I've been feeling morning sicknessy since Monday..waves of nausea, metalic taste in my mouth. felt awful till thursday, slept lots. hardly ate till today.. just toast till today. feel better now but still getting waves of sickness and that strange taste and salavation. I've had 2 babies before which is why it feels like morning sickness. My youngest is 1,not sure of my cycles yet, think I've had 3 periods but each only lasted 2 days (normally mine last at least 5). I'm still breastfeeding.

Could all this be hormonal swings or something other than pregnancy?

Hi. I really would go to your GP and tell her your symptoms and ask for a blood test to find out what's going on.

If you are putting off finding out cos you aren't sure about being pregnant again, the earlier you find out, the longer you have to think it through. Remember, Mumsnet will listen to you no matter what you are feeling.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/12/2007 18:19

You could of course be allergic to christmas??? Quite often makes me nauseous

Seriously Friday isn't too far away.

You could probably test Wednesday with a digital test.

spackcat · 15/12/2007 18:34

it could be other hormone problems/imbalances - my friend was definitely not pregnant but had the same symptoms as you. GP said it was hormonal(she's 26 btw), she would feel very sick at times and also had stomach cramps and constipation with it. I think she's ok now - I think the doc sorted her out with something - maybe the pill, I can't remember now, so those symptoms don't always mean pregnancy. Hope you feel better and find out what it is soon.

yellowbean · 15/12/2007 21:40

thanks ladies. I'm not putting off finding out what the problem is, just didn't want to look like a total idiot at the docs. i havent missed a period yet so i guess i have to wait for that. Not sure about hormonal imbalance.. have looked it up and nausea isnt really a symptom.. though it would make sense to me if it were. really woulnt want to go on the pill anyway as it sends me bonkers, and i'm still breastfeeding.
really fed up with feeling sick! yet strangely hungry at the same time... it really feels like pregnancy.. .!

ROFL - you sound just like me yellowbean and I'm very definitely pregnant - have seen the blobby thing on the ultrasound already!

You wait till your norks start stinging at the start of each feed

yellowbean · 15/12/2007 22:41

oh god, do they? stinging norks. lovely! honestly though it would be a bloody miracle if i were pregnant, just can't see how!!! just can't explain the nausea aay. did you know you were pegnant again before you got a bfp?

whomovedmychocolate · 16/12/2007 12:08

Yellowbean - actually I thought I wasn't. Last time the cervical mucous gave it away. However, this time, because of the breastfeeding, there wasn't any (it apparently cuts down on your ahem secretions). I thought my period was coming on and bleed a tiny bit, then it stopped, so I did a test when we came back from the pub after lunch because that always makes my period appear . It was positive. I don't know whether DH or I were more shocked. We were in the car on the driveway because DD was sleeping in the back, DH was reading the paper and I turned up after going inside for a wee clutching a stick

LOVEMYMUM · 16/12/2007 19:28

Don't worry about "looking like an idiot", you have a valid query.

My friend is a Endocrinologist (hormone dr) and she says to go to your GP to find out what's going on. A blood test would aid diagnosis of whether you are pregnant or not.

yellowbean · 16/12/2007 20:20

whoatemychocolate... do tell me about mucus... what was different? still feel sick! hope youre preg is going well apart form the sore norks! how come you've had a scan so early. did you really not believe your result?

OP posts:
yellowbean · 16/12/2007 20:22

and i promise to go to doc if my period doesnt arrive by friday...

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 16/12/2007 21:06

I had a scan because I had a bleed that first day (very light) and then brown spotting for four more days. It was apparently an implantation bleed but the magic words 'I've got a BFP and I've been bleeding' open the doors of the early pregnancy ultrasound unit faster than you can say 'is it christmas already'.

Mucous - well first time round, I knew I was ovulating because I had lots of mucous and then it just didn't stop. It was like I had a snail living in my fanjo (gross I know).

But this time, I thought I couldn't possibly have conceived because no mucous at all. My boobs weren't noticeably bigger either (still aren't).

