Just that really. Thinking of a scan next week at 16+2, what's everyone's experiences with accuracy at this stage please or would you recommend waiting until my 20 week scan instead?

I've had private ones at 16wk with 2 out of 5 pregnancies to get that far. Both we got a good clear view between the legs and the anomaly scans they predicted the same as the private ones. The 1st one was correct, 2nd still cooking.

Larryslockdownlunch · 02/04/2021 15:35

Always been accurate for me

ELBlack · 02/04/2021 15:52

Thanks both! 😃

We got ours at 16 weeks and has remained consistent through to now (26 weeks).

Ree91 · 02/04/2021 15:58

I had mine at 15 weeks, girl and was correct :)

TeddyBeans · 02/04/2021 15:59

I had a scan at 16+4 and had it confirmed at 20 weeks that he was indeed a boy so for me it was accurate

ELBlack · 02/04/2021 16:19

Thanks so much everyone! Think I'm going to do it then! 🎊

I had one at 16+4 and they said girl, girl confirmed at 20 week scan on Thursday 😁 go for it!

CaptainSpirit · 02/04/2021 16:37

Just jumping in to say that I also had a 16 week scan with my DD2, they said girl and it was then 'double checked' at the end of my anomaly scan at 20 weeks. Smile

I'm 14 weeks with baby number 3 now and I've booked a private one for when I'm 16+2 on the 18th! Can't wait!

tatasa · 02/04/2021 16:38

Had a very early scan with my second (honestly can't remember why), and I was asked then if I wanted to know the sex. I said no, but figured it was a boy as it would be too early to be so sure if it was a girl. Found out at next scan it was indeed a boy.

All my sex reveals were correct.

UrsulaBee · 02/04/2021 16:40

I had the opposite experience and was told the wrong sex.

ELBlack · 02/04/2021 16:55

Thanks everyone!!

@UrsulaBee sorry you were told the wrong sex! Did you find out at 20w or birth?

Brunts12 · 02/04/2021 19:08

We had a private scan at 16w and had really clear view Grin
Double checked at 20w anomaly scan and it was correct Smile

PrimeraVez · 02/04/2021 19:14

I was told girl at 12 weeks and then again at 16 weeks (different doctor) Am hoping it’s the same when I have another scan in a fortnight (20w) as have already bought a few ‘girl’ bits!

Newmama29 · 02/04/2021 19:16

I had a private scan at 16+2, told me I was having a boy. Baby boy is now 7 months old so accurate in my experience! Although I know it’s harder to be definite about a girl as it could be a boy just hiding some things lol

Blughbablugh · 02/04/2021 19:21

I had one at 16 weeks and was told we are having a boy. I've had my 20 week scan and told boy and a re scan as he was being awkward and they couldn't get full measurements and told boy. I'm 27 weeks now so can't confirm but I'm guessing 3 sonographers saying the same thing is pretty accurate?

Hermie12 · 02/04/2021 19:35

I think it depends on position of baby and how experienced the sonographer. We found out at 13 weeks I was having a girl as the sonographer said she could see clearly and did we want to know

Jchina · 03/04/2021 13:56

My DS2 we found out the sex by NIPT at 12w but at 16w scan (standard in the country where we lived then) they couldn’t find boy bits! We trusted the NIPT though and it was correct...but I guess it shows it can be unreliable...

littleredberries · 03/04/2021 14:04

I think at 16w you'll be fine. It's when it's 15w or under that it gets pretty dodgy.

Moominmiss · 03/04/2021 14:08

I’ve no experience yet, but I already know I’m having a boy due to opting to find out following a nipt test.

I have a private well-being and gender scan booked for next week at 16+6 and while I’m going for the well being side of things, will be interesting to see if it’s clear he’s a boy!

BertieBotts · 03/04/2021 14:10

External genetalia is visible from 14 weeks ish.

Anything after 16 weeks is very accurate - the only reason people say 20 is because that's when your second standard scan is on the NHS.

Raggeo · 03/04/2021 14:15

Ι had a scan at 16 weeks for medical reasons (everything was fine). They said that if they got a clear view and were certain then they would tell us the sex but they wouldn't tell us if they were unsure. Got a clear view and told us it was a boy, which was correct.

NameChange74567 · 03/04/2021 14:30

I had scans at 16w for all 3 of my DC and we're all correct.

UrsulaBee · 03/04/2021 15:06

@ELBlack

Thanks everyone!!

@UrsulaBee sorry you were told the wrong sex! Did you find out at 20w or birth?

I found at my 20wk scan.
Hm2020 · 03/04/2021 19:28

Was correct for me.
