Has anyone been told the wrong sex?

Just curious, has anyone been told the sex of baby at scans and then had a surprise when they arrive?!?

I’m 36 weeks with DC3, we’ve had the sneak peek test, NHS Scan and private gender scan and all have said boy so unlikely to be wrong. But DH and I BOTH had a dream last night that DS was in fact a DD! Obviously I’m happy either way, just as long as they’re healthy and it gives me an excuse for more shopping if the guesses were wrong 😂

Never been wrong with ours and we have 5 of them. Have a private scan booked at 16+4 to see what flavour this one is.

Not personally but i know of people who have been told one thing and had the other. It rarely happens but definitely does happen occasionally.

Yes, my first I was told was a girl. We bought girl clothes ect. Only to find out at my 36 week growth scan that she thinks it might actually be a boy.
I now have a 7 year old boy

Botherfreedays · 13/02/2021 13:13

Yes. Told it was a girl, so I was very surprised to hear the midwife say 'it's a boy' in the delivery room!

icelollycraving · 13/02/2021 13:15

My friend was told she was having a girl, she had a boy.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/02/2021 13:18

My friend was told for two pregnancies she was having a girl. She has two sons.

Sausagis · 13/02/2021 13:21

I know someone who was told girl but it was a boy.

I understand it's rare to get it the other way around.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/02/2021 13:27

I had a baby where they couldn't be sure of the sex at the scan. I was told that in the majority of cases they couldn't tell, it was a girl. But they never say unless they are sure. She was a girl.

(DD1 we knew girl from 12 weeks. Teaching hospital, scan was done by the professor of the Gynaecology department who wanted to explain the early indications of sex to his junior doctors)

Earlybirdmissedtheworm · 13/02/2021 13:27

Yes I was told girl and only found it she was a boy once she'd been born. I was so shocked I couldn't even hold him at first

ProfMcGonigle · 13/02/2021 13:50

Yes, we were told we were having girl/girl twins but had boy/girl

We knew before they were born though - amnio

passthemustard · 13/02/2021 14:00

I've not been told wrongly but I know of two people that have. As PPs have said they were told girls and it turned out to be a boy!

DollyParton2 · 13/02/2021 14:31

So you’ve had 2 scans and a test all saying the same sex yet you’re still wandering / (hoping?) it’s wrong?
No, it won’t be.

Cactusowl · 13/02/2021 14:41

I was told girl at 20 weeks and then at a scan at 26 weeks was told boy.

MummytoCSJH · 13/02/2021 14:42

My mum was told boys for both me and my sister!

pilotsprincess · 13/02/2021 14:46

Your definately having a boy lol

Ithinkhedidit · 13/02/2021 14:58

My 1yo I was told girl at the 20w scan. He is a boy!

Suite88 · 13/02/2021 15:41

My friend was told she was expecting a girl last year and had a boy.

Nowgimmeagin · 13/02/2021 15:50

Yep, 3 scans told a girl, found out once HE was born they aren't always correct 🤣 luckily I wasn't remotely bothered either way!

Snowymcsnowsony · 13/02/2021 15:52

I was told a girl. I had extra scans and at 32 weeks was def a girl.
At 40 weeks a well endowed ds arrived. No idea how they missed that!!

ForeverBubblegum · 13/02/2021 16:11

I've known 2 people be told girl and then it be a boy. One found out at a later scan and the other at birth. I think getting it wrong that way round is more common then been told boy and it been a girl. As you've had two scans which both said boy, I think it would be very unlikely to both be wrong.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 13/02/2021 16:33

12 week scan isn't very reliable, and sneak peak tests are easily contaminated if you live with a man. But your 20 week one is likely to be accurate, and since all 3 are the same it's probably the truth. Congratulations on your boy!

Pumpkinpied · 13/02/2021 17:02

SIL had two DDs and was desperate for a boy. Her DH and her were thrilled to be told their third child was a boy at the twenty week scan. She was so devastated when DD3 arrived she refused to even look at her and wouldn’t hold her for two days.

Trinacham · 13/02/2021 17:08

Not at birth but my sister was initially told me niece was a boy. A later scan revealed she wasn't.

Trinacham · 13/02/2021 17:08

my*

ArtfulScreamer · 13/02/2021 17:20

A former colleague several years ago was told girl at scan so named unborn child Rosie and went OTT on the pink nursery / clothes etc at birth she found herself the mother of a DS and whilst she loved her DS she found herself grieving for "Rosie" who for her had existed. She was quite poorly with PND and she blamed the sex mistake for it. What happened with her was the reason I've not found out with either of my pregnancies as it put me off.
