Accupuncture to start labour? Help

IloveGod2 · 03/01/2022 21:17

Happy new yr all ☺️. Was wondering if anyone had some stories of having accupunture which led to contractions and led to successful natural birth?
Im being induced on 17.01 and was hoping for contractions to start naturally. I did read somewhere accupunture may help. Or did anything else help?? Thanks 👍

I’ve heard it from a couple of people that it helps. I think you have to have a few sessions though

IloveGod2 · 03/01/2022 21:25

@Pinkchicken85 thank you. May give it a go, a few days before the 17th

I tried acupuncture. I started acupuncture pre conception and became a total convert and believe it helped me to fall pregnant (maybe placebo, who knows!). I continued to have it all through my pregnancy and it massively helped with some pelvic pain I had. I was convinced that it would kickstart my labour as it hadn't failed up until that point. Wrong! But my induction was all very quick so it my have helped prepare things as my body had started to go into slow labour. I'm sure it probably has worked for others and I still believe it can help so no harm in trying but also try not to worry too much about induction. I had some typical induction complications but I honestly look back now and think it wasn't that bad and you just deal with everything as it happens. I tried everything to evict my baby but she didn't want to budge until forced.

I had two sessions of acupuncture when I was overdue and keen to avoid induction. I felt really good after, relaxed and less achey. I’m not sure they actually kick started anything labour wise (though I did go into labour naturally around 3 days after the second session which was just before my planned induction, so I wasn’t induced).

IloveGod2 · 04/01/2022 05:25

@Fizzl thanks for the response. How many weeks were you when you gave birth? Also had a successful induction with my first but second time.it didn't work and had to have a c-sec. The recovery was so hard. As you said the accupunture won't hurt, so will book one for next week. 🙏

@ChewChewPanda seems it helped one way or another. Can I ask please when your having the accupunture do you lay on your back or side?

I had acupuncture treatment from 36/37 weeks (can't remember the exact time) to bring on labour. I would lay on my side during the sessions and the treatment was to encourage my cervix to slowly open.

I don't know if it was a culmination of having acupuncture whilst also having hydrotherapy sessions for my SPD but the pelvic pain eased during this time and my DS arrived a week early. No complications and his birth was much easier than my 1st.

IloveGod2 · 04/01/2022 17:54

@jennymac31 wow really good to know. Will book.a week beforehand. 🤞

I had it when I was overdue - no idea if it worked but I did go into natural labour less than 48 hours after I had the session, so who knows.

Fizzl · 04/01/2022 18:16

@IloveGod2 I was eleven days overdue when she arrived. Was due to be induced on the Monday anyway but my waters went Saturday but labour didn't start quick enough so still ended up being induced on the Sunday. Think I had acupuncture 3 times (and 3 sweeps) to try and nudge things along. Hopefully things will go a bit smoother for you this time. This was my first baby so hopefully if it's your 3rd your body might have got the memo now 🤞

Fizzl · 04/01/2022 18:17

Oh and also when I had acupuncture late in my 3rd tri so used to get me sitting on a chair with my arms leaning on the bed in front of me. Before that I used to be on my side when I went for pelvic pain

Interested to hear more about whether it helped people!

I've had two birth prep acupuncture sessions, and starting an induction session in a week when I'll be 37 weeks. I'm due to be induced at 38 weeks. She said I might need 2-3 induction sessions. I do have mine laying on my back, but as it's not too long, it's been okay - few pillows under my shoulders and head. Haven't felt dizzy anyway so far.

Hoping it does work. Like a PP I credit acupuncture for helping me get pregnant- reset my messed up cycles after a miscarriage

IloveGod2 · 06/01/2022 07:07

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 Hiya same, I did a few sessions after I miscarried to help reset hormones and body, and two or three months later fell pregnant. She did say to wait like 6 months or so lol. It's worth a try, will book next week, so will try a week before being induced 🤞

@IloveGod2 good luck! I'll come back and update whether it helps me or not. I do know after my second birth prep (cervical ripening etc) I had a couple days of period like pains and back ache but could be totally unrelated

IloveGod2 · 12/01/2022 16:10

Hi all. Had the accupunture today. Hours later tummy tightening and a bit of action down there. Have another appointment on sat. By God's grace something positive happens before I'm induced on Monday 🙏🙏

I have acupuncture booked at 35 weeks and will book another session at 37 and 39 weeks.

I’ve had acupuncture for about 18-24 months now as started after losing AF for 18 weeks after a mmc.

Hoping it will prep me a bit and set me off when the time comes.

@IloveGod2 any update?

Had my first induction session today. Had a lot of baby movement during the session, but not noticed any tightenings or anything since. Was a lot of points in my lower back, ankles, feet and the web between my thumb and finger which I haven't had before

Sarahdaydreamer1234 · 13/01/2022 21:24

I have induction accupuncture booked tomorrow. 39 weeks and really hoping it works. Looking forward to hearing how you all get on @IloveGod2 @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7. Had a sweep Monday and it did nothing. Will have another sweep Monday and another accupuncture session next Wednesday but hoping I go before the!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/01/2022 22:19

@Sarahdaydreamer1234 nothing this evening, no tightenings or anything. She did say I might need three sessions. One thing I have noticed is I did some more colostrum harvesting tonight and it was very easy, I got 4 ml in about 15 mins, which is fast for me and it seemed to be flowing easily

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2022 22:29

Reflexology is Also supposed to be quite effective. Even if it doesn't help, it's incredibly relaxing.

IloveGod2 · 13/01/2022 23:02

Hi all. Let's keep praying something will happen. @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 also had niddles in the same place and she said to pinch the little toe where the nail is. She also said I will need a few sessions. Still getting tummy tightening and some action down there. Also alot more discharge. My friend said to walk alot that it helped her. So been walking a far bit and also have another session booked on sat. 🤞

This is very much tmi but I've just had diarrhoea, for the first time in eight months (I've been constipated throughout)

Sarahdaydreamer1234 · 14/01/2022 13:56

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 hopefully that's the start of something I'd say its the accupuncture doing something! I had mine and the lady said it usually works only a handful of times it hasn't for her. She used electro pulsing and used needles in my back shoulders, feet, legs and between thumb and finger! I really hope it works!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/01/2022 22:22

@Sarahdaydreamer1234 I hope so!

Has anyone used essential oils like Clary Sage to help also? My midwife recommended a couple drops mixed in a carrier oil and massaged on my back. I've bought the clary sage but now in two minds

IloveGod2 · 17/01/2022 11:41

Hi guys, just an update from me. Took a bit of caster oil to see if that would help. Read mixed reviews so just had a bit. Currently at hospital, looking to be induced later but hopefully things will start naturally. Did the accupunture, done so many walks, caster oil. Now it's in God's hands, who knows what will happen. 🙏. Any updates from anyone
