/02/2022 22:43

I had no symptoms at all in my first pregnancy with DD, other than sore boobs and tiredness. This time I have had what you describe, relentless nausea, I felt really low and as you said had forgotten what normal felt like. It started to ease off at around 11 weeks, and is so much better now, I'm having a girl this time too, very different first trimesters. Hope you start to feel better soon, I found eating Jacobs high fibre cream crackers helped as they were a little bit salty, also got some ginger boiled sweets and travel sickness wrist bands to take the edge off it a little.

Smile18 · 24/02/2022 10:49

@HRHXO how did you first week at your new job go?

Girls have to say I'm feeling very very down today. I've just cried all morning. The nausea is really taking it toll now. I am soooo fed up with life! I am 11 weeks today. I don't know what else to do. It's just unbearable! Confused xx

@Smile18
It's so horrific. Im 8.5 weeks and feeling the exact same. Every smell makes me want to hurl and I can think of a single thing to eat that won't make me gag. I tried cyclizine but it made me throw up more. It's mainly nausea for me with the occasional vomit. But it never stops.

The last time I was pregnant I felt the same sickness and was in a really dark place. If you feel like you're getting to that point call your gp.

Smile18 · 24/02/2022 14:44

@nee22
Oh my gosh it really is isn't it!! Like I say I am lucky enough for this to be baby number 4 for me and I've NEVER felt anything like this. I keep saying to myself "get a grip as it could be worse" and "come on I'm not dying" but Jezze I can not cope with the constant nausea. I feel like I'm drunk with the dizziness. I'm like you too my stomach is hungry but yet I can't find anything that doesn't make me gag!! Ive lost weight (which normally I'd be over the moon about) but I'm so low! Ive literally just laid in bed and cried all day today and had about two sips of water.
It's so lonely isn't it? Ergh Envy xx

So lonely and depressing. When I think about the hormones and the not eating well and the nausea it makes sense to feel so down but it doesn't make it easier to bear. Every day is the same ..

sandytoeswales · 24/02/2022 17:18

Yes! Absolutely shocking! All made sense when the 12 week scan showed twins.

TotoAnnihiliation · 24/02/2022 17:38

I'm glad I've found this thread. I've had constant nausea, I have no appetite and all good repulses me. I'm so very tired at the moment, and I've not had the energy to look after myself. My doctor has signed me off work which is a blessed relief as I can't function at the moment.

I've been pregnant twice before, first was a MMC and second was DD. Both times were nothing like this!

I'm living each day as it comes, I can't imagine ever feeling normal ever again!

passionfruitpizza · 24/02/2022 17:46

Yes up to about 20 weeks and then it started to ease. Was so annoying as it stopped at about 16 weeks with my first pregnancy and I was hoping for similar second time.

Smile18 · 24/02/2022 19:33

@sandytoeswales gosh really? Do you have twins in the family?

@TotoAnnihiliation
Definitely can relate to how your feeling! Have you found anything that helps you?
Because I've basically done nothing for weeks and just been laying in bed I'm not beginning to suffer with restless leg syndrome too! So frustrating. Can't get comfortable at all. Fed up of not being able to do anything because every slight movement makes me heave!

I've spent a lot of time lying in bed or on the sofa, I can't get comfortable. I eat biscuits when I feel hungry and I've drank a lot cola, which I don't normally like. It's effecting my mental health to be honest!

Smile18 · 24/02/2022 20:03

@TotoAnnihiliation yes I can understand that. Have you anyone at home to help / support you? Is this your first baby? Xx

I'm in the same boat at 12 weeks, 1st time around I remember nausea and tiredness and sensitivity to smells thats about it. This time has been Hell!!! I've had gas, trapped wind, nausea all day every day, fatigue, excess stomach acid and acid reflux. I cant tell the last time I was able to eat a meal, I can only eat a few mouthfuls at a time if I can actually stomach it with out it turning my stomach, I have craving for foods and then when I eat them my mouth tastes disgusting and I cant eat it. Im generating an obscene amount of saliva and spitting like a disgusting camel. I have no energy to do anything because im not eating so im in bed most of the time, and I've also had very little sleep in the past 4 weeks because of stomach issues, luckily I've been prescribed omezoprole which has worked miracles. I've reached my second trimester now so im waiting for the symptoms to go so I can put myself back together and start feeling and functioning like a normal human being again. I feel like such a bad parent its half term and my 9 year old has been out once! I can barely get out of bed for more that 10 mins and I know she must be bored...sorry for the rant 🥴

TotoAnnihiliation · 24/02/2022 20:17

@Smile18 this is baby 2 for me which is why the nausea is such a shock to the system. I definitely wasn't like this before. Luckily, DH is being exceptionally wonderful - doing the nursery runs, cooking and general care for DD. My house looks like a bomb has gone off here, but I can't force DH to do that too, he needs to sleep sometimes 🤣
