They said I was measuring big but didn't have a scan due to covid. Baby weighed 6lb 11.5. My bump was small so not surprised.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 07/02/2021 00:47

With my second they were worried all the way though as he was tiny they told me to expect a 4lb baby at term. He was born at 40 +2 weighing 7lb.

gretagreengrapes · 07/02/2021 03:46

There's quite a mix of too big, too small and spot on, so basically the prediction is really useless!

@kittlesticks This is what I'm worried will happen to me. Did your bump measure small as well as the growth scan?

Midwife kept telling me baby was big, I'd need a csection, baby was breach etc. Wrong, wrong and wrong! Grin

Ds was 7lb so exactly 50th percentile. I didn't need a Caesarian and he wasn't breach.

At one point I was told baby was going to be so big that I’d have to consider induction before term. Then told that she wasn’t growing at later scans. Still expected to be 8-9lb and 80+centile. Also told she had a very small head (below 5th centile) and was made to worry a lot.

She arrived just before 39 weeks, perfect at 7lb 2oz. 50th centile. She does have a petite but perfectly normal head! So much unnecessary worry as a result of scans.

MaverickDanger · 07/02/2021 04:38

At 39+5, I was told he was about 7lb 12.

He was 8lb 3 at 42 weeks, so I think pretty accurate!

Extremely accurate both times.

I was measuring a bit small for my dates with DD1, they were worried she was small or that there wasn't enough fluid. Had a couple of extra scans to check all was ok, which I didn't mind at all, best to be on the safe side. She was 8lbs exactly at 41 weeks.

With DD2 I measured spot on for my dates and she was 9lbs 2 oz at 41 weeks. Big baby, normal sized bump.

hulloall · 07/02/2021 05:26

First baby was bang on.

Second one they kept sending me for scans saying my bump was really small and not growing etc. They thought the baby was small.

She came out at 8.1 so definitely not small!

meeeeh · 07/02/2021 06:15

Was told at 40 weeks she would be 8 lb, at 39 weeks she was born 9lb 6

Dotinthecity · 07/02/2021 06:21

Way out with DD1. Was told she'd be around the 8.5llbs mark but when she arrived, one week early, she weighed just 5.5llbs and we had nothing to fit her.

kittlesticks · 07/02/2021 07:56

@gretagreengrapes they said bump was small and that was what triggered stuff like growth scans. I'm very tall so I did think having a small baby would be strange. I can't fault the care we received and although induction was not ideal.
If baby is predicted small I would bring 5 newborn sized vests and sleepsuits and you can muddle through in the hospital. I wouldn't buy tiny baby size, but in terms of brands I think the more expensive brands do come up smaller.

orangejuicer · 07/02/2021 07:58

Mine was slightly under if anything. Expected 9lb, born 10lb 3.

WorriedMillie · 07/02/2021 08:12

Estimated to be 5-6lb, she was 8lb 14. I was tiny, god knows where she was hiding!

Findingapath · 07/02/2021 08:16

I had a scan the day before my boy was born at 38+2 and it was spot on.

Starlive23 · 07/02/2021 08:34

Very accurate, scan said 10lbs and she was 9'11