Oh and I still don't really believe I'm pregnant btw, in spite of six tests and one scan Denial is not just a river in Egypt in my house

yellowbean · 16/12/2007 22:18

ah, well i had mucus at around the time i would have expected to ovulate, just for a couple of days. gawd knows really though... i just hate the wait

Know the feeling. I'm waiting till new year's eve to find out that the bean is still there, has a heartbeat and is okay. Ho hum. I guess all you can do is count the days and try and concentrate on other things. Hope you are up the duff, that'd be such a lovely christmassy surprise!

yellowbean · 17/12/2007 13:44

ok. i went to gp who says my dates dont add up to being pregnant. yes, i know that. but did concede i could be so i've got to take wee sample in tom morning, even though i did test this am and was negative, though still poss too early? If that is negative she will do a blood test thursday. seems pointless to do urine test! and by the time bloods come back it'll be christmas, and will probably have a period by then don't know why i bothered really!!
hope your beanie sticks whoatemychocolate, sending sticky fairy dust xxxx

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 17/12/2007 16:17

Actually your HCG level doubles every 48 hours so it can make a HUGE difference waiting a day. If you have blood taken Thursday, it should get the results ready by Friday or Monday at latest surely?

Make sure you use first morning urine and midstream too - wee a bit then stop and catch the next bit.

Thanks for the fairy dust. Still feeling sick as a dog so that's excellent I suppose

LOVEMYMUM · 17/12/2007 20:02

Glad you went to your GP.

Do you feel better now you're on the way to finding out what's going on?

yellowbean · 17/12/2007 20:44

feeling sick as a dog has always worked well for me whoatemychocolate.
i do feel better getting to gp, but wish i had all the answers now!

Patience is a virtue (feel free to remind me of that when I'm having a rant about still being pregnant at 42 weeks won't you ).

I wouldn't bloody mind but I have 4-6am sickness, a period when otherwise I'd be feeding DD (groan), I have to drag her to the loo, plonk her in the bath with her ducks (and no water) vomit, take her back to bed, feed her, repeat several times, then finally she has an enormous poo at 6am and if that doesn't start me off again it puts me off breakfast!

Sure this is the road you hope you are on?

yellowbean · 17/12/2007 21:47

sorry, i'm not really laughing! i know its not funny. i dont know whats going on with me.. have lot of cramps tonite...feels like period coming. sorry ifpersonal question... but did you notice changes in norks? you know the bluish veins that start to appear early on? did they come back or never go?

OP posts:
yellowbean · 17/12/2007 22:13

sorry whomovedmychocolate just realised i'd got yr name wrong!

OP posts:
whomovedmychocolate · 17/12/2007 22:39

Oh my norks change daily - I did notice in my first pregnancy the veins were much more pronounced but they are so battle hardened now I wouldn't notice if they turned green and sprouted flowers!

Cramps are never good -but obv. avoid ibuprofen just in case - paracetamol is good though.

Oh and don't worry, obviously a freudian slip (do you know where your chocolate is tonight?)

yellowbean · 18/12/2007 20:54

you are funny! my boobs didnt change that much second time either. was wondering if i'd notice any difference if i was preg now cos still breastfeeding...

OP posts:
LOVEMYMUM · 18/12/2007 23:00

I know its easier said than done, but just take a deep breathe and let events unfold. I know it's not nice waiting to find out what's going on but i'm glad you went to the dr and were proactive.

yellowbean · 19/12/2007 14:07

thanks. the urine test from doc was negative, as i expected. they wont do a blood test until 6 weeks from date of last period cos it won't show up if i am pregnant! which i know is total crap because of having blood tests at 4 weeks pregnant last time. talk about being fobbed off like an idiot

OP posts:
LOVEMYMUM · 19/12/2007 18:55

I don't know if it is too soon, but maybe ask about being referred to an endocrinologist (hormone specialist), if you still feel odd and don't get your period in a few weeks. Hormones can do funny things to ladies.

If you are not happy with what the GP is saying, push for endocrinology appt. It could be something, it could be nothing.
