I’m suffering with horrible sickness where I’m sick about 4/5 a day and just want cheering up! Basically I bought a brand new car just before getting pregnant which I now cannot even bare to look at due to the ‘new car smell’ it has. It’s so bad that even when I open the curtains in the morning and see it I instantly throw up! Haha what are your weird triggers?

Mine is the sink being slightly dirty or seeing any leftover food from the night before!

Chanel05 · 05/03/2021 08:37

When I was pregnant with my dd I used to feel physically repulsed if I saw The Chase on tv! When I got home from work and turned it on, I had to switch over quickly. God knows why!!

I also heaved at the thought of Uncle Ben's golden vegetable rice. A couple of times in the supermarket I heaved when I saw it. Had to get a drink of water and a sit down in Asda once because of it Grin

I can’t stand the smell of the fridge.. doesn’t smell of anything in particular, just that ‘fridgey’ smell!

And the thought of white chocolate. No thank you. I usually love some Milky Bar!

Rosieposy89 · 05/03/2021 10:41

I cannot stand the smell of the fridge, it makes me gag. Also I hate the smell of my deodorant and one brand of Colgate makes me gag but another brand is fine. Also can't stand the smell of the bathroom after a shower and I'm convinced our house smells bad! It's driving me potty 🤣.

Suite88 · 05/03/2021 10:43

For me it was the smell of the dishwasher.

The smell of our toilet cleaner also makes me retch now as it reminds of all the time I spent leaning over the loo whilst being sick.

PippityChippity · 05/03/2021 10:53

Love this thread! This is where I’m at currently!

The smell of the fridge, food bits in the sink, the smell of my partners morning coffee, the smell of my dog, the smell of what is normally my favourite coconut fabric softener, the smell of bread that isn’t 100% fresh, crumbs on the worktops...I could go on! The constant nausea is a huge battle at the moment. So glad to be WFH.

dotdashdashdash · 05/03/2021 10:59

Mine was fake fruit small, particularly strawberry. A woman I sat next to in work used to spray cheap body spray and it it really made me boak - I was nice to her about it, and bought her a replacement fragrance I could tolerate!

marriednotdead · 05/03/2021 11:10

Long time ago now but both pregnancies I couldn't stand prawns, first time round I couldn't even be in the same room as someone eating a prawn sandwich.
And I had no interest whatsoever in chocolate, which if you knew me you would never believe Grin

FTM91 · 05/03/2021 14:12

Ritz crackers. I bought a huge box of them to nibble on after being recommended for nausea. But couldn't stand them ...for no reason at all!

Fawn68 · 05/03/2021 14:15

@VNttc the kitchen sink I can't cope 🤢

Also anytime I open my fridge or the bin it just turns me totally!

EmbarrassingMama · 05/03/2021 14:21

Mini cheddars! Can't stand the sight of the packet, let alone the smell. If only I could persuade my toddler against them..!

PippityChippity · 05/03/2021 14:38

A new one today - Cheese. OH had cheese with his lunch and the smell wanted to make me curl in a ball and cry. I normally eat cheese by the bucketload.

samlh · 05/03/2021 16:34

Mine are tomato based foods... one sniff of a tomato pasta and I am wretching.. absolutely fine with tomato soup and fresh tomatos though?!

Also coffee, I used to love the smell of coffee and now my poor husband has given it up because it makes me sick almost instantly!

Superfoodie123 · 05/03/2021 16:38

Everything floral makes me gag right now, and creams/moisturisers smells

Coffeecake90 · 05/03/2021 17:13

Loving some of these answers, especially The Chase 🤣🤣

Fridge smell. Even right now I'm eating a yogurt and can smell the fridge smell off the container 😖

Coffee - now at 13 weeks the smell doesn't make me gag anymore but I still hate the smell.

Pizza - used to be properly obsessed, can't stand the thought of it right now.

I was given a really nice hair conditioner for Christmas and I literally couldn't use it for 5 weeks because the smell made me wretch.

Hang in there, it will get better!

Helenknowsbest · 05/03/2021 17:21

@VNttc I was the exact same with the sink. I don't even think it was dirty, suddenly this 'smell' came from nowhere and my husband couldn't smell it. I had to get him to bleach it every morning and night or I wouldn't go in the kitchen.

SuffolkGirl23 · 05/03/2021 17:38

Mine is aubergine 😂 completely random as we've never had many dishes with aubergine in anyway but we had one the other day and since then even the thought of the texture makes me gag.

Also, tea 😞 I was such a big tea drinker but haven't been able to stomach one for a few weeks now.

GummyBear91 · 05/03/2021 17:54

The smell of the fridge is god awful. I know exactly where you are coming from @Coffeecake90 and @Fawn68. Even the thought of opening it makes me heave.

The dishwasher as soon as it has any dirty plates in it.

Our living room has a relatively new sofa, sideboard and bookshelf. I have the open the windows to air the room before being able to sit in it.

I avoid the kitchen after dinner because the smell of the pots etc make me heave.

My husband has been AMAZING and taken on all dishwasher, bins, most of the cooking etc. I feel useless but know it's not forever. 10w3d today and hoping it eases in the coming weeks!

Analysethat · 05/03/2021 17:56

I’m over it now I’m 31 weeks but first trimester I couldn’t stand the smell of the oven or perfume. My poor partner had to eat takeaways for 10 weeks lol.

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 17:58

I couldn't look down a plughole Confused

Mamabearwhere · 05/03/2021 18:11

For me it’s tea! I usually cannot cope without my morning English breakfast tea and have atleast 3 cups a day. Since being pregnant from almost immediately finding out, I cannot stand the sight or the smell of tea. Even seeing the box of PG Tips in the cupboard makes me gag. I was the same with both previous pregnancies and the first thing I wanted after giving birth was a cup of tea. SO bizarre

onlyhereforthefood · 05/03/2021 19:06

The smell of my own wee. Somewhat problematic seeing as I need to go so damn often!

PurpleCurtain · 05/03/2021 19:10

It was tea for me too (actually, any hot drink!), and my deodorant.

LolaNova · 05/03/2021 19:16

My toddler watched so much Hey Duggee when I was pregnant and had hyperemesis that I now can’t hear the music without feeling nauseous, even though I’m four months pp!

Helenknowsbest · 05/03/2021 19:57

@lolanova you've actually just reminded me of laying on sofa with hyperemesis looking after my toddler and the sound of Peter Rabbit on cbeebies now reminds me of the way I was feeling. Can't have it on now ha
