How important is a car seat that fits on pram?

When I bought my pram they had a 50% off deal so I went for the bundle that included the car seat. However the moment I saw the car seat (silver cross simplicity plus) I could tell I'm going to hate it! I couldn't return it as it was part of a bundle and they've discontinued the pram now anyway.

Anyway basically I want to get the maxi cosi infant pebble but I don't think it will fit on the pram, how annoying will this be? I know babies shouldn't be in the car seat for long anyway and for really quick trips to the shops I can use the trolly where you can put the car seat on top?

Any advice would be great especially if you have the pebble as I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet! Thanks

First I had a car seat that could have gone on a pram but I didn’t have a pram to put it on. So I could take it out of the car into the house etc Left the baby in the seat for too long sometimes but I didn’t know much better then.

Knew about the problems with car seat positioning with my next so got a car seat that stayed in the car. Didn’t miss it, reused that one for DC3. I did buy a pram for DC3 because of the age gap after not having one for DC1 or 2 but never really got on with it and only used it as a kind of baby container/Moses basket at home. I stored baby stuff under it so it was good for that.

ChocOrange1 · 11/05/2021 21:52

We hardly used it at all. Once they're a few months old they're too heavy to lug around with one arm in the baby carrier. Both of mine hated the baby carrier car seat, I think because it laid too flat, so were only in it for about 5 months, and we stopped using it on the pram when they were about 3 months.

Can you sell the car seat you wont use? If its new and in the box then I'm sure someone would want it.

CuteOrangeElephant · 11/05/2021 21:54

I used it a lot, but where I lived when DD was a baby the parking situation was so bad sometimes I had to park quite far away.

DollyParton2 · 11/05/2021 21:55

Most buggy brands will have adapters that will fit Maxi Cosi.
For me with both my DC I found having car seat/ on buggy super useful. Both mine as babies lasted maybe a few months tops lying flat in bassinet or buggy - but we’re still too little to put in main buggy seat. Car seat/ on buggy just made life a lot easier. So easy when shopping/ running errands etc.

SinkGirl · 11/05/2021 21:55

Just sell the car seat if you won’t use it and get whichever one you want. Most travel systems have a maxi Cosi adaptor available and some other brands fit that adaptor (we have a baby jogger double buggy with maxi Cosi adaptors which fit our absolutely brilliant Joie iGem car seats - they were really fantastic and much cheaper than MC).

If you think you’re not going to be taking the car seat out to put it on a buggy then I’d think about getting something like a Joie Every Stage and then it’s the only car seat you’ll need to buy!

With our twins we used the car seats on the travel system a lot - we had a lot of hospital appointments and it was so much easier to just need the buggy frame, add the car seats etc rather than needing the buggy seats too.

I never used it once with ours. If I was just nipping in somewhere I just carried the car seat/put it in the trolley at the supermarket, that always just seemed quicker than faffing about getting the pram base out of the car. If we were going somewhere for a longer period of time then I wouldn’t want to keep her in the car seat so would transfer to the pram/pushchair.

sarahc336 · 11/05/2021 21:57

I bought the adapters that allow my maxi cosy to fit into my silver cross pram. I clip my car seat onto the pram all the time as when they're asleep from being in the car you don't want to wake them by transferring them to the pram seat x

FoxtrotSkarloey · 11/05/2021 21:59

Invaluable!

If you have to pop to a few places in the car, it saves so much time and is so much easier than taking the baby out to put into the pram bassinet or seat. Plus if they're asleep, they may well not wake up.

Double check it won't fit before you give up. Exactly which pram is it? Many use maxi cosi compatible adapters so there's a slim chance the car seat you want might fit.

miltonj · 11/05/2021 22:01

We've never used it. Car seat just stays in the car. Never once have I attached it to the pram. But it depends on your life style. Our super market is so close that we don't drive there. Other outings are longer so she goes in either the pram or the carrier. It also depends on your baby. Lots of babies are easily disturbed and would wake wether you are taking the baby out of the car seat and into the pram or if you're leaving them in and attaching to pram so it would end up not mattering!

mayblossominapril · 11/05/2021 22:01

Not at all for my first. All the time for my second. I’ve got the simplicity car seat as it fits my pushchair and it’s good. Easy to strap in, I don’t like the straps for the baby as they are a bit awkward. Other car seat I have is a cyber aton great for strapping baby in, bastard to strap in the car. It’s handy having two seats if you have two cars

MishMashMummy · 11/05/2021 22:03

I’ve pretty much never attached my car seat to the pram so I don’t think it’s essential. I always just take the whole pram / buggy and transfer my baby into that.

rhowton · 11/05/2021 22:03

I constantly, and mainly used the car seat on my pushchair. She hated the bassinet and was too small for the pushchair seat. It was so convenient when we were out and about. I always recommend it to new mums.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 11/05/2021 22:05

Get a Doona car seat. Basically a pram seat with wheels at the push of a button. Genius! I use it everyday and baby is 10 months now.

ihatemycarseat · 11/05/2021 22:12

Thanks @Fiddlersgreen I have the coast which has been discontinued I think but on the website they sell different adapters for the coast which only mention fitting the silver cross car seat. Also I think I want the pebble 360 which isn't on the list for the other adapter anyway? I don't understand why it would fit some maxi cosi seats but not others? Why do they make it so confusing!

To the pp who suggested selling the one we have I have tried to sell it, I put it up for less than half price new with tags in the box but understandably I think people would rather pay more and get it from the shop themselves. Also it's not a very nice seat so smarter people than me probably take one look and think no thanks I'll get a different one!

They do make Maxi Cosi adapters for the coast

www.silvercrossbaby.com/accessories/wave-accessories/wave-coast-car-seat-adaptors/

The pebble 360 is too new to have been tested in everything yet, Maxi Cosi themselves have only tested it on the Wave and Pioneer so far.
If you can get into a store maybe they can try out the combination for you?

DappledThings · 11/05/2021 22:19

I put the car seat on the buggy chassis once ever with two children. Barely took the car seat out of the car at all.

There was never a time when the carrycot attachment or sling wasn't a better option for me than staying in the car seat.

spacegirl86 · 11/05/2021 22:25

We used it all the time. Silvercross pioneer and maxicosi pebble plus I think. The adapters were pretty cheap and easy to use. I miss those days! Even for things like baby groups where I had to park a few hundred metres away and then either had to lug baby and baby stuff by hand or take the pram chassis and carry cot out the car (they didn't fit in connected) and put them together and then transfer baby. Was so much easier to grab the chassis, click the seat in, off we go.

ihatemycarseat · 11/05/2021 22:28

@Fiddlersgreen thanks so much when I go on the website for the coast adapters the maxi cosi seats don't come up for some reason but I can see it on your link! So chances are if I get the pebble 360 it will probably fit?

KFleming · 11/05/2021 22:28

Never used it on the pram because DD hated it and would scream bloody murder whenever she was in the car. Which was annoying because it would have been convenient to only have to take the pram frame with me to the shop etc rather than the frame plus seat.

ihatemycarseat · 11/05/2021 22:28

Thanks everyone you've all been really helpful!

hellolittlebaby · 11/05/2021 22:38

I barely used it with our first child.

spaceghetto · 11/05/2021 22:39

I didn't with either of mine.

coffeefi · 12/05/2021 14:20

Essential; I'd say

DJS88 · 12/05/2021 14:32

You can definitely get adaptors for Silver Cross to fit a Maxi Cosi pebble onto the pram chassis.

The Simplicity is awful!
