So we are loving the name boys name Wilbur well actually I love Wilby so officially he would be Wilbur on birth certificate but he would always be called Wilby or Will. I wanted an alternative to William. I know a lot of people will say they just think of the pig ( a little brave one at that ) in charlottes web, but let’s not forget the first man to invent at airplane Wilbur White, and the South African Author Wilbur Smith. I also have a Daughter named Eliza.
Honest thoughts I won’t be offended xx

I immediately think of the pig in Charlotte's Web, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 13/03/2021 17:45

Same here.

InTheKitchenAtParties · 13/03/2021 17:46

Wilby sounds a bit silly sorry

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 13/03/2021 17:47

I’m sorry, I went straight to pig too! :-(

Shmerlock · 13/03/2021 17:48

I love Wilbur, what a gorgeous name! I'm a teacher and have found it hard thinking of names as I always associate them with children I've taught - not always a bad thing! I've never taught a Wilbur, it's lovely Smile

Bouncealot · 13/03/2021 17:48

Charlottes web-and you have to do the accent...

AlexaShutUp · 13/03/2021 17:49

My only other association with the name is the dad in Hairspray.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 13/03/2021 17:49

Wilbur the pig

Oink

nocoolnamesleft · 13/03/2021 17:50

He won't be called Wilby. He'll be called Willy.

Tinks1985 · 13/03/2021 17:50

Thanks everyone so far, I love it but would hate for everyone to not like it when he's at school etc x

Charlotte’s Web, or the cat in Winnie the Witch, or two real life cats I’ve known. I have also come across one child called Wilbur, but I don’t love love it for a child I’m afraid.

Ninkanink · 13/03/2021 17:52

Wilbur is fine. Wilby is, uh, a bit silly sounding.

ThanksItHasPockets · 13/03/2021 18:11

Wilbur is a good name.

I generally find that children rarely bully others over their names but called over a busy playground or classroom Wilby will sound exactly like Willy.

Jumpalicious · 13/03/2021 18:18

I thought pig. To wilby, so cute for a baby. Now...Picture your baby as a 15 yo going on a date and trying to be cool. Wilby. Don’t do it.

Newmum110 · 13/03/2021 18:25

I actually think it is a lovely name but kids seem to pick on everything so if you are worried about that point of view I dont think I would be picking the name.

Lisakathryn · 13/03/2021 19:48

I love it. And if you love it, dont give anyone else's opinion a second thought! The name just becomes the child and people don't bat an eyelid about names when they're talking to an actual human. If someone else doesn't like the name of your child, that's on them. Not you ❤

boymum9 · 13/03/2021 19:50

I love Wilbur but not wilby, sorry!

My artist friend has a character called Wilbur in her work.

raspberryshake · 13/03/2021 20:15

My son is a William. He's Wilbur or Wilbo or Wilburbeastie as a nickname. He says go for it. (And he's aware of and likes Charlotte's Web, remember Wilbur was Terrific)

Cattenberg · 13/03/2021 20:17

I know a baby called Wilbur. I like the name and it reminded me of the Wright brothers a while before I remembered Charlotte’s Web. Maybe the name is coming back into fashion?

Name128535689953 · 13/03/2021 20:20

I know two - Wilbur and Wilber. Both nicknamed Wilbs or Wilby for short.

PPAK2 · 13/03/2021 20:26

I love the name Wilbur and considered it for my son. Wilby is a surname and I've known Wilby to be used instead of their forename. I rather liked it tbh. Also nothing like Willy so i don't think you have to worry on that front.
