How important is a car seat that fits on pram?

When I bought my pram they had a 50% off deal so I went for the bundle that included the car seat. However the moment I saw the car seat (silver cross simplicity plus) I could tell I'm going to hate it! I couldn't return it as it was part of a bundle and they've discontinued the pram now anyway.

Anyway basically I want to get the maxi cosi infant pebble but I don't think it will fit on the pram, how annoying will this be? I know babies shouldn't be in the car seat for long anyway and for really quick trips to the shops I can use the trolly where you can put the car seat on top?

Any advice would be great especially if you have the pebble as I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet! Thanks

We absolutely never took the car seat out of the car . Dd hated it with a passion. It would have been absolutely cruel to use it a second longer than necessary. Plus they are heavy. The few times I was carrying a friends child in a seat my back was angry the entire time. It’s so much easier to just hold the baby.

You need to do some reading on car seats and trolleys. It’s an absolute no-go. Creates a top heavy situation ready to tip over at any moment. Just because people do it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

I’m picking up the adaptors for my Silver Cross Pioneer and Pebble 360 tomorrow, to check them out - can let you know if they work ok.

The Simplicity is a horrible seat!

We also had a Silvercross travel system with all the carrycot/car set/ buggy elements.
DC hated carrycot but loved car seat which we got a helluva lot of use from, there's no way I could have managed without it, I'd seriously just buy yourself the adaptors and give yourself the option OP.
Hope this helps

I have the silver cross simplicity x2 for my twins - I don't see what the problem is with them??

Anyway they are invaluable when it comes to short trips in the car as the carry cot takes up loads of room in the car and actually we can't fit both carry cots, the pram, older child and DH in the car at the same time

I didn't have at all for #1 and never came across a situation where i'd need it.

Bought adapters for #2 and used them twice, never really seen the point in them tbh.

I'm not a fan of leaving them in the car seat longer than necessary and i used a sling most of the time with my second as she was so clingy so she got moved whether she was asleep or not. They soon get used to being repositioned.

Silver Cross do Maxi Cosi adapters for most of their prams anyway, so if you later find you need them you can always get them.

I'd keep the one you have even if you end up getting the Maxi Cosi. That way you'll have a spare, and it lasts longer for height than the Maxi Cosi does anyway so if you end up having a big baby and want a car seat that lasts longer the Silver Cross will bridge that gap before you want to move into a seat that is designed for toddlers.

The "car seats are dangerous on trolleys" info normally comes from the US - the trolley tray things you get in the UK are a completely different design, I've never seen a trolley tip over due to a baby seat! Our trolleys are massively heavy things, probably the American ones are more flimsy.

Having had one, I couldn't go back and not have one m. HOWEVER - I think with your lifestyle you'll be fine.

I think what I liked the most about it was that it was much more compact and easier to navigate busy shops.

Thanks so much that would be really helpful! Just out of interest what do you think of the pebble 360? I'm not sure Where I can go to have a look at one in person!

I agree with most that it’s not a necessity but nice to have especially for my lifestyle. I find them most handy on school runs etc when I’m not out of the car for long, or quick runs to the shop. After having the option for my last baby I knew I’d miss having it this time around

Ameteurmum · 13/05/2021 22:08

Feel like I’m in the minority here but I used it loads 🙈
A lot of agg to move the baby from the car seat to the pram and then back again if it’s a small trip or if they were asleep. If we were going out for a walk or a day out somewhere then yes I would put them in the carry cot. As they got older it was less arduous to keep getting them out and in but if you are going out and making a few trips it’s a lifeline to just keep them in the car seat

SmednotaSmoo · 13/05/2021 22:10

Looks like you have a plan, but I used it all the time for my first, but my second and third children rarely stayed asleep when transferring car seat to chassis, so it wasn’t really worth it.
